Review of
Eyes of the Jackal
by Joni Latham

Arianna is a Majerian, a member of a magically gifted race. She was an orphan, raised by her grandfather in the human world. At his death she nherited guardianship of a powerful talisman designed to protect the Majerian race from evil. She remained among the humans, using her talents as a healer and a mage to help those who wouldn't receive care otherwise.

Hundreds of years later, Arianna meets a handsome Majerian stranger and falls madly in love, not knowing his dark secret. Can she unravel the mystery and find the second guardian in time to prevent an evil Majerian from destroying her, the guardianship and the heritage she treasures?

Wow! I thought I'd take a quick peek at 'Eyes of the Jackal' before bed. The next thing I knew it was 4 am and I'd finished the book. The characters grabbed my hand and pulled me along until I'd learned their story. 'Eyes of the Jackal' is a fantasy adventure and a three hanky romance novel combined. The story is truly a fairy tale in the finest sense. The characters are very well thought out and all the pieces fit together naturally. Nothing comes off as forced or contrived.

I highly recommend this book and look forward to Joni Latham's next offering.

Centuries ago the Majerian Trayjon loaned his guardian talisman to his best friend Dante, but the latter ill-use the authoritative gadget, leading to > the death of the parents of Trayjon's betrothed. Unable to face what he's done, Trayjon fled his people without any explanation to his future wife, the preadolescent Arianna. Over the years he has observed her from a > distance as she has grown up. Trayjon's only desire in life is to hear his > soul mate forgive his transgression.

Arianna works as a guardian in Texas while also managing a medical clinic for humans. She meets fellow Majerian Don, who is actually Dante. He wants to date her, but she feels uncomfortable with him though he shows a surface charm. Arianna feels Trey hiding in the shadows and confronts her "stalker."

> Surprisingly, she feels more comfortable with this Majerian hiding in the dark than her wannabe suitor. As Trey and Arianna begin to fall in love, Don, with the help of a demon, tries to steal both their guardian talismans.

The key to the Eyes of the Jackal is that the Majerian species living undetected among humans appears authentic. This leaves readers believing that another race with "magical" powers exists. Arianna and Trey are warm, courageous lead characters, though the flaws are all on the male side.

Fantasy romance readers will find Joni Latham's efficacious tale quite enchanting.
