83-The Flesh of a God

  A God?

Rowan knew of the six main gods. He grew up worshiping them along with his family.

It was said that the six main gods were responsible for the creation of the world. Their leader, Solaris, along with Umbra, Salamander, Slyph, Terra and Udine were the six main gods of the world. There were a few other gods that acted as assistants, but there was no god like the World Tree in his memory.

Rowan pay too much attention to the religion classes so if there were other gods, it was possible the World Tree was amongst the ones he didn’t know or forgotten about.

Gods were vast and powerful beings. They lived in the divine realm. A place that was beyond human reach. Their powers were beyond human imagination, so Rowan had a hard time believing Vulcanus words. It did seem a bit far-fetched to Rowan. It was hard to believe the Mother Tree that he had grown alongside for five years was actually a god.

Although it did explain what was happening in the vision he saw earlier. Being able to spread across the world and even empower both plants and animals. It was very similar to the stories that he heard of when he was little. The ones were gods who created the world.

The World Tree did something similar, just on a smaller scale.

“You do not seem too surprised,” Vulcanus said as he examined the human teenager's expression.

“... I knew the Mother Tree was special, but I never realized how much,” Rowan said after a moment of silence.

“Yes, the World Tree is more special than you could think. It is a God and a part of its being lies in your arms. Normally that would not be possible.”

“What do you mean it's normally not possible? The Mother Tree took me and healed me. The Elves have done it before so they must have used the same ritual.”

“Yes, but elves are partially related to the World Tree. They share an affinity with each other. You, on the other hand, as a human do not. Had it been any other human, they would have been overtaken by the World Tree.

These words cause Rowan's heart to freeze, but then it begged the question. “How come I’m still alive then? What is the reason why most humans would not be able to survive?”

“ No mortal can handle the body of a god lightly. Even if the World Tree has no evil intention, its flesh would corrode the human body. Not to mention that the mana is special. Just like how the mana of the World Tree has caused forests to grow to an outrageous level, it would have a similar effect on a living organism. Tell me, what do you know about the World Tree’s mana?”

“The elves called it Life mana. It helps give…well, life.”

“Those long ears were not wrong in their naming sense. However Holy mana also share the same property in giving life. Now tell me what is the difference?”

“...” Rowan couldn't think of one. Holy mana was what the priest used in the churches. He knew holy mana was good for curing wounds and whatnot, but he didn't know anything about creating life.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“The difference between the two mana attributes is controllability. Holy attribute is far more gentle, hence the reason why it if often used in healing. Life mana on the other hand can be considered primal. It helps life and evolves them, but to an uncontrollable degree. “

  “... I don't get it.”

“Perhaps if I give an example, that would work better for you. Solaris was responsible for creating life and holy attribute mana falls under her jurisdiction. She created life and gave it intelligence to survive and the beings would take care of each other. Life attribute mana on the other hand is a whole separate manner. It helps creatures become intelligent and evolve in the best manner to survive. However the evolution process does not stop. The creature wont stop evolving until it stops the evolution on its own or kills itself unable to adapt to its own changes. Survival of the fittest would be the most apt term to describe life attribute mana.”

Vulcanus paused to allow the boy to digest the information and then continued.

“Have you not felt the changes in your body? The World Tree helped your body to adapt so it can survive the harsh circumstances of the forest. Otherwise how else would a human child be able to survive?”

It was a lot for Rowan to take in. He didn't know about the risk that came with the Mother Tree healing ritual. Not that he really had a choice back then.

“Then how am I still alive? If what you said is true, then shouldn’t I have been turned into a plant a long time ago?”

“I have three conjectures. The first conjecture is due to your blessing. The second conjecture is that your body is special in some way and was able to resist full takeover. Third is that the Mother Tree helped control the process so that you would not fully become a plant.”

“You don't know for sure?” If his body was going to be taken over. Then he would like to know right away.

“No I cannot say for certain. Even a dragon as mighty as I would not know the answer right away as this is the first time I have seen such a case as yourself. If I was there at the beginning to examine how it all started then I could tell you for certain. However I can only do so after an examination. All I can say is that the mana of the tree has been fused so thoroughly into you that it is impossible to separate from you now. Do you have an idea why you survived to this day? If you do, state the reason now so that it can save both of us time.”

Rowan opened his mouth then closed it. It seems a bit silly but he never actually learned how to use his blessing and did not think it would make much of a difference.

The dragon saw Rowan hesitated and snorted. “So you do have an idea. Say it now. Even if its some big secret, it means nothing to me. You think a weak human would be able to hide the truth from me? The truth would eventually be revealed.”

Convinced Rowan said “ I thinks its my blessing

  .”

“Plant growth? That's a rare blessing that i haven't heard of for a while. Allow me to check for a bit who the last known wielder was.” Books suddenly started flying off the shelves as if pulled by invisible hands and begin flipping themselves.

It was an amazing magical sight.

“You heard of my blessing before?” No one Rowan knew had heard of his blessing when he first discovered it..

“Yes or at least something similar. Once I find the relevant book we can take a look at what people have done with their blessing. This should help you immensely as you can learn from the examples of people who held the same or similar blessings. Here you can check some of these book yourself.” One of the books floated over to Rowan for him to read.

Rowan looked at the book. The writing on it seemed familiar but there was just one problem.

“Umm… how do you read this?”

  The dragon stared at Rowan.

  Hard.

  And then finally sighed.

“It would seem that educating you would be more difficult than I thought.”
