Chapter 3: Mysterious Door

  John reintegrated into society.

Over the centuries civilization had evolved.

  Many people discarded martial arts.

  People had developed firearms now.

  Things were becoming steampunk.

  A government had developed.

John felt like it was a completely different world.

He didn't travel to a new world... but everything had changed.

"I merely trained to the top and martial arts are already phased out?"

He talked with a few people.

Martial arts training was no longer common place.

There were gyms and body builders.

But the concept of skin refinement was just a story to everyone else.

Only monks trained in these ways.

  Not to mention blood refinement.

  Organ tempering.

  Energy drawing.

It was just a dusty legend that the elderly spoke of.

  People took it as nonsense.

A calendar was started with the foundation of the federation.

  It was currently year 132.

By now, society had begun to fully document history.

There were barely any sects left.

  John felt at a loss.

  He remained the same.

But the world continued to evolve without him.

"That's right... I need to look for a fairy fate."

The information network had also changed.

Printing press had become common place.

  There was various newspapers.

He soon realized... he couldn't read the language.

He was frankly surprised he could still understand anyone.

It had been a long time since he needed to talk to anyone.

  What was he to do?

  He had no money.

  He had no connections.

  Yet he smiled.

"This is going to be interesting."

He asked around for work and became a handyman.

  He worked for a decade.

Silver taels were no longer paid out.

Everyone else had switched to paper currency.

John didn't really have any living expenses.

During the night he would wonder the streets.

  He didn't really sleep anymore.

It wasn't that he didn't need to.

His mental energy capacity had greatly expanded.

He could fight for 30 days and 30 nights without tiring now.

Not to mention the more modern lifestyle now of just doing grunt work.

He made around 10 dollars a day.

He did spend some money every now and then.

After a decade he had saved over 20,000.

He then directly bought a 'haunted' house for 1000.

  That's right.

The strangeness had popped up in this world.

  Well rumors of it anyways.

He bought a tutor and relearned how to read and write.

He still lacked something quite important.

  An identity!

John was no longer a foreign name.

  It was actually rather common.

He wasn't born in this era after all.

  He lacked a birth certificate.

This was something that anybody born 130 years ago would have.

Unfortunately it had been centuries since this body was 'born'.

Even then, this wasn't the same body he started with.

He thought of going to a hospital and killing a baby and shifting to take its place.

But he felt that was a bit different then him possessing his current body.

He also felt it would be quite messed up to do that to the parents and basically become a parasite.

There were other ways to acquire an identity.

That would be a bit overkill.

  He did consider it though.

But the black market still existed.

He bought an identity for 5000 dollars.

  His name?

  "John Destinatus!"

As long as there was a bit of corruption. It wasn't too hard to create a file for him and slip it in with the real ones.

  His identity problem was solved.

  He then read many newspapers.

He was looking for signs of cultivators.

He had wandered the world for hundreds of years to become an energy drawing expert.

Yet, he never ran into any cultivators.

He clearly remembered Hao talking about them.

He also didn't dismiss it as just a legend.

Energy Drawing was now considered just a legend.

  Yet, here he was!

There had to be some basis for the legend.

  It had to originate somewhere.

He studied the little bit of history available.

But things simply didn't date back to when he had roamed the world.

His time was considered the dark era.

Lots of the history was loss to the grinding of time.

He created a lab and begun to experiment on himself.

initially his energy could only extend out about a meter.

  But overtime the range increased.

  To three meters!

He then had an excellent idea.

  He would find a wife.

Through his manipulation of his ability.

He would make the fetus have part of his awareness just like when he controlled multiple bodies.

  Have it grow up naturally.

He would be his own parent.

That way, he would be a parasite to himself.

He interviewed for an office job.

A simple job of handling paperwork.

Ironically, he ended up being in charge of organizing birth certificates and verifying them.

He did end up eventually getting a wife.

He was curious if his control could reach such a level.

  But it was successful.

It was just like controlling another body.

  He named his son.

  "Puppa."

  This was short for puppet.

Since this was just a puppet to him.

'Puppa Destinatus' grew up in a 'loving' family.

Unfortunately John was quite cold to his wife.

He just was used to being alone.

So their emotional needs weren't really taken care of.

This never affected the child though.

  As the child was him.

The reason John went through this was to establish a loop and a proper background.

If anyone dug into his background as it is, they would find flaws.

But what if they dug into the background of his sons son?

What if he became a great grandfather?

  His origin may be suspicious.

But his childrens children seem more plausible.

He could also allow this body to age and die and continue like a phoenix getting reborn.

Since he could control his body.

It didn't take much effort at all to regain his martial arts.

  This was the perfect plan!

He spent almost about half a century with his wife.

The day she died he did feel genuine sadness.

He realized he may be less inhuman then he thought.

  "This is a necessary outcome..."

  He told himself.

But he felt a little heartache.

As he sat on his death bed.

  Surrounded by friends and family.

  He looked at his son.

  "I leave everything to you."

  "Yes father!"

John closed his eyes and allowed his awareness to fully go into his other ontology.

  His friends mourned.

His grandson was named after him.

  "John Destinatus."

He cried at his grandfathers death.

This was all acting for John.

  He was laughing secretly.

He had a strange urge to kick his dead corpse.

But he didn't want others to think he had some sort of mental illness.

Time passed as he 'grew up' slowly.

John watched in amazement as the first television was invented.

  There weren't many channels.

"It's only a matter of time until I catch up with my last world."

The most annoying thing he had to endure was going through the school system.

Just like him, it remained quite the same.

It was very repetitive and dealing with children was annoying.

But he had to keep up the act.

On his way back from school, something supernatural happened.

A door appeared in the middle of the street.

  It was covered in chains.

But people walked past it as if it didn't exist.

He pretended to not see it as well.

But came back later using his fathers body.

The chains came undone and wrapped around his father.

The door bent and had teeth.

It opened up its mouth and ate Puppa.

Even with his martial arts, he was crushed into paste.

  He was immortal though!

He could still feel that same familiar connection.

  John couldn't believe it.

  "Is that another world?"

Puppa reformed from the crushed paste and looked around.

  He was in a desert.

John immediately went to the location with the door.

He saw blood everywhere as the door had come alive.

  People could now see it.

  It was eating everyone.

John ran at extreme speeds and managed to get away.

It led to a new world.

But he had already invaded that world.

No point in letting him get trapped.

Eventually the police force surrounded the door and shot it with bullets.

  But they bounced off.

The chains then rewrapped around it.

  And it vanished.

There was a memorial made later for everyone that had died to this supernatural event.

John went with his mom to pay respects to his 'dead' dad.

But secretly he paid attention to the other world.

  His mom was quite depressed.

"Why would he go there? What was he thinking! It's always like this, he acts like he's immortal."

  John began to laugh.

  "What are you laughing at?!"

  "Sorry..."

'Puppa' began to explore the desert.
