Alright. This memory infusion today is gonna be slightly special! Why? Because today I decided to do something different that I normally don't do and haven't really done much in recent years. What is it?

  Playing games!

But this game I'm going to describe is pretty special and I think you guys might like it. It is essentially a MUD. The game is called 'Procedural Realms'.

It is a text based game. But the complexity and amount of things to do is quite crazy. Now seems to be a good time to start playing this game as there was a wipe recently. So I started as a level 1 today. I am now at level 12. I spent like a solid six hours playing today.

This is a multiplayer game. So if you check it out. There is a chance of us running into each other! It is also turn based and you can party with others and do dungeons/quest together.

First off. Although it is text based. Don't dismiss it right off the bat. There is a map akin to old caves of qud/dwarf fortress. I believe you can use your MUD software to play this game. But I just play it from the browser. They have designed a pretty sick interface that is extremely easy to use.

The map is basically ASCII characters. It is very easy to tell what is going on once you get used to it.

They also have a database of skills/spells. The game isn't very intuitive at first. You need to get used to navigating and interacting with things.

I'll describe what I did today.

I started as a freelancer level 1 character as everyone does. Killed a rat. Followed the tutorial for like an hour before remembering the mechanics.

Learned how to cook food, construct things and craft items. There is a limited path you can choose in this game. There is a way to respec your attributes if you wish. But if you do that. You forget all the spells and skills you have learned. So be careful with that. Although that function is crucial when getting your mercenary companion.

Here are some tips for new players.

Around level 9. You will get some free book coupons for buying skills/spells. These are HUGE and super useful. Why? Because each merchant only has a specific amount of spells and skills. So if they aren't selling what you want. You'll have to find it elsewhere.

But if you do 'redeem '. at any NPC that sells combat books. You can get any skill in the game as long as your attributes allow for you to learn the skill (if you have the coupon!).

  I'll give some examples.

You start as a Freelancer. Then depending on how you spec your character and spend your attribute points. You can choose a class. Although, this isn't required. But classes have special bonuses.

You have Barbarian. This requires your character to have 10 strength. Always gains 2 rage when attacked. Bloodlust awards 3 rage when an enemy is killed. You can wield two handed weapons as if they were one handed.

You have Knight. This requires 10 strength. There is a 50% chance to intercept killing blows against party members. Can wield two-handed weapons while using a shield. All threat applied by attacking or using skills is doubled.

You have Rogue. This looks like it sucks. Requires 10 agility. Gains a free rank in dual wield. Can learn dual wield up to rank 4 (normally rank 3 is the limit). But a permanent -3 bonus to attack rate (yikes!).

You have Swashbuckler. This requires 10 agility. 20% of your agility is added to your physical damage. Each combo point gives an additional +0.15% criticial chance. Starts each battle with 3 combo points.

You have Wizard. This requires 10 magic. 25% chance to skip the cooldown after casting a spell. Your magic casting time stat has a 3% bonus. All spells cost 3 less energy to cast.

You have Elementalist (the class I chose). This requires 10 magic. The spark, firebolt, and ice lance spells have a 25% chance to damage all opponents. Resistance bonuses to fire, ice, and electric damage by 25%.

You have the Cleric. This requires 10 spirit. All multicastable spells are cast on all party members instead of single targets (additional targets cost half the energy). +50 bonus to healing from spells and effects. +50% duration for all protective and enhancement skills and spells.

Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.

You have the Summoner. This requires 10 spirit. You can summon an additional phantasm. Gains a free rank in summoning mastery. Can train summoning mastery to rank 4. Summoned creatures don't expire!

You have Assassin (I have my mercenary as this class). This requires 5 agility and 5 magic. Physical and magic damage bonuses are combined for all attack types. +5% critical chance and +0.25% criticial damage against enemies that aren't targeting the assassin. Always detects hidden enemies and is never detected (unless they are also an assassin).

You have Monk. This requires 5 agility and 5 strength. Gains 3 combo points for every normal attack. Automatically executes bonus hand to hand attacks based on combo points built up. Can switch stances with stance command. When sitting you enter meditation and further speed up your recovery.

You have Duelist. This requires 5 agility and 5 strength. More stance command options. Starts each combat scenario with two combo and two rage. Combo is maintained after battle and decreases over time.

You have Necromancer. This requires 5 magic and 5 spirit. Can summon an additional skeleton at levels 50 and 100. Spells can be powered with health if you run out of energy. +50% duration for all negative effects you inflict. Recieves command bonus equal to their magic stat. Skeletons summoned with raise dead don't expire. You can make one of your skeletons a companion.

You have Druid. This requires 5 magic and 5 strength. Physical and magical damage bonuses are combined for all attack types. The tame skills is permanent longer expire. Aggressive monsters will not attack druids (doesn't work for humanoids). Also if you 'flee' you are successful each time (pretty good!). You can adopt two pets (these can help find resources).

You have Paladin. This requires 5 strength and 5 spirit. Just gains access to an 'aura' command (I know nothing about this class lol!).

Your skills aren't class specfic either! You have to meet the requirements based on your skill points. You have weapon skills, crafting skills, combat skills, and artisan skills.

I'll give an example of one of my combat skills.

Elemental Weaving: The elemental weaving skill is a passive skill that triggers a powerful elemental effect once you deal fire, ice, and electric damage within the same battle. Once all three damage types have been dealt, 1 random rank 1 spark, ice lance, or firebolt spell will be cast at random opponents. There is a cooldown before the next elemental weaving effect can be triggered (this is just the first version of this skill. It can be upgraded).

In order to learn this skill as an example. Your character must have a base magic level of 12! It is a passive skill that cost 30 energy when triggered and has a 20 second cooldown.

I'll list all the skills/spells for you to read right now:

powerattack, shout, pommelstrike, swordmastery, shieldblock, axemastery, angrystrikes, heroicstrike, shieldbash, polearmmastery, followthrough, burningstrike, shieldmastery, conservemomentum, charge, berserk, assault, vigor, heavyhanded, sunder, taunt, parry, twohandedmastery, tackle, disbelief, grit, cleave, deathmark, reflection, execute, shadowstrike, slyslice, eviscerate, daggermastery, sneak, handtohandmastery, criticalstrikes, gouge, stunner, backstab, vanish, leathermastery, fastrecovery, dirtthrow, lethalsequence, daggerthrow, dualwield, dodge, kidneyshot, precisionstrikes, dualstrike, flurry, dualweaponmastery, evasion, celerity, slap, sliceanddice, shank, counterattack, mutilate, spark, wandmastery, piercingray, volatility, firebolt, magearmor, concentration, icelance, elementalweaving, flameshield, manaburn, mirrorimage, arcaneblast, counterspell, lightningbolt, multicast, arcanemissiles, blink, frostnova, criticalcasting, charm, fireball, orbmastery, poisonbolt, stoneskin, freezingorb, invisibility, holdperson, acidblast, dispel, lightningstorm, polymorph, meteorshower, jump, refresh, macemastery, shieldoffaith, armorfade, crush, harm, blessing, summonphantasm, aid, reprieve, cure, slumber, summonwisp, empoweredstrikes, soulalignment, lastrites, summonprimordial, purify, slow, summoningmastery, summonguardian, float, confusion, haste, flamestrike, essence, breach, redeemsoul, summonelemental, bladebarrier, arcanebarrier, healingwave, deathward, teleport, elementalstrikes, exploitation, darkstrike, fanofknives, envenom, distraction, catsgrace, kinetictripwire, garrote, misdirection, mindpierce, assassinate, soulpunch, karmacascade, serpentstrike, harmonicpattern, diamondsoul, spinkick, alignchakras, chipunch, quietmind, sidestep, explodingpalm, transcendence, divineprotection, cry, conviction, commandingshout, blindingaura, banishingstrike, holymight, slam, retribution, hammerofjustice, consecration, silence, thornskin, arcanestrike, loyalcompanion, primalstrike, tame, swipe, renew, natureswrath, insectswarm, earthquake, entangle, starburst, curse, raisedead, deathrattle, boneshards, drainlife, skeletalmastery, poisoncloud, soulshield, explosion, summonbonegolem, bloodoath, orb, feint, breathcontrol, armormastery, secondstrike, momentum, lunge, disarm, visceralblow, riposte, flourish, secondwind, coupdegrace... there are probably more.   Each one of these skills/spells is fully fleshed out and has requirements on the user to both use and learn.

I'll give some more tips so you aren't confused.

If you want to pick up something off the ground. You do 'take '. If you want to look at your surroundings you do 'look'. If you want to drop an item. You do 'drop '.

If you want a specific thing like potions from a pile. You can do 'take all potion'. Or 'take 10x minor healing potion' depending on how specific you want to be.

If you are to interact with NPCs. The merchants you can do 'list' to see everything they sell. If you want to only see things that'll work for your current build. You do 'list usable'. If you want to buy something, you'd do 'buy '. There is equipment crafting, enchanting for you to learn as well.

If you need to mine something you can do 'mine '. The web UI has battle icons and list of history easily accessible. This is the sort of game you can play blind (literally. I've played in a party with someone that lacked vision before. They played pretty good).

You don't need to download any software to play this game. You can play it right from your browser. I'll post some pictures of my character build and the build of my mercenary....

Here is the stats of my mercenary:

An inventory example (I organized this by dropping all my trash. It is normally a lot more full):
