The Demonic Serpent and the Treasures Beyond Reach

From the time I was young, I began my journey across the Lost Continent. Ever since, I have spent my entire life traveling every corner of this vast land. Over time, legends of my name spread throughout the world. Back then, I was handsome, dashing, and elegant—like a prince descending from the heavens. People hailed me as the most beautiful man on the Lost Continent. Coupled with my unparalleled martial skills, wherever I went, people regarded me with awe, admiration, and intense jealousy. Even the Emperor of the Lost City personally sought to recruit me, and the city’s princess longed to throw herself into my arms. But I refused them all—because that was not what I desired. What I truly yearned for was my own freedom.

Looking at Yuan Que’s dried-up, twig-like body and a face that could hardly compare to tree bark, Ye Tianxie felt his stomach churn. He began to wonder if he should even stay and continue listening.

Yuan Que cast a glance at Ye Tianxie’s expression and sighed heavily, his wrinkled face filled with helplessness. “Kid, you wouldn’t understand how charming I was back in the day… Forget it, no point in bringing it up. Because of a promise, I chose to stay here, forever unable to leave. However, during my travels across the continent, I risked my life countless times to obtain treasures beyond imagination. I’ve always kept them with me… but as time passed, and I find myself with one foot in the grave, I no longer wish for these priceless treasures to simply fade into oblivion with me. Yet, I also refuse to give them away so easily. So, I’ve been waiting—waiting for someone capable enough to earn the Badge of the Brave… And now, you’ve appeared. At last, I can bring out these treasures.”

Treasures beyond imagination… Hearing Yuan Que’s exaggerated boasts, which even an idiot wouldn’t believe, Ye Tianxie felt only the faintest spark of curiosity.

Yuan Que retrieved an ancient yet neatly crafted box, placing it before Ye Tianxie. He then opened it slowly, his face full of reluctance and heartache. “Kid, take a good look. If you want anything, just let me know. Because you have the Badge of the Brave, I’m willing to take out these treasures, which are more precious to me than my own life, and sell them to you—all at an exclusive 0.4% discount.”

Ye Tianxie’s gaze fell on the so-called “treasures” inside the box, and the moment he saw the first item’s attributes, his entire body shuddered. He rubbed his eyes, doubting his vision.

An illusion! This has to be an illusion!

There was no way such overpowered items could exist!

But his eyes and his instincts told him this was no illusion… The previous doubt and disdain on Ye Tianxie’s face vanished completely. His gaze lingered on each item, his expression growing more and more exaggerated. His mouth hung open, unable to close for a long time.

Inside the box lay a jumble of colorful objects—bottles, beads, even some strange greenish plant roots… But every single one of them was, without a doubt, worthy of being called game-breaking.

  • Celestial Titan Fruit: Grown on the Celestial Titan Tree within the Infernal Lava Abyss in the southern Lost Continent. It takes a hundred years for a single fruit to form. The fruit contains the scorching power of molten lava, capable of igniting one’s latent potential and enhancing strength. Yuan Que managed to pick ten of these fruits. Each one, when consumed, permanently increases Strength by 10 points. Effect can stack. Price per fruit: 200,000 gold.
  • Tear of the Fairy: The first tear shed by a newborn fairy, containing the purest, most pristine magic of nature. Yuan Que obtained ten of these tears. Each drop, when consumed, permanently increases Spirit by 10 points. Effect can stack. Price per drop: 300,000 gold.
  • Water of Life: Sourced from the Life Spring atop the Holy Mountain. Yuan Que risked his life, evading the guardian beast, to obtain five drops of this sacred water. He drank one himself and has safeguarded the remaining four ever since. Each drop, when consumed, increases Max HP by 1,000 points. Effect does not stack. Price per drop: 1,000,000 gold.
  • Wind-Chasing Grass: The smallest and lightest plant in the Lost Continent’s natural world. It is no bigger than a needle and, once mature, drifts with the wind before losing its vitality, making it incredibly difficult to catch. Each tiny blade contains the essence of pure agility. Yuan Que painstakingly collected ten of these and preserved them in the Water of Life. Each blade, when consumed, permanently increases Agility by 10 points, Movement Speed by 5 points, and Jump Power by 0.1 points. Effect can stack. Price per blade: 500,000 gold.
  • Leaf of Fortune: A mystical leaf with three distinct colors. It does not grow from any specific plant but can appear randomly anywhere, on any vegetation. Legends say that whoever finds such a leaf will be blessed with good fortune. Yuan Que collected ten of these. Each leaf, when consumed, permanently increases Luck by 1 point. Effect can stack. Price per leaf: 100,000 gold.
  • Flower of Grace: A peculiar flower with seven-colored petals. It is said that eating one of its petals will grant a person an irresistible charm in their every gesture. Yuan Que has ten of these flowers. Each flower, when consumed, permanently increases Charisma by 1 point. Effect can stack. Price per flower: 100,000 gold.

Ye Tianxie suddenly felt his throat go dry.

Each of these items—tiny as they seemed—held an overwhelming power. He was nearly overwhelmed with disbelief.

These were all items that permanently increased attributes, and most of them didn’t just add a single point, but a whopping ten! The Water of Life even granted 1,000 HP per use! What’s even crazier was that, aside from the Water of Life, all the other effects could stack.

One Celestial Titan Fruit granted +10 Strength. Eating ten would give +100 Strength!

And such ridiculously broken items were appearing in a starting village?!

Then, as Ye Tianxie’s gaze shifted toward the back of the box, he spotted two relatively worn-out objects placed separately.

  • Rusty Key: A key discovered by Yuan Que within the Life Spring. When retrieving the Water of Life, he found this key along with it. It appears to be connected to a certain door in that location. Price: 10,000 gold.

A key… Ye Tianxie’s mind stirred as he looked at the final item.

It was an old dagger. The handle was barely the width of a finger, and the blade was just as short. The blade’s shape was irregularly twisted, with a triangular tip that resembled the head of a venomous snake.

Its form was eerie—like a serpent slithering forward, its coiled body forming the twisted blade, and its triangular head at the tip completing the image of a deadly poisonous viper.

  Ye Tianxie: "!!!!"

Demonic Serpent! A Level 50… Celestial Sovereign Weapon!

Even Ye Tianxie, who always remained composed and indifferent, felt his heart race. If the fact that such a weapon existed in Novice Village #60001 were to spread, it would undoubtedly trigger an earth-shattering frenzy. Countless players would go to unimaginable extremes to obtain it.

A Level 50 requirement? In the hands of an NPC? That didn’t matter. This weapon had no business appearing at this stage of the game!

What shook Ye Tianxie even more was the line: "Later, it was acquired by Yuan Que, becoming the legendary weapon that cemented his dominance across the land."

  …The hell?

Was this dried-up old man, who looked like a strong breeze could send him flying, really the "legendary expert" he claimed to be?

And now, the Demonic Serpent—a weapon capable of driving every player insane—was actually up for sale by Yuan Que. The price? 100,000,000 gold.

  One hundred million gold coins!

An astronomical sum that would make any normal person speechless. But at that price… if someone were to get their hands on a Celestial Sovereign Weapon, they could absolutely dominate the world.

The weapon’s attributes alone were enough to prove its worth. If an Assassin wielded it, they wouldn’t even need high attack power—just its terrifying poison effects would make anyone think twice before challenging them.

Permanent attribute-boosting artifacts, a mysterious key, and now, an overpowered Celestial Sovereign Weapon…

Ye Tianxie's eyes flickered with contemplation. These prices were utterly impossible for any novice player to afford. But objectively speaking, they weren’t unreasonable given the items’ value.

All this time, Yuan Que had been closely watching Ye Tianxie’s expressions. Sensing the flickering thoughts in his mind, he suddenly narrowed his eyes and asked coldly,

"Are you thinking about killing me and taking everything?"

  "Hmm… Uh! No!"

Ye Tianxie instinctively nodded, then immediately shook his head in panic, sweat dripping from his forehead.

Truth be told, he had seriously considered it. If he killed this old man and looted his entire inventory, he could instantly become unstoppable… well, at least among players.

  But then he remembered…

This old man had wielded Demonic Serpent, collected legendary artifacts, and survived obtaining them.

…Fine. As much as he hated to admit it, this geezer was probably not someone he could mess with.

  "You little brat…!"

Yuan Que’s face darkened, and his beard almost stood on end.

"I was originally planning to gift you one of each of these attribute-boosting treasures for free… but now? Forget it! Not happening! Nada!"

He let out a snort and said, "Look, because you have the Braveheart Emblem, I’m even allowing you to buy them! Now either pay up or get lost!"

  Buy?! BUY YOUR DAMN HEAD!

In a Novice Village where 100 gold coins made someone a rich man, let alone tens of thousands or millions…

And as for Demonic Serpent? Even if he sold every single player in Novice Village #60001, he still wouldn’t be able to afford it!

Taking a deep breath, Ye Tianxie forced a smile and said,

"Brother Que, look… you have all these ‘legendary treasures,’ but you’re not using them yourself. Given that you're bound to stay here forever, wouldn't it make sense to entrust them to someone who could stand against the impending calamity in the Lost Continent?"

Yuan Que squinted. "Oh? And you’re telling me… that ‘hero’ is you?"

Ye Tianxie kept a straight face. "The village chief said so."

"Pfft! Even if that old geezer said it, I don’t care! His business with me is his business. I’m staying here in this Novice Village for the rest of my life. The fate of the Lost Continent is none of my damn concern! You want my treasures? Bring me money! Not a single coin less!"

"Also, if it weren’t for that old geezer, you wouldn’t even have the chance to buy these from me!"

Ye Tianxie clenched his teeth and gave the treasure chest one last, reluctant look, committing everything inside to memory before turning around and walking out of the shop.

Only after Ye Tianxie left did Yuan Que leisurely close the box, sigh, and resume his dead-fish pose.

Outside the shop, Ye Tianxie muttered curses under his breath.

"Greedy bastard, money-grubber, tightwad, Scrooge McDuck…"

He then turned to his companion. "Guoguo, do you have a way to steal those items from that old man?"

Guoguo, who was happily munching on an apple, lifted her head, her cheeks stuffed with fruit juice. "Master… mmph, that grandpa is super strong! Even if there were a thousand of you, you still wouldn’t be able to beat him… mmph."

Ye Tianxie rubbed his forehead in frustration. Then, he suddenly asked, "How do you know he’s that strong? Have you met him before?"

Guoguo’s chewing stopped abruptly. She blinked a few times before tilting her head in confusion.

  "Eh? Why do I know that…? Why…?"

  Ye Tianxie: ‘@#¥%…’
