Military Prosecutor Jang Cheol-dae(1)

  May 21, 2014

Jang Cheol-dae, the military prosecutor, picked up the phone at his office and received a disturbing news. It was the news of his son in deel coma. Jang Cheol-dae immediately applied for an early leave of absence and ran to the hospital at the last minute. He was surprised to see his son lying as if he were asleep. He hugged his son, Jang Cheol-jin, while his face was red. Tears welled up from his normally cold eyes.

"…Who made my son like this?" Jang asked, looking back at the police in a frighteningly cold voice. The police officer led Jang to the police car with a little fear. "…Let's go, this way." Jang got into the car, overcoming the fatigue with his scary eyes. He was very tired that night from working overtime, but he forgot all of his fatigue in anger. He was sure to catch up with the person who made his son like this.

"…why are you here?" Baek was being investigated by the police at the police station when he turned his head and looked at the stranger. He had never met Mr. Jang Cheol-dae in his life."Who is this?" Jang stared at Baek with his hands in his pockets, perhaps a little frustrated with his words. Originally, he intended to raise his fist and hit him, but he changed his mind when he saw that the assailant was Baek. "..Why did you do this to my son? Is it revenge?"

Baek's pupils were shaking. 'This is Jang's father?' He turned in anxiety, looked toward the police, and then glanced at him. Jang was in no mood to joke around now. He grabbed Baek by the collar and grimaced. "What's wrong with you? If my son crossed the line, you should have called the police! Why..." Then, Jang smelled the alcohol creeping out of his mouth. He grabbed his nose. "Whoah!"

  ...

Gamamusa grimaced at the words of Jang Cheol-dae, a military judge. He shook his head. "You're going to use sarin gas? The gas masks here don't have the ability to clean that up. Are you going to kill them all?" Cheol-dae coldly threatened over the phone. "..Didn't you do it once anyway? You wouldn't think sacrificing soldiers for the sake of your cause is that bad, right?"

Gamamusa glanced around. An executive passed by in front of the room, but no soldiers were seen. "..Is it because of Baek? Don't tell me you still doubt him, right? He's not a vile man to drink alone, is he?" Gamamusa interrupted for a moment, and then went on to say, "...Is that for Kim Dae-hyun?" Jang snorted. "That's funny. Do you think I still have lingering resentment for that? Wake up. I will give my life for the cause. And even if I wanted revenge, I know Baek is innocent."

  ...

Baek was being checked at the interrogation room. When he was seated after the police inspection, there was Cheol-dae sitting in front of him. 'Gulp.' Baek swallowed. "…What happened? Why did you do that to my son?… Hyung-jin." Baek bowed down. "… I'm sorry about your son. The car accident was my fault. I mean…" When Jang suddenly hit the desk, Baek was stunned. Jang asked, "It's not the car accident that I am asking for. Why… Why did you lie that my son hit you?"

Baek quietly gulped down his saliva. "What are you talking about? I don't understand." Jang showed him his laptop and the camera footage passing through the street. "Do you remember this? Earlier in the day, the video you filmed is now in my hands." The camera that the police seized and searched was in his hands. Baek was horrified as he filmed the soldiers being hit. Baek was groaning in the camera. "...I knew you had a gang at your school. But still... I didn't expect you to be included in the gang so openly. Do you have anything to say?"

Baek chose to remain silent. Annoyed by his silence, Jang walked up to him and said to his ear, "Listen, Baek. I know you're threatened by them. I've already heard from my son what kind of person you are. He told me that you are a very nice guy who don't hurt others, neither drinks nor smokes. Even when you accused him innocent, he said you weren't to blame. I know you didn't drink alone. Even if you go to a juvenile detention center for them, nothing changes."

Jang Cheol-dae laid a sheet of paper out in front of him. There was a picture of Kim Dae-hyun, who had just been hospitalized and lying in bed, talking to Baek Hyung-jin, who came to see him. Based on his expression, Baek was being threated to cover it up. "..Nothing will change anyway. All their friends are in a vegetative state, but he'll get better in a few months and come back to harass me again." Baek Hyung-jin looked at Jang Cheol-dae. "Kim Dae-hyun told me. He told me that you received money from Dae-hyun's father, the president to put him out of he's enlisment, right?"

He looked flinchy. "… That was a long time ago. Now that my son has had such an accident, he will not go unpunished." Baek cut him off. "… By what force? You have no power." Hyung-jin looked at Jang with resentful eyes.
