'Magic eh?' Edward thought to himself, his reaction was not at all how one would expect a person who knew nothing about magic and found out for the first time would behave.
'Hmmm, so my theory was actually correct? I am stuck in a world different from my own!' He had gotten the confirmation, he was right, Marcelle would never see him again, and he'd never see her again too, the magic he had witnessed first hand was something he had only ever seen in fiction back on earth, they didn't exist, they were merely myths and fiction, for the most part that is, but even he didn't know the true mysteries that Earth, his past world had to offer.
He winced in disgust, his face turned pale, his expression was drenched with the deep frown he had on his face that rumpled the skin on his forehead, at that very moment, his heart felt heavy, his fists clenched, he felt something hot boiling in his throat, it was pure anger, he wanted to curse but he couldn't, he wanted to gnash his teeth but he had none, he wanted to shout but he couldn't, if he had, his body would have made him cry automatically, translating his shout of anger into a cry of sadness, he didn't want to worry Jennette anymore.
'so what am I supposed to do now? What is this cruel fate that I've been cursed with? Am I supposed to live like this? Live my whole life without Marcelle? ' He let out a deep sigh, one that Jennette noticed.
"Oh.. were you surprised my little angel?" Jennette said with a sweet voice that was laced with a tone of worry as she held Edward in her arms, looking down on him with her sharp, bright eyes that showed traces of concern, she felt bad, thinking she had startled and scared the young baby.
Edward focused his piercing gaze directly into her eyes, annoyed at the fact that she had stopped his flow of deep thoughts, just when he was about to think of a solution to his predicament.
But what he saw left him shocked, he felt something from her while looking at her, it was something he had only felt once in his life, as a child that grew up without the warmth of a mother, only the shrewdness of his father who only showed him little to no affection, he had only perceived this warmth when his Aunt was alive, when he stayed with her.
It was part of the things that made Edward to resolve himself to never show any hint of sorrow again, the worried look he saw in his aunt's eyes made him feel cared for and loved.
He saw that same look in Jennette's eyes, he couldn't help but feel bad, he had made her worry, although she was always focused on the research she did, she truly cared for Edward, the only one that stayed by his side for the past three months.
'haaaa, fine, I'll consider being at least a little nice to her, let me say it's just a repayment of the sweet sing she sang to me before.' Edward smiled as he muttered gibberish in baby language as he touched Jennette's face.
Jennette's eyes widened, the behavior that he displayed towards her was strange but..
'i could get used to this.' she smiled and kissed Edward's nose softly.
"Don't worry my little Angel, it was just a simple levitation spell, nothing much, you're gonna learn better things when you're older! You'll even be able to fly!" Jennette said enthusiastically as she raised Edward up, swaying him around like how a father plays superman with his child, Edward did that a lot to his son Dustin, the sudden remembrance of that cheerful memory made Edward chuckle, he giggled loudly and laughed, Jennette played with him for a good thirty minutes before dropping him softly on his baby cradle to sleep.
'I'm going to think positively from now on, my moments of moping and hatred are over, she mentioned something about flying if I learn magic. This statement of hers leaves me with questions that I can't answer on my own. Does everybody in this world know magic? Is it a common thing? It might be, judging from the fact that even a Nanny is using magic that she called "Simple levitation spell" levitating things, so I might assume that everybody on this World should be able to levitate things.' Edward started thinking, it was a state of analysis that he entered, when he entered this state of complete immersion to his thoughts, he wouldn't stop thinking untill he finds a solution to his problem, a trait that made him prosper back on earth.
'But judging from the fact that she was trying to hide this said magic. Does this mean that it's something nobody's supposed to know? Is she some kind of defect? The only one uses magic? This World might be like earth in that case and she might be the only user of magic. There's only one way to answer this question: It's to observe the world. But before I do that, I need to grow older first, I doubt anyone would let a baby walk outside to explore the world.' He thought to himself, it felt like he was talking out loud, to himself in a hollow room, this was how immersed he was in his thoughts.
'This leaves me with another question. How can I learn this magic? And how powerful is it? One thing is for sure, that in a world of magic, there will certainly be a way to go back to Earth, I mean, isn't magic supposed to defy the very laws of physics? Or does it modify the laws? Or twist it? Whatever it does, it doesn't change the fact that there might be a way to go back to my world with magic, if magic can levitate things, why can't it also cause a connection between space-time? Yes! That will be my goal, to find a way to bend space time!' Edward had completely arranged his thoughts and mapped his goals, he was ready to face whatever comes his way, in other to find a way back to Earth.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
It was quiet in the room, as it always was, but this time, Jennette couldn't focus on the book she was reading, she sat on her chair, with the two of her elbows on her wooden table, a book was opened on the table, scattered papers that she had arranged sheepishly were by the left side of the opened book, and by the right side of the opened book, was a stack of neatly arranged books, they were about six to eight stacked.
Jennette's left thumb and index finger slowly rubbed her forehead, she had just face palmed herself with a deep sigh, questioning why she was so stupid.
Her right hand was holding her pen, the one she held grudges for, she squeezed the pen in her hand tightly, almost breaking it, but only released it when she remembered that it was her only pen, although it had caused a big problem for her, she still couldn't afford to break it, mainly because a trip to the market place was too tedious for her.
'I'm such an idiot! I can't believe I used magic on a baby!' she stopped rubbing her forehead with her thumb and index finger and face palmed herself again.
'If his body absorbs my mana, His affinity might change! That's what I'm scared of! The Flameworth's take their Flame Affinity very seriously!' She was exploding inwardly, she made sure to keep her mouth shut so Edward wouldn't notice her stupid tantrum.
'The only thing I can count on and hope on is that his Flameworth genes and Affinity is dominant, I truly pray so, otherwise... I can't guarantee his survival in this household, they might kill him.' Jennette let out a deep sigh of frustration, she questioned why she was worrying about a baby whom she didn't care about anyways, she just couldn't understand herself, it wasn't like the baby was hers so she didn't understand why she felt so worried about him.
'But... I hope nothing bad happens..' Jennette thought as she continued reading her book, she stopped thinking about all the complex thoughts, she figured it was best to live whatever will happen to fate.
Later that night, Jennette had left the room to go sleep, she and her fellow maids had their quarters, they had a special building, specifically for them, with different rooms, each room was shared by four different maids, that's where she was going to, she was done with her work for the day.
She made sure Edward was fast asleep, she packed her books and papers and hid them under the big bed in the middle of the room that was meant for Edward when he grew older, he was still sleeping in the cradle for the time being.
She hid them there every night before she left the room so that she wouldn't be caught.
She walked towards the door after hiding her books, her every steps were ordered with grace, her posture was perfect, fitting of a young lady with looks such as hers, she walked like she owned the mansion, it always made Edward wonder if she was really a Nanny at all, the air that was constantly around her reminded him of the wives of the rich men that he always met in his past life.
She stood very few inches away from the door, her hands were on the door knob as she quickly turned her head to scan the entire room.
She shook her head at the disgraceful sight, it wasn't decorated at all, it was just a small room with white walls and the room was almost the same size as the room where she stayed with her roommates, showing how small it was, there weren't many furnitures, only the bed in the middle of the room, the cradle where Edward slept in, the wardrobe that didn't contain any clothes and the wooden table and chair that were few inches to the right, away from the bed.
She took one final glance at Edward who was sleeping peacefully and a warm smile crept on her lips, she didn't know why she smiled, she looked at Edward with warm eyes.
"Goodnight, my little Angel." She said slowly and in a low voice as she finally opened the door and motioned out of the room.
In the middle of the night, Edward's sleep was interrupted by a pain that flashed through his entire body.
'arrrggh!' He couldn't move his body, it was as if he was stuck, the pain felt as if his muscles were being torn apart and as if his insides was being burned with fire.
'what the hell is this?!! Arrggh!' he couldn't scream out, he couldn't move his body, he was just frozen in place, enduring the brutal pain he felt.
A felt a massive substance move from his stomach to his throat slowly, and he vomited this substance.
Immediately he vomited it, he felt relieved, like he had shat out the large dump that he had been holding for a long time.
The substance that came out of his body was a black, tar like substance, it was thick and have off a bad odour, like shit, it was in liquid form and made Edward wonder why it felt like he was vomiting a strong ball.
His body felt light after that, he felt like he could fly if he wanted to.
He looked at the side of his little bed, where he had vomited this substance, he grimaced, refusing to believe that such foul thing had come out of his body.
'Let me accept that this thing came from my body, I won't refute that, but what are these lights that I see around me? They're everywhere!' His emotions changed from surprise, to shock, to fear and then, he felt awe.
He moved his hands.
'i can finally move now eh?' he said to himself, not too long ago, his body refused to move, it felt like he became a frozen statue.
He sat up, abandoning the sweet feeling of lying down, he looked at the black tar substance again and the smell offended him.
'im sorry Jenny, you're gonna have to work hard tomorrow.'
He raised his hands up to try to touch the lights he saw, they were everywhere he turned , a brilliant hue of bright, blinding white light, he turned his head to look around, he saw the the light floating on the air, they were like the flow of air, moving with the air.
He turned to his right to look at his bed, the light that the bed emitted was a shiny yellow light that gave a bronze glow.
He turn to lowered his head to look at his self and his body, his body gave off a faint blue light.
That night, under the brilliant glow of the moonlight gracing the dark room with it's presence through the window, Edward discovered Mana for the first time!
It was indeed a beautiful sight, He was planning to find magic, but magic found him, on that night, the greatest anomaly was born.
'Hahahahaha, interesting.'
