Chapter 23 Speculations

I ran through the forest towards my home at full speed, after phasing through so many doors, my magical energy was incredibly low and my core was practically screaming it’s hunger. Soon, I laid eyes on my house and I quickly phased through the walls…which didn’t help the hunger pangs.

“Hey Chrissy, how was your ru-.” Vivian tried to ask, but I quickly pushed past her and entered the kitchen. I ripped the door off the refrigerator and took out Victor’s blood bag, savoring the the taste as it slid down my throat.

“Chrissy, seriously.” Vivian said as she looked at the fridge door lying on the ground

“Sorry. Where is everyone?” I apologized and asked

“Alaric went to work and both Camilla and Edward went on their usual travels.” Vivian said and I frowned. Even after awakened my powers I’m still confined to this town, that’s so unfair.

“So, where did you go? You obviously didn’t just go for a run if you look that hagard. You didn’t kill anyone did you?” Vivian asked with squinted eyes

“No, I went to Victor’s house. I phased through the door and went inside.” I explained

“I’m not sure whether to be impressed by your bravery or disappointed at your delinquent like behavior.” Vivian said with a thoughtful look on her face

“You were the one who suggested I did it in the first place.” I said angrily

“Sure if you say so, either way, what did you find?” She shrugged and asked, and I showed her the pictures I took.

“I think these magical plants have something to do with what he is. Maybe he is attracted to them subconsciously. It’s weird for someone who thought they were human to have so many magical plants right?” I said

“Or he is collecting them to sell or practice his powers. Or for some potion making.” She said as she scrolled through the pictures leisurely and I bit my lips

“You think he might be lying to me.” I said and disappointment leaked into my voice and Vivian seemed to notice

“Relax, even if he is lying about who he is, he has done nothing but helped you. He might have his reasons, maybe he’s running from something.” Vivian said

“So you’re saying he might be a criminal?” I said

“Trust me darling, for creatures like us, we don’t have to be criminals to be hunted by the law. And based on all these pictures, I’d say his powers have something to do with dreams.” Vivian said as she handed me back my phone

“That black rose in particular, it’s called the cursed vermilion. Named so because roses are usually red and this thing supposedly can be used to make a type of potion that can put someone in an eternal nightmare. Pretty expensive stuff, like a 3500 Aurous coins.” Vivian said, licking her lips and staring at the picture

“This thing can put someone in an eternal nightmare?” I asked, snapping her out of her stupor

“Not eternal per se, just for like a decade or so. The nightmare will feel eternal though, but it can be broken by using another potion or getting the help of a dream demon. But their aren’t many of those guys around anymore.” She said

“Why would Victor have something like this?” I asked, a little concerned, not sure if it was for him or my family. If Victor is some kind of villain, then we could be in serious danger, but….his actions so far says that he is a good person. I can’t make any assumptions just yet.

“Well, it could be like you said, he could be subconsciously attracted to plants like these that are associated with the dream authority. That rules out vampires and werewolves since there are no clans that is associated with that authority. He might be a warlock, but, witches are a pretty tight knit community and there are much less of them than other supernaturals. He would have likely been inducted into a coven by now….or killed. That leaves us with demons. House of Death, House of Dread, House of Blood, House of Sea demons, Beasts of the wild hunt, the four sisters, House of Poison, and house of dreams. These are the only demons I know. Only Dread, Dreams and the four sisters can be associated with the Dream authority. So he would have to fall under one of these three.”

“The four sisters, you think he could be a sister?” I laughed

“Maybe, the sisters dabble in all kinds of magic and they can more than likely use sorcery to appear like a hot dude.” She shrugged and I looked at her weirdly

“Then again, the four sisters do have a few kids over the millennias and they were the ones who created witches, so maybe he is a new warlock or he is one of their kids.” She said

“Okay, what about the other two?” I asked

“Dream demons are very rare since the rifts connecting to their section of Gehenna is closed, and there are only a few still on Earth. They could have procreated in that time I guess, but the chances of a demon getting a child with a supernatural is low and it’s even lower with humans. As for dread demons, I don’t know much about them and from what I know, only one was ever here and it was killed by the Blood Red Commander. None have been spotted on the planet since.” Vivian explained

“Okay, so you’re saying that it’s possible for him to be either a warlock, a child of the four sisters or a dream demon.” I summarised

  “Or a helsing.” She added

“Or a helsing.” I repeated with an annoyed sigh, as I realized I was pretty much back to square one.

“Is there anyway to test for either of these?” I asked

“Sure, but you are going to need around 30,000 Aurous coins at least to get a cheap device that can read magical imprints and even that might not work. Or you get a divination tool that tell you who he is for 500,000.” She said

  “Fuuck!!!” I screamed in frustration

“If you ask me it doesn’t matter, even if he is a demon, warlock or helsing it doesn’t matter. It’s not like we could just kill him, that would bring unwanted attention, and we don’t need that kind of heat on our back. That is if we could even kill him in the first place.” She said and I nodded my head

“How do you know all of this anyway? I thought we didn’t know much about demons?” I asked

  “I read.” Vivian said

“Oh, and where did you read about all of this? Wikipedia.” I laughed

“SeekersoftheAncientflame.com. It’s a website created by these guys called the Seekers of the Ancient Flames, they're a bunch of history nuts. The site has information on history, current events and even different species and other planets with sentient races. It costs like five Aurous coins a month for subscription.” Vivian said and I was shocked

“There are sentient species on other planets? And how are you paying the subscription fee, I thought we were flat broke?” I asked, truly shocked. I know how precious Aurous coins were and just how hard they were to earn. Five Aurous coins might not sound alot, but it is.

“I’m not paying for it, a friend is.” Vivian said

“Who, your boyfriend?” I said suggestively

“No, just an old friend, we go back hundreds of years and this amount is nothing to him.” She replied with a shrug

“So you know a rich asshole and didn’t share? Nice.” I said, genuinely impressed with her ability to seduce dumb rich guys and she smirked

“Look, if you keep this a secret, I’ll let you search some stuff on the website. I know you must be dying to know about other supernaturals and what the supernatural world is like. Deal.” She said with a smile

“Deal.” I said a little too quickly and she smiled.

  Victor POV

“Ah, another day of school finished. Oh hi Salem. How was your day?” I said as the cute little cat jumped into my lap and rubbed his chin, causing him to put happily

“My day was fine. I caught a bird and a fish. I also went into the dream cave with Hazel. It was really bright.” Salem said in his cute little voice

“Oh, it seems you had quite the day.” I said and rubbed the mischievous little cat’s stomach

“Oh yeah, that girl snuck into the house today.” Salem said, putting his little paw on his chin

“What girl?” I asked concerned, and looked around the house. I didn’t see any indication of anyone stuck in the walls or dismembered or hear any screams. Which could only mean one thing.

“The vampire girl that you brought over two days ago. What was her name? Chrissy. I thought you wouldn’t want her to die so i told the house not to kill her.” Salem said, puffing out his chest with a proud expression

‘Just as I thought.’ I said internally and sighed in relief. That could have been messy and it would have been a bit difficult to rescue her.

“Did she go into the basement? She didn’t touch the curse vermilion did she?” I asked, a bit concerned

“She didn’t go into the basement, but only the entrance. She turned back for some reason and she didn’t touch the cursed vermilion, but she did take some pictures.” Salem said

  “That’s fine.” I said

‘Things are getting too complicated. Maybe I should step up the pace of my work.’ I thought with a smile on my face, and I could feel the magical energy in my body dance with excitement.
