27: Myra

I awoke to Jonah’s warmth. We were lying down, like we usually did. I blushed deeply, remembering the vision. The moonlight with the two writhing bodies on the divan. Our two writhing bodies. I just couldn’t block the images it conjured. My hands wrapped up in that silky hair, his hands worshipping me, trailing along my stomach, and I knew, lower still. It all painted a picture I didn’t know what to do with right now, so I did with it what I did with Benny. I shut it away deep within my subconsciousness.

I glanced at his sleeping form and, for the first time, realized exactly how nice a form it was. He was very good-looking, and somewhere I knew that, but it never truly registered until now. He was lithe and fit and golden all over. I really didn’t know how he fell for me, the ugly duckling, but he does, maybe. These futures weren’t absolute, were they? For now, this was a certainty; maybe later it wouldn’t be. I ran my hand down his face, and he snuggled closer. I smiled at his antics.

“I guess it's too late for me. I already like him,” I breathed, passing a hand through his hair. He moaned, and I blushed, stopping my ministrations. That was too close to my vision’s moan.

  Maryanne: Him. It's him.

Strength: Well, don’t all guys sound like that?

Mark: Seriously, Lughead, that’s your excuse?

Lesley eyed Strength and frowned: And I was the dumb one?

Jack: Not like she can do that to any other guy, Strength.

I blushed and nodded, agreeing with Jack.

His eyes flew open, and hazy emerald and gray met mine, as his fingers intertwined with my own in his hair.

  “My?” he yawned.

  I retracted my hand. “Morning!”

“Morning, how were the visions?” he asked as he sat and ran a hand through my hair. I winced and he frowned. “Hold on, let me...” He stood and ran his thumb through his personal items rune. Immediately, a can of hairspray and a comb emerged. I scootched until my back hit a root.

“Let’s not be hasty,” I muttered.

“My, your hair is a rat’s nest. You are going to get worse and worse. Soon, you’ll have to cut it off! That’s what you want? Come on. Promise to be as gentle as possible,” he said, brandishing the comb like a sword.

I stood and followed him into his tent. It was like mine. Most of our things were kept in runes. Only a few things, like clothes and such, were laid about. A sleeping bag was in the center, where he sat, and put down the can of hairspray and the comb. I followed and shifted closer until he was flush against me. Then he sprayed my hair with the hairspray. I sneezed.

“Tell me about the visions,” he said, running the comb gently from tip to the first knot. I winced as he slowly brushed it out.

“I can’t tell you a few of them,” I said, whimpering as the comb snagged another knot.

“Sorry. Hmm, likely I was in these and even the cause of a few?” he asked, combing through the first part of my loose hair. He sprayed some more hairspray on my hair and tackled my biggest knot carefully, separating my good hair from the knotted mess.

“Someone was turned into a Morgan, and a child left the resistance in search of someone. I couldn’t find out who, though. These were my recent ones. I saw Datha’s vision, somewhat I don’t want to say what I saw. Likely you’ve seen it too, but well, now that we’ve all seen bits and pieces, I think we can avoid IT!” I cried as he combed through the worst of the knot. Tears left my eyes as he slowly but meticulously combed the knot out.

I gulped, untensing. “These were my recent ones. I also saw one about the Kin Beast and a mine, but it was more discernible than the others.”

He hmmed and separated more of my hair from the diminishing knot.

“The farther something is to you, the more indecipherable it gets. That’s how we can tell how close an event will take place,” he said, spraying what had to be the last of that hairspray at the knot, and attacking it for lack of a better word. It had just declared war on Jonah, I guessed. I winced and whimpered, crying as Jonah finally managed to release my hair from the knot. The rest were cake compared to that!

I sighed as he ran his hands through my hair, now free of knots.

“You are combing your hair every morning with me, whether you like it or not,” he muttered, wiping his forehead with his hand and repacking his comb and hairspray.

“Sorry for wasting your spray,” I muttered, feeling my depressive episode coming on. A few tears left me, and they weren't for my hair. A few more followed until I was full out weeping.

“Whoa, hey My. It’s okay. I can just use water, it's about as effective. Besides, you needed it. What’s wrong?” He asked, wrapping an arm around me and rubbing my back.

  “I don’t know! I don’t feel well,” I hiccupped and blushed.

He chuckled and kissed my forehead again. “I’m here. Don’t worry about it. Cry as much as you want. I’m here.”

I sighed and nodded, glancing at my tent, which was glowing. “What the hell?”

We stood and carefully walked to it, finding the UE scrolls alight. I touched the same one that had lesson one on it, and it unrolled itself with bright gold lettering on the bottom.

Now that you know you are your seer and doer of destiny, it is time to drink up and save your beast. Many others will also need saving; as such, use these runes on oneself when you are ready to save the beast.

The runes for elements and power were inscribed, as well as two others I had never seen before. A circle with a dot in its center, and a lotus blossom, but the outline of it. It wasn’t filled in. I turned to Jonah, who was inspecting the runes as well, and smiling.

“These are possibly your first Universal runes, Myra!”

“And yours. I’m allowed to share the info with other people, and I choose you to share it with you,” I said, taking my notebook out and copying the runes. No array just the runes. Strange–

“Whoa!” I cried as I was hoisted in the air by a laughing Jonah.

“You don’t understand how much power you are giving away, do you?” he chuckled, glancing at my eyes.

I shrugged. “Power has never been my issue. I share it freely with you. You’ve stood by me since even my first breakdown, the first time I was here. Hell, you helped me survive! Power didn’t do that–you did. I jabbed my finger in his chest.”

“I also threw you to the sharks, sparking this whole charade,” he muttered, looking down.

“Hey, Amel was going to bring me here, whether I wanted it or not. I’m glad it was with you,” I said, sliding my hand to his chin and propping his head up.

He stared at me before clearing his throat and blushing. “Come on. You’ve got a mango with smelly feet to drink.”

I rolled my eyes. “Don’t remind me. First it was blood, and now smelly feet. Bonds just aren’t my thing. The only consolation is the fact that Datha will be drinking the same soon.”

He chuckled and nodded. “Let's free that Kin Beast, before sis summons her nose where she isn’t wanted.”

Maryanne: She’ll summon herself even to your wedding day.

Strength: Let’s not jump to conclusions now!

Lesley: I’m really wondering how I was the dumb one.

Jack: In common sense, Strength beats everyone in the dumb compartment.

  Mark: Whatever!

Jack frowned and stared at Mark. He had changed the most out of all of them, and Lesley didn’t even bite him! He could feel his change starting. He hoped Myra wasn’t too affected. He winced as his bite throbbed.

Me either Jack I thought as I nodded and put the UE scroll into my only empty rune space. I followed Jonah to where I had set the flask last night right beside our cooking gear which reminded me we hadn’t had breakfast.

“How about a fast breakfast beforehand?” I asked, and he nodded. Soon we had some Kens frying, because honestly, I was tired of oatmeal, and I could make them like bacon!

We ate and packed up camp. I eyed the flask and sighed, before pinching my nose and chugging down a gulp of the concoction. It tasted like fruit punch! All sorts of fruity flavors. I didn’t know if it was my unbalance beginning or what, but I suddenly felt on top of the world!

“Myra, you are glowing!” cried Jonah.

I chuckled when I fell backward from the sudden blow of images running through my mind.

A green jungle, a mine, children, Kin Beasts, that woman! Then the trail backtraced toward me. It showed me where I needed to go and what I needed to do. Everything! Finally, it ended but the feeling of the bond was there.

  I am coming for you.

A huff, and I chuckled, knowing it was the Kin Beast.

I turned to Jonah. “We need to be in the forests of before, the jungle. Can we do that?”

Jonah nodded. “Yeah, it could take a few hours, but I can get us there.”

“Great. Then let’s start. Chamomille is in a bit of a bind.”

  “Chamomille?”

“The Kin Beast. That’s its name.”

  “Oh.”
