Chapter 9: Asher

I trekked through the forest, nearing the point where me and Lily usually met up. I shook off a bug that attached itself to my leg. It reminded me of when me and Lily went a bit farther into the forest than they normally did and we accidentally stumbled upon a swarm of Froken Flies.

Lily was the unfortunate one to step near them first and they immediately started attacking her. I ughed at her, watching as she screamed, running away from the circur swarm. Luckily, Froken Flies only bit and left an itch that sted 1-2 hours.

After the Flies stopped chasing her and decided to go back to their cozy home near a pond, Lily was sitting on a log, back turned to me as she scratched parts of her body every now and then. She was mad at me for not helping her and finding her circumstances funny. I made it up to her by buying her a piece of chocote afterwards. She absolutely enjoyed it. Chocote was smeared around her mouth and I had to buy a napkin to get it all off her.

I remember I was 12 and she was 11 at that time. 11 and it was her first time eating chocote. Chocote was expensive at that time, I knew, but I would have thought she would have it once in a while as a treat, but apparently not.

I finally reached the clearing where we usually met, but she wasn’t waiting for me as usual. She was normally the first one to be there but I thought that she was probably just te or caught up with something. It’s not unlike her to drift and end up occupied with something else, completely forgetting what she was supposed to do in the first pce.

I found a dry spot on the grass and sat down there, deciding to give her a few minutes to show up.

Time passed. A lot of time. 1 minute. 5 minutes. 20 minutes. 45 minutes.

Then a bush shook. My head snapped around behind me. I quickly stood up, dusting off any dirt on me. I watched the bush shake and shake. I was waiting for Lily to step out or jump out to attempt to scare me. It never worked.

Then, a squirrel darted out the bush, running across the open area and up into a tree, disappearing again. I held back a groan and fell back to the ground. I was slightly worried. Lily would never miss meeting up with me. Never. She has never.

So I sat. And sat. And daydreamed. And watched the squirrel that tricked me eat some acorns. Well, not really eat, more just stack inside a tree.

5 hours. I sat her for five hours before the sun started going down. But I still waited. I didn't want to leave and then Lily came only to find I wasn’t there. I didn’t want to leave her confused and upset.

I y on the grass, staring up at the sky. Branches covered in leaves were at the corner of my vision, poking out from trees. The rest I could see was a wonderful dark blue sky with millions of stars scattered across it. It was beautiful. It looked more beautiful than usual. Not more beautiful than Lily of course. I chuckled at my delirium. I was talking to myself in my head as if someone was listening and ughing along.

Tired. So tired. My eyelids drooped, feeling like the heaviest part of my body. So I let them close, letting sleep wash over me.
