Chapter 32

At first when Henrietta went invisible and hid from the monsters, they became confused when they noticed, and several of them split off in search of her. After a while they came back, evidently their search not being fruitful.

After travelling for another half a day, the Dire Wolves started to slow down, with several more of their kind joining the fleeing group.

"Finally, I was wondering how long they would lead me on this damn chase. I really want to practice my skills, especially seen as I noticed the changes in my body. I feel much stronger and faster, yet I don't have a clue why....Because of the exercise maybe?"

After musing to himself, Bob gripped his spear tight and swung it in an arc to his right hand side. The blade of the weapon drew a swift arc, with only a flash of bright red blood to show he even swung his weapon.

Whilst Bob had been seemingly distracted by his thoughts, and his concentration lowered by the monotonous chasing, a Dire Wolf saw it as an opportunity. The monster had been moving swiftly in his blind spot, and with a thick group of bushes hiding its movement, it lunged out the very instance they ceased.

Jumping through the air, with its jaws wide open and leaving a trail of drool. Its head then became detached, only leaving a trail of blood instead. With a thud, both halves of its body hit the forest floor, with Bob not even sparing it another glance as he continued the chase.

It was not long later when a large cliff face came into view, a gaping hole on its face that opened up the solid rock into a cave. All of the Dire Wolves darted into the cave entrance, vanishing from sight as the darkness swallowed them whole.

Coming to a stop in front of the cave entrance, Bob did not rush on in blindly, instead he focused his senses. He was surprised to sense no other Dire Wolves behind him, or to his flanks, waiting to ambush him once he entered. He could still sense the Dire Wolves that entered the cave for about a hundred metres, before they seemingly vanished.

What was most surprising was that it was not the distance, or lack of light that made them vanish from his senses, but a black curtain of energy, or more precisely an aura.

"That's a powerful aura, so this is where the Terror Wolf is.....They're very sure of themselves, what if I just decided to turn around and run off? Their plan would be ruined.....Might as well humour them, I came for the practice after all"

Bob withdrew his spear from his back, fully expecting a fight ahead of him. With an exhilarated look in his eyes, he moved forwards, swiftly and silently. Once he had entered the cave, he was genuinely amazed to see that it was once a naturally formed cave, but now had been fashioned into man-made (monster-made) tunnels of an intricate design.

The surprising part was that the complexity reminded him of an ant nest, only the construction was done by claws, with every wall being full of their marks. One could only imagine the time and effort it would take a pack of Dire Wolves to continually dig at the solid rock. Bob reaffirmed within his mind that the enemy, the Terror Wolf, must have a large power gap with its subordinates, to make them do such work.

Within the tunnel network, Bob had passed the other side of the aura barrier, and immediately he heard the sound from the monsters he was chasing. Without wasting anymore time, he dug his feet in the ground, his leg muscles bulged as he tensed them, the power building up in his calves and upper legs.

A second later and he propelled himself forwards at such a speed that after-images were left behind. When he reached a bend in the tunnel, he did not slow down, but simply planted his feet on the wall and propelled himself down the next tunnel, emulating a pinball machine.

Without the Dire Wolves knowing, a group of five of them ceased to live at the same time. Their deaths coming before even their brains could process anything. Truly it was the most merciful death one could imagine.

Bob appeared in front of the group, coming to a stop as the Dire Wolves had also stopped, seemingly fine until they exploded. Bob's spear had diced them into hundreds of pieces for each of them. An explosion of blood and viscera coated the tunnel walls, with a splash of the biological material coating the rear of his black cloak.

Bob stood there, his spear steadily dripping with blood, with the same running off his cloak. Several seconds later, an almighty chorus of howls reverberated through the tunnel network. The stench of blood had permeated the air, and the sensitive noses of the Dire Wolves had picked it up. The smell was that pungent, that it would have been impossible to not smell it.

Each howl was greeted by another howl, the cacophony ongoing until it abruptly stopped. The quiet lasted for mere seconds before it was replaced with the sound of heavy paws running in his direction. From the far end of the tunnel, a flurry of black and brown coated Dire Wolves barrelled towards him, their jaws salivating and their eyes filled with madness.

Standing strong with his spear held in front of him, Bob aimed his spear point at the approaching enemies. The first Dire Wolf did not stand a chance, its life was ended by a singular thrust from his spear.

The others did not fare any better. Bob had stabbed the first wolf through the brain, entering its skull between the eyes. His pinpoint precision was remarkable, hitting the moving target effortlessly. With a tense of his arm muscles, he withdrew the spear in a single motion, and thrust it out again, repeating the process multiple times.

The group of seven Dire Wolves had all died by the same method, a single stab between the eyes. The second group that came did not fall for the same trick twice. Just before the lead Dire Wolf came in range of Bob's spear thrust, it ceased its running and ground to a halt. Opening its mouth wide, it let out a deafening roar, one so powerful it was easily classified as a sonic attack. One of the Dire Wolves special attack methods.

The sonic blast hit Bob square on, with the amplified noise made more deadly by the tunnel network. Against Bob's tough scales and thick muscles, the attack inflicted zero damage, but it did manage to stagger him slightly. Taking a step back, his face twitched in annoyance.

Believing that their fellow Dire Wolf's attack was successful, the rest of the group dashed past, and lunged at Bob.

Bringing his spear across with a sweeping motion, the blade bisected the attackers, with him raising his leg and kicking the last one squarely in its face. The impact from his kick fired the Dire Wolf backwards with a snapped neck, and made it slam into the wolf that had used the sonic attack. With its front legs snapped from the impact, the Dire Wolf whimpered on the ground.

Bob did not stay standing, just waiting on the attackers. He could of easily done so, turning his spear into a meat grinder, but, he was genuinely concerned the dead bodies would pile up and block him in.

Secondly, he was excited, his innate instincts as a Lizardman are those of a warrior, a monster that will rip and tear the enemy to pieces, with tooth and claw.

Running forwards, his spear was a blur, where one lucky attacker would slip by, it would be greeted by a foot, or a fist. Running through the tunnel network with his spear never ceasing at reaping lives, Bob stopped counting his kills once he went past thirty.

It was important to note though, that the Dire Wolves were no ordinary wolves, they were monsters the size of a large horse. Its thick skin and coarse fur, paired together to create body armour that only 50cal bullets would penetrate.

The tunnels were running with a river of blood, with the iron smell so strong, even a person without a tongue could taste it in the air. The blood all seemed to run in the same direction, with a blood drenched and exhilarated Lizardman following closely behind.

The tunnel abruptly ended, opening up into a large, natural cavern, with a crystal clear water source at its far end. The roof was lined with stalactites, with many of their number being covered with a bioluminescent lichen.

At the side of the cave, a dark recess was cut into the rock, with a bleak and ominous aura radiating from within it. No other living entities were within the cave, only the recess proving a possibility. That possibility was soon revealed to be a fact.

Bob's senses zeroed onto the black recess immediately. Gripping his spear tight, he calmed his mind slightly to allow him to think clearly. Yet, he did not cleanse his mind completely, his mind and body still yearning for battle.

Almost as if in response to Bob's powerful gaze and battle readiness, a deep and growling voice reached his ears from within the darkness.

"You made it this far, I suppose you are passable at least....I did intend to hunt you and the Human, but she vanished, so hunting you became boring. It is much easier to let you walk into my claws........Tell me monster, why are you working with a Human, are you a trained pet?"

The owner of the voice, lazily walked into the illuminated cave, their eyes still closed in dismissal.

Bob replied to the monsters insults, with a tinge of anger in his voice.

"Tsch. You let me kill all your helpers and fight you alone, are you that confident, or is it hubris?....This is my first time seeing a Terror Wolf"

The monster suddenly opened its eyes upon hearing Bob's last words. Standing at around 9ft tall, it was a whole foot taller than Bob. The monster appeared to be a wolf stood on its hind legs, and more resembling a werewolf.

Its powerful arms were longer than usual, giving it a lopsided gait if it was to run on all fours. Sharp black claws adorned its hands and feet, with jet black fur covering its entire body. Now that its eyes were open, the bright red of them was visible. The contrast of the bright colour, with the black fur, further highlighted its pure white teeth and fangs.

"WHAT!? A Terror Wolf? Are you stupid, do I look like my lesser evolution? I am obviously a Calamity Wolf.....Huh, you are a Lizardman? I knew you were a monster when I sensed your Core, but, a Lizardman!?......How interesting, your kind should not be able to talk the Human tongue, nor should they be able to evolve, or possess higher intelligence....."

It was now Bob's turn to be surprised by the others words. All this time he had believed he was hunting a Terror Wolf, a monster that was one step higher in the evolution scale of a Dire Wolf. Now though, he was faced with a different reality, one of a Calamity Wolf.

Bob had read about a lot of different monsters while he travelled on the boat. Henrietta had given him a book with hundreds of the known monsters and their variants. Unfortunately though, most did not have pictures, or even further details on their aspects.

The section written underneath Calamity Wolf only had two sentences, 'Anyone who meets this monster will understand why it has calamity in its name. Avoid at all costs'.

Bob decided to actively ignore the part about his lack of knowledge.

"Yes I'm a Lizardman, and the only one of my kind. So you can be thankful to meet me before you die"

Upon Bob's provocative words, the monster did not seem angry, and only laughed as he spoke. That was only until he finished speaking though.

"Ha Ha Ha....In the Human world they have a thing called comedians, so that is what you are! You can be my personnel one, but it is better to make sure you are harmless, oops, I mean armless."

The upturned mouth and relaxed eyes changed in a split second. His gums had pulled back to reveal his teeth and fangs in all their glory. His red eyes had narrowed into a split, and even his ears had pulled back.

In an explosive movement that Bob could not even see, the Calamity Wolf had lunged towards him at an imperceptible speed, that stood in contrast to its stature. Bob's danger senses had spiked to a never seen before height, with his full body feeling cold and itchy, and a buzzing within his brain.

Bob's body acted involuntarily, his blood had rushed to his brain and to his extremities, with copious amounts of adrenaline flushing his system. Bringing his arms up, he held the black spear with both hands across his body in a blocking motion. At the same time as he moved his arms, a powerful force pushed back on the spear, with a screeching noise and sparks emanating from its length.

As soon as the force stopped being applied to his spear, he saw the monster appear again several metres in front of him, with one of its arms raised and its claws fully extended. A surprised look was on its face as it spoke.

"Well, well, full of surprises. You managed once, lets see if that was just a fluke!"

Once again he vanished from sight, only a scattering of dirt where he stood, and an accompanying gust of wind.

Bob could barely let out a cry of consternation, before he suffered under the chained attacks.

  "Fuck!!!"

At this point, Bob was relying on his senses completely, with his eyes proving useless. Holding his spear to block, he deftly manoeuvred it over and over again to intercept the attacks. Even so he was successfully blocking, the sheer velocity of its claws attacks was injuring him. His sturdy scales and thick skin, appeared to be nothing more than paper under their tyrannical sharpness and strength.

Sprays of bright red blood flew in the air, but thankfully their volume was only small, proving more of a visual scare, rather than a bodily one.

Bob had weathered hundreds of attacks, with their volume and intensity not decreasing in the slightest, with them increasing if anything. One good thing during their bout was, Bob had realised the attacks were all directed at the points where his limbs met his body. He apparently was quite serious about making him armless, and even legless.

Whilst Bob was deciding on a good way to counter his speedy enemy, the monster in question was feeling rather disgruntled. What he saw as an easy win, utilizing his speed against a static target who could not even see, or react to his attacks, was in fact a hard nut to crack.

Understanding that the speed and consistency of his attacks could not keep up indefinitely, the monster chose to change tactic, and use the other weapon at its disposal. The only problem being that Bob had the exact same idea, at the exact same time.

Fate truly is a funny thing.

The monster stopped its claw attacks, and opened its mouth wide to bite Bob, lunging forward with its salivating jaws and razor sharp teeth.

Bob was blocking the incessant claw attacks when he decided to use one of his natural weapons, his powerful jaw. In a single explosive movement, he opened his mouth wide and lunged his head forwards, with a spray of spittle flying through the air. His clean, white teeth shone even brighter under the bioluminescent lichen above his head.

It was at that moment they both regretted their actions. The pair of monsters became locked in what could only be called, a passionate kiss. The worst part was that the momentum of both of them, coupled with their unique facial structures, led to them getting stuck.

Both of their eyes went wide in shock and horror, as they met each other during their kiss. At the same time, both of them had a sharp change in their mind, and fighting was the last thing they wanted to partake in. Pushing as hard as possible, the pair tried to separate, but to no avail.

While they fought to separate, they both became aware of a strange occurrence at the side of the cave. A murderous aura, and an intense heat was radiating from that spot.

Bob fully understood who it was, and so should not of been scared, yet, he was terrified. He felt like he had been caught cheating and his wife was about to murder him.

The Calamity Wolf had no clue who the person was, he had not sensed a single thing that would lead him to believe a person was standing mere metres away from him. He did not even give the thought any regard, that the person was Bob's partner who vanished during his subordinates chase and lure.

There was one thing he knew however, that murderous aura was suffocating, and from someone far more powerful than himself. Also, that intense heat that was spiking rapidly, was the bane of his fur covered body.

A feminine shout of rage was muffled by the sound of a fireball exhibiting intense heat, hurtling towards the Calamity Wolf.

Both of the monsters could see the incoming attack from the side of their eyes. Although the attack would not hurt Bob, with his innate defences, he was still thankful the attack was not aimed at him. Apparently Bob was not suffering from Henrietta's ire, and as such he was extremely thankful, and also feeling extreme pity for the flammable wolf monster.

The swirling mass of reds and oranges streaked through the air and slammed into the Calamity Wolf. The sheer force of the attack gave the monster the added push he needed to separate. He was sent flying backwards, the fireball no more, only leaving the monster now engulfed in flames, that showed no sight of abating.

The moment Bob's mouth became unblocked, he took a large gasp of air, before looking towards Henrietta. He could not see her with his normal senses, but his thermal vision could see her. She was stood there in an intense rage, her chest and shoulders heaving up and down.

"Ahh Henrii, it's not what it looks like! I was trying to bite him and rip his throat out!"

Bob waved his hands about in panic, with the worry in his voice near palpable.

At the same time as Bob fretted about his perverted partner, the Calamity Wolf was having a horrendous time. The flames covered his entire body, his black fur proved an excellent fuel to the fire, as they were reduced to ash in mere seconds, making him look like a naked mole rat. The flames still stuck to him as his skin blistered, popped, and cracked apart.

Extreme terror gripped the Calamity Wolf, with the initial pain no longer felt, his pain receptors having been completely destroyed already. Resorting to his primal instincts, he knew what his only chance of survival was, and he grabbed it with both hands.

Running on all fours, he bounded over and jumped into the clear water. With a loud splash and the noise of boiling water, and flames being extinguished, the Calamity Wolf vanished from sight.

With the noise and actions of the Calamity Wolf, it shook Bob out of his apologising routine. Snapping his head round to stare at the pool of water, a frown crept on his face as his senses spread out. Although the pool of water was not large within the cave, it was a different matter entirely, further down.

The pool of water changed into a large area, and with there also being another feature that worried Bob. There was another up-shoot that led to an air pocket, one similar to the cave he was currently in, only smaller in size.

Bob's frown was swept from his face, and replaced with one of panic as his senses detected what else was there. With a quick shout, Bob charged forwards and dove into the pool of water.

  "He's getting away!"

Henrietta regained her senses, her extreme anger had practically made her brain malfunction. She wanted to comfort her beloved Red, but she could not snap out of her rage at that despicable monster that tried to molest him.

Her senses were not as strong as Bob's, so she could not detect the other cave, nor what was inside it. She did however, assume the water source led to an exit. Henrietta was not concerned though, the monster was just a training partner, and did not even matter if it escaped. Also, it had taken extreme damage, and it would be a miracle if it could cling to life and heal from its injuries.

Henrietta approached the water, making a decision on whether to follow or not. Her fire based powers would be rendered practically useless under water, with her only being able to depend on her immense strength, and cold weaponry.

At the same time as Henrietta mused over her dilemma, Bob was in hot pursuit of the Calamity Wolf. Being a lizard, Bob took to the water like a fish, well, takes to water. With his powerful tail acting as propulsion, he easily cut through the water, his eyes set on his prey.

Nearing the other cave, the Calamity Wolf was currently praying to every God that the Humans had, and also a few he randomly made up. His body was not in any pain, but all of his movements felt stiff, with broken pieces of flesh breaking off with every moment that passed.

Jumping out of the water, he landed on the ground in a tragic heap. Gritting his teeth, he forced himself to move forwards. He knew death was quickly approaching from his rear, and he also knew the ability to heal himself, and subsequently save his life, was ahead of him.

Bob flew through the water on an ascent, the waters surface growing ever closer. With a final swish from his tail, he jumped out of the water, reaching such a height that he nearly hit the cave roof.

As he fell through the air, Bob could only look on in panic when he saw the Calamity Wolf vanish from sight. The moment Bob's feet touched the ground, he ran forwards, but skidded to a halt suddenly. A slight worry of a different kind was now on his face.

"This should be fine, Henrii will follow me......Won't she?"

A few minutes later, Henrietta emerged from the water, standing in the cave alone. Her clothes had become skin tight, with them sticking to her body and cutting a ravishing figure. Her black hair was loose and stuck together down her back. With a slight squint in her eyes, a red circle was reflecting in them, and her mouth was wide open in shock as she took in the sight before her.

A bad premonition occurred to her, a panic slowly feeling its way up her body. Taking in a deep breath, she actively controlled her emotions.

"A Dungeon portal....And a red one to boot.....A DUNGEON BREAK PORTAL FOR FUCK SAKE!.......Hmph, like such a puny thing would stand in the way of my love"

With her back straight, and chin raised, a look of supreme confidence radiated from her. Walking forwards, her steps did not cease until she had passed through the portal, and stepped foot in the Broken Dungeon.
