Chapter 1

  Two men were in the middle of a meeting in a poorly lit office that was only lit by the slightly opened curtain of the huge window that was most of the back wall, the room also had a bookshelf on one side of the room filled with old worn books about history and warfare, an old wooden desk that had a noticeable stain from where a gss will always sit on the desk positioned in the centre of the room and a family crest with a heart made out of cogs on the other side of the room. The men were discussing creating a new spy task force in case New IronPort decides to wage war against them.

  “Experiment 6, otherwise known as Adam, is a natural-born mutant under the category of Malvado. He would be an excellent choice to be the leader of this task force,” said Mr Ravencroft. Mr Ravencroft was a tall and muscur man who wore a formal shirt, tie, waistcoat, pants, and bomber jacket with rank pels on his shoulders, he also used a cane that was white and gold.

  Mayor Steelheart gave him a cold, empty stare, then looked down at the paper reports and flipped through it, then he said in a very unenthusiastic voice, “He will do” Mr Steelheart was dressed in a simir outfit as Mr Ravencroft except he didn’t wear a bomber jacket and he wore a highly decorated bowler hat that was adorned with raven feathers and cogs and gears. He also wore a golden monocle on his right eye and had a pocket watch that dangled from his waistcoat pocket.

  Mr Ravencroft then asked, “And the other candidates?” Mr Steelheart then rose from his seat, adjusted his suit and said, “Mr Ravencroft, I will trust your judgement. Now leave me in peace.” Mr. Ravencroft nodded and then left the office. Mr Steelheart then grabbed a gss from the shelf and the whiskey and set them on his desk. He then sat back down and poured himself a drink.

  He then looked at a portrait on a desk, let out a sigh, and said, “I miss you, Eliza.” Then he heard a knock on the door, and then he yelled, “Go away, Angelica. Daddy is busy.” Then he pulled out a bck, worn book from the top drawer. Gerald, how long till you get the items I requested?” A small, skinny man entered the room and said, “I will bring them now, sir”

  Mr Ravencroft entered a b that used to be a church that worshipped the god Descrubimiento, or as they liked to call him, the god of discovery, although Mr Ravencroft was not a religious man because his work shows that science was the answer to everything.

  The church used to be a small building, but to make it suit their needs, they added a few extensions to the building, but kept the architecture the same because Mr Ravencroft admired the beauty of it. The main bs were set up where the old bell tower used to be is where most of the scientists now worked on making technological breakthroughs in hopes of having an advantage in a possible war.

  Then, to the left, was the first oval-shaped extension, in this space, they had a hospital-type space, but this was where they performed experiments to try and create their own mutants and other scientific breakthroughs.

  Mr Ravencroft started heading to another extension on the right, which is where the office of the head scientist was, but before he made his way over, a small, plump man with short strands of wispy grey hair, wearing a long white coat, bck gloves and goggles came out of the office and ran up to him

  The head scientist saluted and greeted him, “Morning, General”. Mr Ravencroft scowled at him and asked, “Are they ready?” The scientist's face went pale, and he stuttered as he said, “No, sir. Experiment 9, the unnatural she…uhm…escaped” Mr Ravencroft’s face went red with rage, and he yelled, “WHAT!” Then, from inside his coat he pulled out a gold and white flintlock pistol and shot him in the head. The noise echoed throughout the whole building for a few minutes.

  All the scientists in the room flinched except one, a woman called Amelia Evercroft, who smirked. She had dark auburn hair that she had up in two pigtails, she wore a bck and dark brown petticoat, a white shirt with a high colr, and a dark brown corset. Mr Ravencroft then blew the smoke from his gun then returned it to its holster inside his jacket.

  Mr Ravencroft then pointed at Amelia and yelled, “You're in charge now”, which caused people to argue and gossip. A scientist whispered to another, “I heard they were dating, so maybe he promoted her because he is in love” The second guy then whispered back “Or maybe that whore got the promotion by sleeping with the guy and bought his silence by demanding for a promotion”

  Someone then yells, “Why are you putting a disgusting mutant in charge?” Mr Ravencroft then let out a sigh before saying, “Because I said so, who are you to question me? I am a high-ranking official. When I put someone in charge, you do not question me, do I make myself clear?” The whole room filled with everyone yelling “Yes, sir,” and the scientist gave a disgusted look before whispering to another scientist, “Can you believe him, he puts a woman in charge, what bsphemy.” Suddenly bang!

  The scientist who was running his mouth was now screaming while holding up his hand that had a hole, and blood was gushing out like a waterfall. He let out a high-pitched squeal while Mr Ravencroft said to him, “Next time it will be your tongue. If anyone else wants to run their tongue, speak now.” The room went dead silent, then he said, “No one else?..... Good, keep it that way.”

  Amelia Evercroft was an unusual mutant because her power category was neither Semideus nor Malvado. Her only real special ability was that she was smarter, so rather than make her an experiment, they hired her as a scientist, and she quickly rose to fame in the bs because of her knowledge of mutant genes.

  She immediately started giving out orders to the other scientists, telling one, “Preserve that body, we can study it ter,” then to another she pointed to him and yelled, “You clean the mess off the floor,” She then looked around and then pointed at another guy and yelled “You, check on the children and if they asked what happened tell them an accident happened” and then she went back to her desk and continued her work. She was currently researching and designing ways to use robotics as a way to help amputees, and she was close to perfecting a robotic arm.

  Mr Ravencroft then spoke gently to her, “So you're still free tonight?” Then, Amelia looked at him and said with excitement, “Of course I am. Did you buy the tickets?” his face went pale and he said, “I forgot to buy the tickets” She let out a little giggle, then said, “Just as well I bought the tickets” he then leaned in for a kiss and said “This is why I love you”

  She then blushed and said, “I need to go back to work, and you should go help look for 9. Take Adam with you; it will be great training for him” Mr Ravencroft nodded, but before he left, Amelia then handed him a box and said, “This will help Adam use his abilities.” He nodded, then left her to her work
