Chapter 20: The Big Shot’s Gaze Is Terrifying
“Damn, that's a real kill shot — attacking the heart. Now this is how you deal with a love rival. When did that tag-along Ye become so clever?” Cary nudged Lin Yan beside him. Lin Yan simply shook his head and continued watching Ye Xian quietly. “Don’t you think he’s been... different tonight?”
Cary nodded. “Yeah, different — especially asking for a beating!”
“Alright now, Jingshu, it’s the thought that counts. Grandpa appreciates your effort.” Old Master Bo noticed Cheng Jingshu’s embarrassment and subtly shifted the focus away by looking toward Ye Xian. “Young man, what’s your name?”
Seriously? Even though the original Ye Xian had been in the same team as Jiang Wanze for over two years, Old Master Bo still didn’t know her name? Looks like he really didn’t pay much attention to Jiang Wanze.
“Ye Xian.”
“Ye Xian... with the surname Ye…”
Bo Yuanshan murmured to himself, seeming to savor the name.
Ye Xian looked at him — and suddenly had a lightbulb moment. Right! How could she forget she also prepared a gift for Old Master Bo?
This man was a founding figure of the Bo Group empire, and the one Bo Tingshen respected most. Pleasing him was basically a shortcut to earning favor with the top boss!
With that thought, Ye Xian gleefully grabbed the gift box that Ye Shaowen had prepared for her and walked over.
“Chairman Bo, I actually have a small gift for you too.”
“Oh?” Old Master Bo raised an eyebrow with interest. “And what is it?”
Ye Xian began untying the yers of ribbon on the box — it was tied very securely.
Once it was finally open, she carried it over like a bootlicker and presented it to him with a big grin.
Her second brother, a rich guy with too much money to burn, must have picked something super expensive.
But the moment she opened it…
She froze — completely stunned, as if struck by lightning.
What the hell?! What is Ye Shaowen trying to pull?!
Just as Old Master Bo leaned in for a closer look, Ye Xian smmed the lid shut with lightning speed — bang!
Old Master Bo: “What’s wrong?”
“N-Nothing…” Ye Xian’s expression went through an entire drama series worth of changes. The guests around her were all intrigued, their curiosity growing at her suspicious behavior.
“I just suddenly remembered that opening gifts in front of people is more of a Western custom. In China, we’re more reserved. It’s better if you open it ter, Chairman Bo~”
“Young as you are, you sure understand etiquette. Alright.”
Old Master Bo nodded and made a move to accept the box.
To his surprise, Ye Xian hugged the gift box tightly to her chest and wouldn’t let go. “How could I let the birthday star take it himself? I’ll hand it to the butler once the banquet’s over.”
“Fair enough.”
Luckily, Old Master Bo was easy to appease.
Ye Xian discreetly wiped the sweat from her forehead. Just as she turned around — she met Bo Tingshen’s gaze.
His dark eyes were locked onto the gift box in her arms. Who knows how long he'd been staring, but his intense gaze made her skin crawl.
He didn’t see what was inside earlier… right? But if he didn’t, then why did his expression feel so... ominous?
Ye Xian clutched the gift box and scurried back to her seat, lowering her head and quietly eating her food.
Cary, curious, tapped the box she was holding. “What treasure are you hiding in there? Didn’t expect this from you, Ye the tag-along. You’ve become a scheming boy now, huh? Actually prepared a gift for Chairman Bo? Since when did you get so good at sucking up?”
“Touch it again and I’ll stomp your foot.”
“Tch, what kind of treasure is it~”
