The first rays of daylight painted the sky with hues of pink and orange, and a gentle breeze ruffled my hair as we soared through the open expanse of the azure sky.
Beneath us, the ndscape began to shift, revealing the unmistakable signs of our approach to the capital city. The once-tiny structures scattered across the ground grew into clusters of buildings, their rooftops catching the early morning light.
As we descended lower in the sky, my eyes were drawn downward. The sprawling city streets, once bustling with the life of the city's people, now resembled a vast, shadowy ant farm. Tiny figures scurried about like specks of dust, many cd in the glinting armor of soldiers.
My breath caught as I beheld the true extent of the looming spectacle. The ground below was no longer the welcoming sight of our capital; it had transformed into a sea of men and horses, all arranged in formation. The soldiers' formations were so precise that they resembled an intricate mosaic of steel and leather, a show of discipline of their army.
I kept a keen eye on the numbers below as we passed, and a thrill of excitement coursed through me. I have never had strong opinions on war, never really cared about it, but I think war feels different when you think victory is all but guaranteed. Ulric's team probably think the same. They have two times our numbers after all and a way more stronger force, but they are in for the shock of their life.
Eowyn descended upon the city with breathtaking majesty, a dark silhouette against the morning sky.The soldiers below, amidst their preparations for war, halted in their tracks, their expressions frozen in astonishment, and a collective gasp escaped their lips.
As she neared the ground, her massive form impacted with a resounding boom that sent tremors through the earth. Dust and debris scattered in all directions, and the once-sturdy ground quivered beneath the weight of her nding.
Eowyn, with a rumbling grace, began to recline her colossal form, her great scales and sinewy muscles shifting as she descended even closer to the ground. The very earth beneath her protested her weight, causing a symphony of creaks and groans as her massive body settled, causing the ground to tremble beneath me. Her wings, once imposing, now y still, providing a ptform for us to disembark. Some knights approached as I came down from Eowyn.
Everybody got down and Eowyn stood back up and slowly her massive bulk began to shrink and reshape itself, a graceful change unfolding as she assumed her human form.
She stood, completely naked; her body full and showing no signs of her age. I knew she would have a great body beneath the cloak but I didn't expect her to be this full and almost youthlike.
Her knees buckled beneath her, and it seemed as though she might crumple to the ground in exhaustion but Vojnka was quick to catch her.
"Take her to the castle" I said, and Vojnka scooped up the naked woman effortlessly and started hurrying to the inner city, towards the castle.
I stood for a moment, watching the soldiers as they moved through the city. The atmosphere hung heavy with an oppressive gloom, as if the very air had absorbed the fear, desperation, and despair that now clung to everyone.
Soldiers went about their preparations with downcast expressions, the once vibrant spirit of determination now repced by a palpable sense of defeat. The ctter of armor and the weary shuffle of boots on cobblestones echoed through the city's streets, but it was accompanied by an unsettling silence, a quiet acknowledgment of the looming threat that had sapped their morale.
That's not good, but I guess it will make for a sweeter victory.
I looked up at the wall, where thousands waited, armed with bows and arrows, their swords resting at their sides. Amongst them I saw mother and Helene, looking out the city, at the army getting ready to attack us.
I started making my way towards them, accompanied by 4 knights, including Mustapha. As I climbed the stairs to the battlement, mother turned to face me, and a smile graced her lips as a greeting. It was a smile that carried warmth but also a hint of sadness, silently acknowledging the gravity of the moment and the uncertainty that loomed over us. She was wearing a red sleeveless form-fitting dress, boasting waist-high thigh splits on both sides, revealing tight war leather trousers with straps and buckles . Golden bracelets adorned both her forearms, and her hair was elegantly pulled into a messy bun. Despite the weight of her concerns etched on her face, her beauty shone through, undeniable and captivating.
"How was the party?" mother asked as I reached her on the battlement.
"It was fun" I replied, and then turn to face the massive army ready to take our city. I can see Ulric, seating comfortably infront, on top his albino horse. You can feel his confidence all the way from here.
"What are they waiting for?" I muttered, more to myself than anyone in particur and then as though propelled by my words, someone flew from Ulric's side towards us.
He stood several feet away from us, suspended mid-air, and his attire spoke volumes. He wore robes that made me think of the Jedi, with earthy browns and subdued grays. The fabric swayed gracefully with the wind as he hovered in the air.
"Great soldiers and knights of Drakoria!" he began, his voice louder than I think should be humanly possible. "Ulric Von Hohenberg, direct descendant of Vendric Von Hohenberg is giving you the chance to avert a great disaster that's about to befall you and our great kingdom. Remove the house of Dragonhart as the true rulers of..."
"Take him down," I said to Erik in a casual tone, even as the wind mage's voice continued to boom across the city. "And don't you dare miss."
The archer knight casually retrieved an arrow from his gilded quiver strapped to his back, and as he strung it, the atmosphere around us grew oppressive, a telltale sign of his mana in use. My gaze remained fixed on the subtle, almost cloud-like formation that swirled gently from the arrow's point to its nock. In a single, swift exhale, the arrow was released from the bow.
Instinctively, I turned my head, unable to witness the impact, but the messenger's sudden stillness spoke volumes. His face twisted in shock as he lowered his gaze to his own body, discovering it hollowed out. A gaping void now occupied a substantial chunk of his belly, as if a red hot bowling ball had forced it's way through. For a moment, his eyes locked onto our direction before he plummeted from the sky, hitting the ground with an audible thud.
Silence enveloped the surroundings, and I shifted my gaze to the direction of Ulric. I wanted to see his reaction, but he was too far away for me to make out any details. Somehow I believe he would be indifferent about it.
The silence hung for just a few seconds before Ulric slowly raised his hand, and with it came a heavy rumbling that shook the city walls. We thought that was it, but the rumbling continued, growing even louder.
From the distance, the ground broke apart near Ulric, and it surged toward us rapidly. The deep ditches we had dug and filled with water were overturned in an instant.
Someone grabbed me, and another person did the same for my mother. Just in time, we leaped from the wall as it crumbled, as if a mighty earthquake had struck. It was an intense and terrifying moment.
The city sprawled before us, its mighty walls now reduced to scattered debris as far as the eye could see. A vast expanse of dust and rubble was all that stood between us and the advancing enemy, leaving us utterly defenseless.
Within the city, the scene was a grim sight, with hundreds of lives lost and fallen soldiers scattered about. In the distance, the enemy's war cries filled the air, growing louder as their overwhelming numbers closed in on the city.
All around me was chaos, and the shouts of senior officers barking commands to restore order to the disarray army. I think some were even bold enough to run away.
Nothing ever happens as I envision it to.
All I need now is a visual confirmation of Ulric's precise position. In the chaos, I was moving forward, and that's when I noticed my feet was wet. I stared down at them, the ground around me was soaked. The attack had shattered the rge water barrels intended for fortifying the walls.
I stared at the drenched ground for a moment, then a scene popped into mind.
[Water arts] activated.
Water began to separate from the dirt, rising from the ground. Those not near were gravitated toward me, converging in the rge swirling mass of water now encircling me.
The water clung to me with a firm yet gentle grip, and as more gathered, my feet gradually left the ground. In mere moments, I found myself elevated within a towering column of water.
My movement forward was far from seamless, yet it served its purpose well. Soon, I stood atop the ruins of my city's walls.
The army drew nearer, their approaching footsteps resonating like thunder against the devastated terrain. Their vast numbers extended far and wide, but at the distant end, I could see Ulric Von Hohenberg.
Behind me, the order to "fire" reverberated through the air, followed by the distinct sound of arrows being released and then the sky was filled with thousands of arrows, briefly blocking out the sun as they descended upon the oncoming invaders.
The enemy, well-prepared, raised their shields above their heads in a desperate attempt to defend against the arrows. The deafening collision cimed the lives of only a few dozen of them.
With the shields above their heads they kept pressing forward, the arrow onsught causing but a momentary disturbance.
Let's get started.
<Προστ?σσω σε, θεο? των ουραν?ν, βασιλε?? του ουρανο?, αφ?στε ?ναν ισχυρ? κεραυν? να π?σει π?νω στον εχθρ? μου.>
The clouds of the skies turned even darker as a deafening rumble echoed through the heavens.
A tangible fear seized the entire army, causing every soldier to halt in their tracks. I noticed Ulric, however, gazing up at the darkened skies with curiosity rather than fear.
Then, with a resounding voice, I bellowed, "<Κεραυν?? πλ?ξει!>"
The skies rumbled with even greater intensity, and the dismay and chaos it incited among the army was unmistakable. Then, within the darkened clouds, a brilliant fsh of light erupted, giving birth to a searing lightning bolt. This powerful force of nature streaked across the sky, hurtling directly toward Ulric.
The lightning struck him with a resounding boom, and he and his horse crumbled to the ground.
The silence that ensued held a deafening quality, and a profound stillness enveloped the surroundings. However, that stillness was abruptly shattered by distant, triumphant cheers emerging from Ulric's position, where his soldiers raised their spears and swords to the sky in jubition.
At first I didn't understand what was happening but then I saw it. Through raised shields and swords, Ulric Von Hohenberg. Unscathed.
Fuck.
