Chapter 4- Learning

  Third POV-

  Sandgem Town, Professor Rowan’s lab

“And this is the end of my research,” Catherine said, standing respectfully after finishing her presentation on the Pokémon habitats and migration in Unova that could make the Pokémon trigger their evolutions. Catherine also explained her new research on the evolution of Pokémon through moves and bonding with the trainer.

Professor Rowan was impressed by her new research, even though her finished study was good, but it was not that great when compared to the new research she was going to study.

“That’s good research you have done, Ms. Catherine Ashford. But you got my interest in your next research, and I will give you my full support for it,” said Professor Rowan with a straight face. Meanwhile, the four assistant researchers sitting behind Professor Rowan had smiles on their faces as they had a new person joined their group.

“Thank you, Professor Rowan, and I will give the results of this new research,” said Catherine with a smile.

“After talking with my assistant researchers, please come in private to talk about your conditions, Ms. Catherine Ashford,” said Professor Rowan, getting up from the chair to leave the room as she nodded her head.

“Hello, Ms. Catherine, my name is Mira Cladwell. Like you, I also had a great interest in the Pokémon habitat and migration.” Said Mira, her amber colored eyes glanced at the blonde beauty with interest. She had Chestnut-brown hair that was usually tied in a loose ponytail, with her skin tone shimmering with a warm olive complexion, and like any researcher, she usually wore the light beige research coat.

“Oh my, that’s great to me, then you need to help me a lot for me to learn all the Pokémon habitats in Sinnoh, Ms. Cladwell,” Catherine said while raising her hand to shake with Mira.

“Then be ready to travel a lot with me to learn about the wonderful Pokémon habitats. And I know some beautiful places for you to look out in the wild,” said Mira with an excited face as her fellow researcher’s bright personality amused Catherine, who nodded and turned to the remaining three assistant researchers, who introduced their names and their field research.

She talked with her team for a few minutes and went to Professor Rowan’s office, where he was studying the papers that were on his table.

  “Hello, Professor Rowan.”

“Ha! Please come inside, Ms. Ashford.”

Catherine nodded her head and stepped into the office. She closed the door and sat on the chair in front of Professor Rowan.

“You don’t need to worry, Ms. Ashford. I had talked with Professor Juniper, and she told me about your nephew’s situation. And I am glad you have taken this decision. So, take your time and spend with your nephew, or maybe you should travel around the Sinnoh with Ms. Cladwell along with your nephew.”

“Thank you, Professor Rowan, this is truly a great help for me to focus on my nephew’s mental health, and after his fear is gone from his heart. I will feel some relief in my heart. But don’t worry, I won’t stop my research because I had this hunch in my mind in this new research,” she said with slight relief in her heart after she put some conditions to join as the assistant researcher, and that was to take care of Finn in her home while doing work from home.

“Please fill these forms, and give your ID to register your name in my Lab,” said Professor Rowan.

She immediately gave her Unova ID and began filling up the forms as she finally became the assistant researcher in Professor Rowan’s Lab, which would receive the benefits and facilities in the Sinnoh.

“Professor Rowan, may I use the Pokémon Transfer Machine to get my Pokémon team from Professor Juniper?” asked Catherine after finishing up the form as Professor Rowan's stern eyes lit, thinking that he could check on the Unova region’s Pokémon.

He nodded, “Sure, why not? But first, could you let me check your Pokémon because normally I couldn’t get a chance to study on another region Pokémon, especially the Unova region?”

She smiled and nodded at him to agree to his request, as a researcher, even she couldn’t waste the chance to look at the other region Pokémon, and she had been eager to study the Pokémon in the Sinnoh region.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

“What’s your nephew’s age, Mrs. Ashford. Are you planning to let him attend the test to get a starter in this region, or else you want to let him have the starter in your region?” Professor Rowan asked her.

“Currently, my nephew is 5 years old. Regarding the starter Pokémon, he had a Pokémon egg with him, and based on my nephew’s character, he won’t agree to get a starter, but I will let him attend the test, which is always good because he will receive some benefits after passing the test,” she said with a thought of teaching Finn to before he attend the test as she don’t know what are the questions will be in the test but she would research and teach him.

“An egg? Please inform me after it hatches,” said Professor Rowan, and began asking questions regarding the Pokémon in the Unova, which Catherine patiently began explaining to him.

  Finn’s POV-

Learning under Aunt Johanna was difficult because she was very strict, until I finished the topic perfectly, she could never let me jump to another topic of making Poke blocks for different types.

At first, she asked me whether I had decided to choose a Pokémon type specialist, but I am still deciding which one I should follow in either a Type specialist or a generalist. So, in the end, Aunt Johanna let me learn how to prepare the Poke blocks for every Pokémon type.

But, I am having fun learning with Aunt Johanna, who had the patience in teaching me while she was making food for us, including Dawn, who was currently in Elementary school. Remembering school, I still don’t know why my Aunt Cath didn’t ask me to join the Elementary school. Maybe after my aunt Cath had adjusted to her job at Professor Rowan, she might send me to the Elementary school. I felt uneasy going to the school after experiencing the bullying in Unova.

“That’s good, Finn. And I think this is enough for today's lessons. In the future, you might feel a little overwhelmed to learn the making process of Poke blocks, but if you put a little effort, you will automatically take care of your Pokémon, like the time sense will be adjusted in your journey.” Said Johanna came behind me as I was sitting on the sofa while taking notes of Johanna’s training journal, and I have to say Aunt Johanna’s handwriting was perfect to understand.

I knew it, even in my class, I noticed some girls had good handwriting that I was always jealous of, wait, I should check on Dawn’s handwriting once.

Suddenly, my stomach grumbled, smelling the warm and tasty food in the kitchen.

“Fufu… Your Pokémon team will be healthy and powerful if you take care of them correctly. You also need to know what kind of berries should be eaten, and also should know what shouldn’t be eaten by some specific Pokémon.”

“If you daily learn this, it will be imprinted in your mind, and when the time you start your journey. Your mind will remember what you have learned, follow these lessons, and that will give you victory in the conference or Gym battles.” She said with an encouraging smile, and I nodded my head while she went to the kitchen to prepare the food for the table.

I understood the reason for Aunt Johanna insisting on teaching her daughter to learn to make the poke blocks and take care of Pokémon. Because when Pokémon were in better condition, their durability in battles

“Mommy!” shouted a girl around my age, who had a big, excited grin on her cute face, and I stood up to greet her enthusiasm. Dawn's eyes lit up, seeing me, and she ran towards keeping the school bag to the side.

“Finn, what are you doing here?” asked Dawn, holding my hands, taking me to her room as she wanted to show me her room. I am embarrassed to enter a girl’s room, glanced at Aunt Johanna, who nodded her head, and I sighed with relief as I thought she might be angry at Dawn for taking me to her room.

Because of me, Dawn shouldn’t be scolded, and I already experienced this when I first visited a girl classmate who didn’t care about my appearance, but her parents scolded her for inviting me to her house.

“Wait, Dawn, first, why don’t you freshen up and eat food. Later, I will come to your room and play with you,” I said to Dawn, who thought for a while and nodded her head as she ran to her room in a hurry.

Then I didn’t waste my time, went to meet Aunt Johanna, who had a confused face after seeing me.

  “Aunt…”

“You think a lot about useless things, Finn dear. I won’t be mad at you, so don’t worry,” she said while ruffling my black hair, while I slightly nodded my head with ease, feeling in my heart. Even though I don’t know why my classmate was scolded by her parents, I won’t repeat the same mistake and let Dawn be scolded and sad.

“Finn, you need to know this….”

Dawn wore the casual dress, running towards me after freshening up, and I listened, lively, rambling about her friends in her school. I have to say, I am jealous of Dawn having friends like a normal child, but I still have some fears about joining elementary school.

“Yeah, Dawn, I forgot to say, I am learning how to make Poke blocks along with taking care of Pokémon under Aunt Johanna.”

Dawn was taken aback, making a cute surprised face after she knew how strict her mother was when it came to teaching.

“Are you sure, Finn? You may not know, but my mother was very strict. I suffered a lot in her teaching…” she whispered in my ears while we both sat on the sofa. It tickled my ears after her breath blew into my ear. I chuckled a little, seeing her fearful face, but I shook my head and nodded my head with reassurance to not worry about it.

“That’s because you always fell asleep whenever you held the books, Dawn,” said Aunt Johanna as Dawn's face became bright red with embarrassment after her mother's report. I held my laugh back, glanced at Aunt Johanna to stop, who rolled her eyes and began placing the food items on the table.

“Dawn, you know the Pokémon egg is going to hatch next week. So, I need to prepare to take care of the baby Pokémon, and also, the main reason I am learning under Aunt Johanna is because my dream is to become the world's best Pokémon trainer, for which I need to learn to take care of my future Pokémon team.”

She gazed at my determined eyes; I didn’t look away from her admiring blue eyes on me, and more importantly, I love Pokémon, so learning how to take care of them was a plus for me.

“Dawn?” I waved my hand at her face as she shook her head and turned away, while I saw her ears turn red. I am confused about her behavior, and Aunt Johanna chuckled, seeing our interaction.

“Anyway, Dawn, we will both do the combined study from now onwards because your dream was to win the Coordination contest like Aunt Johanna,” I said, and noticed her facial expression.

“I know, but the judges will look at your Pokémon maintenance like their fur smoothness and appearance are the main importance factor when you do the contests. My aunt Cath also told me that Poffins make the Pokémon's beauty stats. So, I will learn how to make the Poke blocks, and in the meantime, you will learn to make the Poffins.”

As soon as I said the beauty stats, Dawn’s face glowed up, and I immediately understood how Dawn only likes the cuteness, so I won’t be surprised if she only has her team with cute Pokémon, and it's a plus to the contest.

“But I will only learn in making Poffins, I don’t want to read the books, Finn,” Dawn said in a begging voice that she doesn’t want to hold the book again. I chuckled at her cuteness and nodded my head, which she shouted with joy.

“Ok, stop your chatting, you two, go and wash your hands for Lunch,” said Johanna as we both nodded our heads and went to wash our hands.

“Hey Dawn, in the evening you will have a surprise, be ready.”

“Really, tell me about it, Finn,” she asked me immediately as she couldn’t wait to know the surprise.

“Then it won’t be a surprise, Dawn, if I tell you.”

I slipped away, leaving Dawn scowl her face for me to hang her hopes.
