Chapter 16

Hot on my heels, the Onisha flew through the air as we continued our dance of death. It was floating in the air with no apparent external aid- it must have received some form of flight related ability.

“When pigs fly” as they say.... except this particular overgrown piggy was hellbent on vaporizing me into a fine mist.

As I barely managed to avoid its attacks by the skin of my teeth, it began to roar in fury.

“Stay still, little worm! Know that it is your honor to die by my hand!”

Man, did any of these otherworlders have some original lines?

I didn’t even have the breath left to spare a response; I was quickly approaching the end of my rope. I’d only made it this far because I was much lighter without the Lycoph arm but my legs had already begun to dangerously wobble and my heart felt as if it were about to burst.

I had to somehow disengage from it and at least get a moment to recover my stamina. As it charged straight at me, smashing through branches as thick as tree trunks, I retrieved the two light orbs I had no longer been using.

Then, eyes tightly shut, I ferociously smashed the orbs against the tree next to me.

A flood of compressed light instantly detonated and for a brief moment, day appeared in the Canopy.

The sudden intense burst of illumination sent the Onisha reeling in pain and confusion as it crashed into the ground. Even I, who had been facing away with eyes closed, felt a sharp stab of pain in my sensitive eyes.

Taking advantage of its momentary blindness, I barely managed to dart away into the sprawling array of branches, only making it a relatively short distance before my legs completely collapsed.

The Onisha, quickly recovering within a couple minutes, began rampaging. It smashed tree after tree in its sight, its wrath and energy seemingly limitless.

High up in the Canopy, shrouded within a cluster of leaves, I lay on a thick branch as I watched from above.

I didn’t have much time; at its current rate, it’d soon be bulldozing my tree as well.

Quickly navigating through the Shop menu, I purchased a [Medium Stamina Potion] for 300 points. I quickly chugged it down and soon my heaving chest began to settle while warmth returned to my limbs.

Next, I uncorked a Greater Potion and held it between my teeth horizontally. I withdrew a spare Lycoph arm and holding it against my empty right shoulder, activated .

As the Greater Potion steadily poured from my mouth, the Lycoph arm Ver. 2.0 was soon ready to go.

  Welcome back old friend!

I wasn’t sure how much damage it’d be able to inflict with how high the Onisha’s stats were, but it was better than nothing.

I recoated the Lycoph claws with paralytic poison and began to move again, leaving the mass deforestation project behind me.

There was no way I could defeat that thing in a head on confrontation; I had to soften it up first somehow.

Hmm, I wonder how my beastmen comrades are doing?

With a wicked grin, I began sprinting back towards the clearing, shouting at the top of my lungs, "Oi piggy! You’re never going to catch me with that room temperature IQ of yours! Just give up and lose some weight first!”

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.

I wasn’t sure how well my taunts would translate, but it seemed to get the message across as the Onisha turned and rushed in the direction of my voice.

Like a bull released from a pen, it charged through any obstacle in its way, leaving Onisha-shaped holes in the trees.

In the clearing, I quickly spotted the group of beastmen, still locked in combat with the tentacled creatures although both their numbers had significantly reduced.

Making my way towards them, I cheerily yelled, "Dear friends, save me! This fatty wants to eat me!”

The alpha beastman, with a look of confusion, angrily snarled, "What are you talking about you shameless bast-.”

Before he could finish his sentence, the Onisha burst into the clearing, drawing everybody’s attention with its massive figure.

Roaring to the heavens, it made a beeline straight for me.

The green skinned alien who had been indiscriminately setting everything on fire immediately engulfed it in a blazing pillar, giggling as it did so. This guy definitely had a screw or two loose.

Damn, was the Onisha dead just like that?

A dark figure suddenly sprung forth from the pillar of flame and tightly grabbed the pyromaniac.

  Splurt!

Like a balloon being popped, the green otherworlder vanished in a cloud of grey blood, raining down upon everyone.

The Onisha, appearing only slightly singed, continued to charge forward undeterred. I quickly hid myself among the beastmen, who futilely tried to get away from me.

Sorry, you’re not getting off that easy.

The beastmen, perhaps realizing the dire straits they were in, began to focus their attacks on the incoming Onisha. Likewise, the other groups clashing temporarily ceased their conflict and poured a storm of abilities down onto the brute.

It seemed that everyone had come to a tacit agreement that the Onisha had to be eliminated first if any of them were to have a chance to survive.

Earth spikes repeatedly materialized and left small wounds as thick tendrils sprouting from the ground sought to bind it. Patches of ice began to form on its body while an unknown acid-like substance slowly dissolved its skin.

Gradually, the Onisha’s advance began to slow as its movements became sluggish. Thick droplets of crimson blood, first a small trickle, soon began to flow in a steady stream from its body. Countless wounds, both major and minor, riddled its body.

With a defiant roar, the Onisha bellowed, “You insects dare obstruct me? Very well then, face the fury of the heavens!”

Uh oh, seems like we’ve entered phase 2 of the boss fight.

Soaring into the air, the Onisha raised its obsidian club high, the studded spikes suddenly glowing much brighter than before.

With a sharp crackle, a whirlpool of lightning began to form and gather around the glowing spikes, becoming almost blinding. The air grew thick and heavy, and even breathing became difficult.

As the maelstrom grew brighter and brighter, it became quite apparent something terrible was approaching. Without hesitation, every single person dropped their weapons and attempted to flee the clearing.

  But it was too late.

The Onisha rapidly descended from the sky, its now completely white club thrust downwards.

  CRASH!

A blinding flash of azure light struck the ground and formed a sea of lightning, completely submerging the clearing. The world seemed to freeze in time, as night became day and the earth trembled.

Like a giant serpent, the lightning greedily devoured all those who had dared to challenge its majesty.

The Onisha slowly emerged from the giant crater that had formed, showing the first signs of exhaustion.

It mattered not however; it had exacted its vengeance. Over half of the otherworlders had been instantly obliterated upon impact, leaving only charred bones behind. The rest had only barely survived with a combination of abilities, equipment, and sheer luck. Nevertheless, the majority of them remained in critical condition and teetered on the brink of death, ready to be snuffed out at any moment.

Blood flowed from my ears as a high-pitched ringing noise wailed incessantly in my head. Bits of my internal organs could be seen as I spit up blood with labored breaths. Still, I was in comparatively good shape; I’d managed to shield myself with the Lycoph arm right before the impact.

Groaning, I withdrew the last half of the Greater Potion and swiftly drank it all. The scorched black skin on the Lycoph arm split open as fresh tissue formed and my numerous broken bones fused back together.

I staggered to my feet as I gazed at the Onisha gradually approaching from afar.

“Repeat what you said earlier, little worm, if you dare.”

  Time for Phase 3.
