There were a few battles happening in the immediate area as the locals of the New Earth Union worked hard to protect the transport stations.
The Nascent Soul Realm Infernals that came with me disappeared in a flash and destruction began raining down on the thousands of vamps that were populating the City.
They ignored the battles in front of us and it was easy to guess why, there were only Qi Refinement enemies in the surrounding area.
Tch.
Though it was hundreds of them. I dashed out with my spear at the ready.
“Don’t stray too far but kill without mercy.”
The Ash Guard and the boys shot out to the surroundings.
“Flame Step.”
Flames gathered at the soles of my feet and the battlefield became a floor for me to dance on.
My spear was my partner and the sounds of the death were the music I moved to.
I whizzed and dodged as various means of attacks headed my way from all manner of angles.
Spears of blood, arrows, blood covered fists, claws, and there was someone that even spit some red acidic substance at me.
That last one was swiftly beheaded.
Ah.
I felt free.
Gone was the anger I felt when they attacked my City. Gone was the exhaustion I felt when I fought during the final days of the Tutorial.
In its place… a ravenous glee for battle. This was it! This is how I have always meant to live! I am definitely not a human…
I took a pause in my inner monologue to duck under a blade aiming at my neck, before promptly driving my spear into the flank of the attacker and burning them to ash right then and there, before spinning out of the way of further attacks.
Yes…I am definitely not a human. I’d probably be locked in a psych ward for thinking like this before the Tutorial.
Top of FormBut this is where I feel at home… this is where I belong.
A mad grin danced on my face as I could feel the flames within me react to the glee I was feeling.
It wanted to rampage too.
Then be my guest.
“Burn them all.”
Black flames poured out of my body like an onslaught of piranhas who smelled a small drop of blood in the water.
They washed over humans, they washed over the vamps, they washed over buildings, nothing could stop the advance of the Eternal Flame.
Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.
With me at the epicenter, my flames continuously rushed out, painting the world an ethereal black as various screams sounded out.
Some of the screams were from the vamps, while some were form the fighting force of the New Earth Union.
They were not familiar with my flames and I couldn’t blame them for being worried or scared.
But apart from perhaps a little warmth, they were unharmed.
The vamps on the other hand…
I couldn’t say the same for them.
By the time my flames receded and disappeared from the battle field, nothing remained to show they were ever present.
Silence descended in the area for a short moment before loud booms sounded from other areas in the City.
“Form up.”
The Ash Guard and the boys quickly gathered in front of me.
I took a look at them, then turned to look at the various survivors of the battle that just took place.
I say survivors because there were more than just a few bodies that weren’t moving anymore. All of the opponents might’ve been in the Qi Refinement Realm, but not everyone fighting them was.
Some of these people were still in Body Refinement, but it’s not like they had much of a choice. Fight for a chance to live or just roll over and die.
“Spread and conduct first aid to the ones who need it the most.”
They began moving and I turned to the rest of the people either sitting around scared from the experience they just went through, or nursing injuries they received.
“This war isn’t over! If you can move get up and help the ones who can’t! They are still enemies in the city!”
Almost everyone in the area turned towards me. Digesting what I just told them.
I’m not sure if I was expecting them to just get up and start moving exactly how I said to move, but what I really didn’t expect was for someone to react with anger.
“And who the hell are you huh?! Just show up out of nowhere and act like your some hero! Don’t think I didn’t see that it was you who caused the black fire thing to cover all of us! How do we know you’re not some alien working with the blood suckers?!”
Honestly this type of reaction genuinely caught me off guard. What the hell was this dude talking about. They were all fighting for their lives, with a good amount of dying. My people and I came to help save them.
And this is how he reacts.
I took a quick glance and I could see some of the others were seemingly agreeing with him, while a few seemed to be a bit confused by the situation, while a whole other group were doing as I suggested.
Don’t have time for this.
I brought my eyes back to the man and calmly raised my hand.
It was not a signal to the man or any of the other people of the New Earth Union or even the Ash Guard.
It was to Frian, who was rapidly approaching the man with a tight grip on his spear.
He stopped.
“Alright.”
That was my only response before taking off in a sprint to find other enemies in the City.
The boys and the Ash Guard stopped their actions and fell in line. I didn’t have time to get into petty arguments with foolish people.
They could fend for themselves.
From there, we moved around the City with speed but also with extreme carefulness. I did not wish to run into a Nascent Soul vamp, nor did I really want to run into someone at the Core Formation Realm.
Of course, we would have no choice but to fight if that was the case and there was no telling who would be waiting around a corner for us, but it didn’t hurt to be careful.
As we traversed the City, we came across more than a few battles in which we immediately participated in and helped to turn the tide in various different situation.
We were quite literally a hit squad moving with the sole purpose of claiming the lives of any vamps we came across.
Thankfully throughout the process we never came across another idiot like the man from the first battle.
And although I reveled in the battles I fought, I never let it distract me from accomplishing the task at hand. Kill vamps and help free the City.
No need to take too long with any battle if it could be avoided. Fight carefully, efficiently and without mercy.
At least that was the plan until we finally ran into something that couldn’t be avoided.
I suppose it was inevitable.
Only running into battles perfect for my level the entire time was eventually going to come to an end.
I supposed I would have to be grateful that it wasn’t someone in the Nascent Soul Realm.
Though fighting two people in the Core Formation Realm wouldn’t be easy either.
