Money Grubbing Saleswoman (Chapter 4)

  The combat equipment was placed in sections, each section with their own labels describing the general trend the stats of the clothing were inclined to.

  Full Plate Armour

  ++++DEF, ++HP, -AGI, -DEX

  Light Armour

  ++DEF, ++HP

  Leather Gear

  +DEF, ++AGI, +DEX

  Magical Robes

  +MP, +++MAG

  Hybrid Gear

  ++++???

  Mei reached out to lift one of the lighter looking full plate armours by a little out of curiosity. The armour only budged a little. That was heavy! Not to mention, being encased head to toe in a suit of metal seemed really uncomfortable to her. Definitely not choosing that.

  The light armour wasn't as heavy but still looked uncomfortable. The leather gear seemed to be fine, but she decided to continue looking around. The magical robes... well, the cloth was comfortable to the touch but she felt like the long skirt-like bottoms that almost touch the ground would hinder her movement. Any mage pants? No. Seriously? Did the devs not think there would be people who found moving around hard? Or maybe that was just game design to make sure mages don't run around as fast. Whatever the case, Mei was disappointed.

  So lastly, she looked in the Hybrid section. Here, the armour was the most unique. There a metallic armour that was somehow soft as silk. She was rather curious about what it's stats would be... Ah! Wasn't there a 'Scan' ability?

  'Scan!' she thought to herself.

  That's a nice set of armo- Wait, it's TEN THOUSAND GOLD?!

  Mei calmed herself down. Limitless was probably one of those games where the currency scaled crazily or something...

  She scanned most of the hybrid clothing afterwards, only to find that most of them were about as expensive if not more. Well, that sucked.

  In the end, she decided the outfit that looked the best was a set consisting of a black shirt and black jeans. The cloth as soft to the touch and seemed quite comfy.

  Well... that was certainly a strange passive. But it was still pretty powerful nonetheless. She liked the camouflage ability too, but not because of its use in sneaking around. It would be nice if she wanted to change her clothes into different colours.

  She picked up the outfit, walking to the counter.

  "Um... Can I have this one?" Mei asked the woman.

  "Chose the SpellSword gear, huh? Nice choice! Would you like me to sell you the actual SpellSword class scroll? Don't worry, I'll sell it at the same price as the Class Hall!" the woman gabbled cheerfully.

  This woman was so money-minded! Still, that wasn't going to stop her from buying it. She had read from the Limitless Wiki that while each player is allowed to have three classes, the second and third class will suffer from stat debuffs, 50% and 75% respectively. The SpellSword class was deemed by players as a top tier class so it was definitely worth getting it as the first class.

  "How much does it cost?" she asked.

  "It's only 70,000 gold!" the woman said with a smile.

  Mei was stunned for a second by the price.

  "Um... what happens if I fail to get all the required money in a month?" she asked.

  "That's simple! A quarter of all the money you earn will contribute to paying your debt."

  That wasn't as bad as Mei thought. Normally, if someone wanted to have the SpellSword as their first class, they would have to earn 70,000 gold without having a class! Losing a quarter of her gold for a while was definitely an easier handicap.

  "The debt doesn't increase if I fail to pay it off?"

  "Yeah, you'll just have a metaphorical small hole in your pocket until the debt is paid off." assured the woman.

  "Seems fine to me," said Mei.

  "By the way, are you interested in shoes, weapons and accessories?"

  The narrative has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the infringement.

  "Ah!" Mei realised she still did not have shoes. "Only shoes, thanks."

  "Aww come on! Don't you want an amulet of power or something? It's worth it!"

  "No thanks, just the shoes." Mei already felt like the debt seemed a bit too high. Shoes were as far as she was willing to go.

  "Sadly, I only have this pair of SpellSword shoes..." the woman said in a sad tone, but still with a grin.

  Mei looked exasperated. Was there such a coincidence in the world? The woman was obvious just looking to sell her most expensive wares.

  'Scan!'

  Mei heaved a sigh of relief. Luckily it only cost 2000 gold! It was still a lot to her, but after seeing prices like 70,000 gold, 2000 gold didn't seem that bad.

  "I guess it's fine," said Mei.

  "Aww... sure you don't want anything else?" the woman looked disappointed.

  "Nope."

  "Alright then. Here's your bill!"

  'Yes.'

  It was only now when the depth of her debt dawned on her. She had been thinking in terms of the actual cost, not the fact that she needed to pay double. Well, that sucked.

  "Hahaha! Great sale, great sale..." Alice laughed as she handed a box to Mei. "The stuff you bought is in this box. Wanna add as friends?"

  "Wait, you're a player?" Mei looked surprised.

  "I have no idea why you would think I am one." shrugged Alice.

  'I guess it's okay... Yes.'

  "You can message me if you have any questions about where to earn gold quickly. Oh, wait! You know there's a Portal at the centre of the town?" asked Alice.

  "I didn't know, but I have a map."

  "Well, you should go to the Portal later then. When you reach there, go to Greylands. The monsters there range from Lv1-50 so it'll be a great grinding spot for quite a while. There's a QuestStone there that gives a lot of great rewards too, so make sure not to waste it!" Alice began to ramble again.

  "Umm... Okay," said Mei.

  "Well, I'll be looking forward to my returns in a month then! Good luck!" Alice began to read her book again.

  So Mei walked out of the shop, still in her rags. But that wasn't going to bother her anymore. Now she had clothes!

  'Inventory!'

  The Box Of Goods appeared in her outreached hands as she willed it. She reached out to open the cover.

  'Equip camouflage gear and shoes! Learn SpelllSword class!'

  Wait... what? Mei was stunned. The Universal trait makes the equipment lower their level to your level? Sad. Mei was hoping to be an overpowered Lv1 destroying everything in a single hit. Now that she knew this would happen, she found her equipment not worth the price anymore.

  'Stats!'

  That... that was weaker than Mei had thought. The default stats for a human was 100 for everything except HP and MP, which was at 200. The SpellSword class and the equipment only buffed her up to this? The woman said that high levelled equips would let her destroy monsters her level with a lot more ease! Mei felt like she had wasted her gold. Wait, no. The gold was loaned to her. She was totally scammed.

  To think she would get scammed by someone in this world on the very day she worried about the people themselves getting scammed...
