He was still in the improvised 'camp'. There were a few people sleeping nearby. His clothes were completely drenched in sweat.
"What a nightmare..."
Anos wasn't exactly sure why he had such a dream. It all felt so real, far more real then his dreams in the past. This alone reminded him of great cultivators in his last life sealing evils and disasters.
This experience made Anos aware of something he had never thought about before.
"Seals..."
"If you lack strength. You can be sealed at any time."
Anos felt a bit of fear when he thought back to those mysterious means. He was completely awake now and felt it would be a pointless endeavor to try to go back to sleep.
So he meditated until the sun rose.
Soon everyone was awake. Some didn't get any sleep at all.
Anos spoke:
"Let's continue following the road."
He went with the same strategy. But soon, they came upon branching paths. There were many potential ways to go. But Anos had no idea which one would lead to Haven.
Anos started to rotate his God-Eye sutra. He wanted to peer into the future like the ancestor and see where all the paths lead. But he wasn't the ancestor.
He had no such ability.
Anos sighed. He had tried.
By the time they had reached these split paths. It was getting close to night again. They settled down again and waited for the next day.
But they weren't so lucky to avoid trouble.
A pack of wolves surrounded them.
Almost everyone in this group now had a weapon after looting those bandits. But it was too dark and these animals went off their instincts most of the time.
It would be impossible to handle them as easily as the bandits.
While Anos could pull them into a weak illusion. It was just that, it was only visual in nature. Whether it be sounds or smell. It didn't trick the senses in that way. At least, not yet.
When fighting humans. They will show fear when things they don't understand happen. It was the hesitation and fear planted into those bandits hearts that made them unable to act and become prone to panic.
But these wild animals wouldn't panic as easily. They only had two things in mind.
KIll! Eat!
Anos saw some of his fellow villagers get bit on the neck and shaken like ragdolls. Their bodies went limp as they tried to resist. One of them managed to stab their attacker in the eye.
But this only made them more ferocious.
A wolf jumped in the air and attacked Anos.
If you come across this story on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
But a fireball appeared in his hand and was launched at the wolf. He had tried his illusion trick. But it didn't cause the wolf to change targets.
Perhaps it was his scent? But this beast wasn't tricked!
Even a small injury can lead to death if infected. Anos wouldn't fight a wolf in close combat, even if he had weapons.
The wolfs fur was lit on fire as it was launched backwards crashing into the trunk of a tree.
The wolf dropped to the ground like a puppet whose strings had been cut. One of the wolves saw this and started to howl.
"Not good!"
It seems they were calling for reinforcements! Not only that. But the tree had burst into flames upon contact with the blazing wolf. The scene had become too chaotic.
The surrounding forest was becoming an inferno and smoke was rising into the sky. Anos hadn't tested his fireball spell much and didn't realize it was so powerful.
There is a difference between manipulating spiritual energy to produce an element versus using a spell. Spells are naturally more powerful.
Anos wanted to put out the fire by using the same technique he used to water his parents fields. But that move would completely drain him of spiritual energy.
The caravan wasn't initially only him and his villagers. It was a pool of people from nearby villages. But in this chaos, most had already died.
Edrea was fighting three wolves at once. He couldn't help but regret not practicing harder. If only he had reached the second level of martial arts.
Anos didn't know what to do. Everything was out of control.
A thought then appeared into his mind.
"Run away!"
But then he remembered that weird dream.
"How will I accomplish my goal if I run away at the slightest bit of danger!? Just what sort of cultivator am I?"
Anos imbued spiritual energy into his voice and howled copying the wolves. All of the wolves stopped their attack in confusion and looked at Anos.
Their eyes turned red as they charged at him.
Right as he was pounced upon by all of the wolves. A weird scene happened. He had vanished! No, that isn't right. He was standing in the air above the pile of wolves.
He had used God Step to ascend above his initial position.
"FIreball!"
He launched a fireball charged with all his spiritual energy below him. There was a explosion as the screams of this pack were heard.
Most of them survived. But they felt fear and retreated.
Anos fell down a few meters from the sky and landed on the ground which was still hot.
He felt a little dizzy.
When he would take care of his parents fields. He had gotten used to draining most of his spiritual energy. But this time, he didn't simply drain it.
He tapped it down to zero.
He passed out.
Edrea was exhausted. They had just survived an attack from bandits that killed not only their guide. But all the adults in this caravan. The horses were killed or let loose and the carriage became useless.
It was bad enough that they had to walk on foot.
But they were now attacked by wolves!? Why were they so unlucky?
"My father told me to be careful. But why is it so dangerous!?"
Edrea was hungry, thirsty and irritated.
He took this out on the wolves. But he could only handle a few. These things weren't intelligent and couldn't exactly stall to handle everyone on a one on one fight.
So there were casualties.
But right as Edrea was about to get overwhelmed. He heard the howl.
"Another call!?"
But then he noticed something weird.
It was Solis who was howling!
The wolves he was entangled with ignored him. They had changed targets.
"Solis is sacrificing himself?"
Edrea didn't know how to feel. But he rushed towards Solis to try to save him. But Solis was pounced upon by over a dozen wolves.
But then Edrea saw something impossible.
Solis stepped on the air! It was like he had triple jumped! The jumps weren't small either.
"..." Edrea was speechless.
A ball of fire appeared in Solis's hand and was launched below him. The wolves were injured and scattered in a retreat.
Solis fell to the ground and collapsed.
Edrea had been bitten a few times and was bleeding. Some of his skin had been torn and his clothes were not in a good state. But he heard something approaching.
"How unlucky can we be!?"
Whether it be more wolves or some other type of beast. Edrea felt that their trumpcard Solis was out of the fight for now. If he was even still alive.
He ran towards them and was happy to see that their chest was rising and falling. He was still breathing!
Edrea grabbed Solis and ran into a random direction into the woods. He abandoned the road and ran as fast as possible until everything became quiet.
"How did he do that? I've only heard those that reach the ultimate level of martial arts are able to control Qi... He would need to be at the seventh level of martial arts to pull that off..."
"No martial artist can make fire from nothing..."
Edrea was curious and confused. He felt bad about abandoning the few that had survived.
"I hope you all survive..."
