Chapter 3 – The Whispering Map

The fire crackled softly inside the Cabin of Echoes. Yume hovered just above Arata’s shoulder, her wings barely making a sound as they stirred the air. The strange, ancient map now glowed faintly before them, its surface shifting as if breathing.

Arata’s fingers trembled. “It changed again…”

Symbols had rearranged. Roads had vanished. In their place, glowing threads now spun outward like a spiderweb, each leading in a different direction—some toward familiar landmarks, others into blank space.

Yume’s expression tightened. “It’s reacting to your presence.”

Arata looked at her. “Why? What am I?”

Instead of answering, Yume floated closer to the map, her light brushing one of the glowing lines. Immediately, an echo rang out—whispers in an ancient tongue, soft and haunting. Arata’s vision blurred.

He saw a battlefield drowned in twilight. Eight kings standing behind a throne. A woman—radiant, terrible—holding a ninth key above her head. And then… silence.

He gasped and stumbled back. The vision faded.

“I saw the Queen,” he whispered. “She had the ninth key.”

Yume nodded solemnly. “The Key of Memories. It doesn’t just erase… it rewrites. That’s why the world forgot the truth.”

Arata clenched his fists. “Then I’ll find the other keys. I’ll break her lies.”

Suddenly, the cabin shook. Dust rained from the beams. The door splintered open. A figure in armor stood there, silhouetted by moonlight—tall, grim, with a silver crest on his chest.

  Sir Billion.

He stepped inside slowly, eyes locked on Arata. “You… You shouldn’t exist.”

Yume darted between them. “Wait—he’s not the enemy!”

Billion’s voice was a whisper: “No. He’s something worse.”

  To be continued…

Things are beginning to unravel for Arata. What do you think lies ahead in the path carved by light and shadow?
