Chapter Two: Shopping (1)

Exiting the school's premises from the South Gate, Nevis checked her bank account from her phone.

  [Bance: 120, 345 Verres]

Frowning at her bance, this was the savings she had after ten years of part time jobs from a young age. If she had other csses like warrior, cleric, or mage, it would be enough for her to use for half a year by herself. But, now that she had a wramoth with her, it would be good if it could st three months.

Sighing, Nevis tapped her phone, visiting a familiar website, 'Lamorac Tech'. The company that produced her voice synthesizer, and the company that is managed by the family of Jeanne Lamorac earlier. If she remembered correctly, they have a promo right now for voice synthesizers.

She scrolled down the promos to see if it was still avaible. After a few minutes of scrolling, there she found it. A promo to upgrade her voice synthesizer to one that uses mana and thought instead of slow typing. Now, the price is... 2,999 Verres!!

  Expensive.

But, it's worth the price for its convenience since it's synchronized with the user at a 100% rate. Meaning there's no dey with the user's thought to the articution of the voice synthesizer. Not only that, to be able to be used with mana, the materials used are also magic metals that guarantees its quality and durability. Ensuring that it will not be destroyed during a fight, between beginners that is.

Just as she was about to close the website, she saw a cuse at the very bottom of the promo.

  [Only avaible at physical store.]

Nevis frowned then turned to see when is the end date of the promo.

  [December 11, 3028, 22:00]

Her brows furrowed even more when she saw the date and time. The promo will end today at 10 PM, which conflicts with the schedule of her work ter. Still, with the mentality of not letting any bargain slip. Nevis went to her contacts and prepared to call her boss to ask for a day off.

  Ring~ Ring~

  [Plerhot]

'Video Call? Why is the manager calling now?'

Although a bit confused, Nevis answered the call to figure out the situation. A man appeared on the screen. Dressed in a bck suit, a cane in hand, and a monocle on his right eye.

"Nevis! Sorry for calling so te, but an accident happened with the work scheduled for today. The client and his partner fought, so tonight's work will be cancelled."

Okay. Any issues for the schedule ahead?" Nevis asked, her hand typing on the voice synthesizer.

This is also one of the reasons she wanted to switch to a mana and thought program one. Typing is too slow, it takes time to fully get your meaning across. That's why she bad always communicated using short and concise sentences. It's also a hassle to handle calls.

"No issues so far, just this one. I'll notify you if there are any changes. Other than that, the client sent 1,000 Verres for each musician as compensation."

"Can't you just send this announcement as a text message? Why do you have to call? Don't you know that Cellur Data is expensive?" Nevis typed furiously, even though the voice didn't fluctuate in tone. The frown on her face already showed her displeasure.

Though the notification of 1,000 Verres being deposited into her account eased that a bit.

"I just want to see your cute face, can't you let me have this moment?" Plerhot asked, his face showing a pleading smile.

Nevis didn't say anything and just ended the call. Then she typed on their chat, 'I'm busy, don't disturb me if it's not important.'

Change of pns, let's go to the mall first.

Not only does it have a branch of 'Lamorac Tech', it also had the stores for Nevis needs. Which includes the upgrade for her speaking tool, basic spell casting equipment for her elemental magic, and the most important of all, components for her mana engine.

Mana engines are a required tool for a person that wants to become strong. They are required to process the impure external mana from the outside world and brand it with her unique mana mark. The reason it was required is because humans are incompatible with the impure mana from the outside world. Thus, they need a tool to process it into something usable for them.

  Beep! Beep!

"Girl! Are you gonna come up or what?" The bus driver asked.

"Coming!" Nevis shouted, before taking off the capsule hanging from her belt. She tapped the wramoth beside her, causing her to be sucked into the cylindrical capsule. At the end, the capsule's see through gss showed a wramoth resting.

The capsule she used just now is a gift from the school, it's a low-end pet carrying device that was invented for monster tamers or simir csses to conveniently carry their partners around. There are other more advanced ones, but those are for powerhouses, and her's are just right for a juvenile wramoth to reside in.

[A/N: just imagine Monsuno capsules for this one.]

  .....

[Arriving at Glohstead Super Mall! Glohstead Super Mall!]

No matter how many times I see it, this building is still huge as heck. Albeit I've only seen it five times in my life.

Glohstead Super Mall, an ingenious beauty, a combination of business tactics and clever architecture. Built like a maze so that consumers spend more time and money inside. Listed as the top 1 worst pce to get lost in an official survey. Entering the mall, there are ten or so kids holding signs that said: Guide for 20 credits a day. Nevis walked towards them and asked.

"Which one of you knows the shortest route to go from Lamorac Tech, to Chiefoods, then to Arcane Inc?"

One of the kids raised their hand, Nevis nodded and paid ten credits first, she will pay the rest after the shopping trip.

  "Lead the way."

It didn't take long before the two arrived at Lamora Tech, Nevis told the kid to wait outside while she finished her agenda here. She walked into the store, heading straight to the table at the end of the store. The clerk working there seems to already knew her purpose, just one look at her voice synthesizer.

"If you're here for the promo for the voice synthesizer." The clerk took out a form and said. "Just fill up this form."

Nodding, Nevis took the form and filled it up, before handing it back to the clerk along with 2,999 Verres. The clerk looked at the answers on the paper, then encoded it into their company's system. Not long after, another clerk came from the back holding a big box.

"Would you like us to help you set up the voice synthesizer ma'am?"

  Nevis nodded.

  "That would be nice."

"Then, please come this way ma'am." The clerk gestured to the one of the booths inside the store.

Nevis followed the clerk into the booth and sat on the chair inside. The clerk then closed the curtain on the booth to provide privacy.

"Please wait for your technician ma'am."

Nevis nodded, taking out her phone to read the news while waiting for the technician.

[Breaking News: Multiple Tier 2 parties went missing in the Coatiheim Grove. Authorities are arranging a Tier 3 party to investigate.]

Coatiheim Grove? Isn't that the grove a few miles to the west of the city? A Tier 1.5 area actually caused multiple Tier 2 parties to disappear?

Levels, areas, and equipment are divided into different Tiers into this world, ranging from Tier 1 to Tier 9. Tier 1 being the lowest and Tier 9 being the highest, though it's said that there are levels above those, but, they aren't disclosed to the public.

  "Nevis?"

Hearing the familiar voice, Nevis turned and saw Jeanne walking in. Wearing a brown and bck mechanic uniform that matches well with her tanned skin and bck hair.

"What are you doing here, Jeanne?" Nevis typed, confused as to why this girl is here. Logically speaking, isn't this girl supposed to be training now? She definitely doesn't ck any resources, so why is she here.

"My parents decided to let me hone my skills here, since, not only are the equipment complete, this pce also had plenty of unique tech from different cities to fiddle with." Jeanne expined, her eyes secretly scanning Nevis' whole body. She swallowed her saliva, then immediately looked away.

"I never thought that you would be my first client."

Jeanne opened the box and prepared to set up the device, Nevis saw this so she took off her voice synthesizer. It didn't take long before the new voice synthesizer was equipped on her right arm.

"Now try to use it," Jeanne said.

Nevis nodded and tried to input mana into the device, then she felt a connection with the voice synthesizer. She knew what this was, it's the connection when equipping magic tools that was described in the books at the library.

"Hello? Can you hear me?" She asked, he voice uncertain, which is a vast contrast from the previous model. Her st one sounded the same no matter how she typed, but, this one can actually voice out the tone that she wants.

"Wow!" She couldn't think of any words to show her surprise, so she just said the one word that came to her mind.

"Amazing, right?" Jeanne asked with a smug smile on her face.

Nevis nodded, then stood up and gathered her things, preparing to leave.

  "Thanks."

"Wait!" Jeanne grabbed her hand, stopping her from leaving.

"What?" Nevis turned around and asked, "Do you have anything else to say?"

"Do you want to hear out my request now?" She asked, her eyes staring straight into Nevis'. "It's about the interschool competition on the st month of the school year."

  "Speak."

Jeanne's cheek flushed lightly when she heard her command. Nevertheless, she tried to calm herself, as long as Nevis accepted her offer, she'll have plenty of time.

"You know that the interschool competition is divided into individual and team division, right?"

  Nevis nodded.

"Although the prize for the individual division is good, it's not as good as the team division. Not to mention that you may not necessarily win the individual division."

"So, what do you want to say?" Nevis knew her point. "Stop beating around bush, shoot your shot."

"I want to bwe your teammate."

Did she just bite her tongue?

  "Hey."

"No, you didn't hear anything." Jeanne stopped Nevis from saying anything more. Her face flush red, as she looked pleadingly into the tter's eyes.

What's this strange feeling. Nevis thought as she looked at Jeanne's pleading face.

Her cheeks were puffed up and red that one couldn't help but want to tease her. Her eyes were watery as they were staring into Nevis' eyes. She couldn't help but grab Jeanne by the face and moved it closer, as if to closely observe every detail of her face.

Jeanne's brain bnked when she felt Nevis grabbed her face, even more so when the tter pulled her closer. Her heart raced as blood rushed to her head, she doesn't know what to do. The eyes that she wanted to look at her, is now looking at her with such an intense gaze. No amount of research could prepare her for what's happening now.

"That's a nice look you have there."
