Thirteen Hours, Twelve Minutes

  --

“Hey, Ron,” she called from the kitchen, “could you go grab some frosting?”

“Didn’t you get any from the delivery yesterday?” he called back.

She came into the room and leaned against the corner until he looked up. She was stunning. There was flour all over her apron, and she’d managed to get batter on the side of her nose, but she was still the most beautiful thing he’d ever laid eyes on.

“I thought I did, but either I forgot to add it to the order or they forgot to send any with the drone.” she said.

He smiled up at her from his chair, then got up when she sent him a sheepish look. “Well, I guess I’d better go in person so they can’t make the same mistake again. Do we need anything else, my love?”

“Oh, I love it when you say that.” She grinned up at him, and he pulled her closer. She put her head against his chest and closed her eyes for a moment, letting herself sway in his arms. “I don’t think we need anything else, but I think I’ll go lie down for a bit until you get back. All this trial and error has got me pretty tired.”

“Mostly error then, huh?” he interrupted. With a small chuckle, he pulled away to wipe the batter off her nose with a thumb, then stuck it in his mouth for a taste. “It’s kinda… salty.”

“Oh, stop it!” she said. She laughed and batted at his arm. “You try making a good cake mix from scratch when your husband won’t tell you what he wants!”

“I’ll leave that to you. You’ve got to learn somehow, right?” He laughed as he dodged the weak punch she sent his way, then caught her arm and pulled her in for a kiss.

“What kind of frosting do I need,” he said when he released her. He smiled as she blushed and looked away.

“Get chocolate-strawberry. If you won’t tell me what you want, I’ll just go with my favorite.”

“That works for me,” he said, and gave her a peck on the cheek.

She turned back to him. “Be safe, will you?”

  “I will. I love you.”

“I love you too,” she said. Then she smiled.
