CHAPTER 2 – Life After Death

“Hero… Hero… Hero… Please… Please save our future,” said a person wrapped in dazzling light who was shackled with chains emitting reddish black smoke.

“ Who are you asking?... the person you are calling can only lie down and watch the rise of our glory!! HAHAHAHA…” said someone who was surrounded by thick black fog.

The man who was being held in chains smiled. “Who said I only chose him? You were too focused on covering the sunlight but you forgot about the light of hope he spread!!”

The conversation took place on top of a pile of corpses and a river that was red with blood, but on the other side someone was staring intently at the two people.

A young man with a body that has been covered in blood with various wounds carved on his body. But the wounds did not stop him from continuing to walk with a body that seemed to have passed the limits that ordinary humans could withstand.

With weapons strapped to his hands and an undying determination he began to climb towards the top of the mountain of human corpses, “one more fight... just one more to absolute destruction!”

In a wide field with a cloudy orange sky as the roof, a child was sleeping under a shady tree, with a pile of cut green grass as a base and the caress of the gentle breeze making his sleep even deeper.

But in the middle of his sleep. “Hey!! Wake up!!! Agra!?...WAKE UP!!!”

A cute girl with her hair in a ponytail shook his body to wake him up, because there was no response from the child named Agra, he finally left, but after a while he came back pulling a cow.

"Pisa!! Wake up Agra!!" the girl ordered the cow. “MOOOO”

The cow sniffed Agra for a while and after finding his face the cow immediately licked his face.

“WAAA…hoek!! Pisa!! You!!!” said Agra who woke up from his deep sleep, he felt very annoyed especially when the cow licked his face while his mouth was wide open.

After Agra cleaned his face full of saliva he turned to a girl who was nearby. "Aruna!!! Why do you always wake me up with Pisa's saliva!!"

The girl who turned out to be named Aruna, instead of being afraid of Agra's anger, laughed in satisfaction. "HAHAHAHA... whose fault is it if it's so hard to wake up when you're sleeping?... look at the sky, it's time for us to go home!!"

Agra looked at the sky and what Aruna said was true, seeing the calm and beautiful scenery, Agra was stunned and stared at the sky with a deep gaze.

Seeing her friend in a daze, Aruna immediately kicked Agra's butt, causing him to fall forward. "What are you doing!? Quickly pick up these grasses, isn't your life fully recovered yet?"

Agra immediately got up and cleaned his clothes a bit. “Huh… just relaxing for a while, what’s wrong? Besides, I was the one who cut all this grass while you were just playing with butterflies.”

Aruna immediately glared at Agra while clenching her tiny fists, seeing her friend angry Agra quickly tied up the grass that she had previously cut and arranged it in a wooden cart.

"Piiiiii!!!...." after the two of them had finished arranging the grass bundles, Aruna whistled loudly. After waiting for a while, a horse was seen running towards them from a distance, and when the horse was in front of Aruna and Agra, the horse slowed down and stopped.

The horse immediately approached Agra and brought its head closer as if expecting his caress, and of course Arga complied with the horse's request. "Hahaha... you're so spoiled, huh?"

On the other hand, Aruna puffed her cheeks and her face looked sad mixed with jealousy. “huuup…hmmm!!! Agra!! Why do I always approach you!! Even though I am the one who often rides him and invites him to play!!”

Agra shrugged his shoulders and replied. “I don’t know?... maybe I treat myself better than you?”

“ehiiiek!!!” the horse neighed as if agreeing with Agra’s words.

Of course that made Aruna even angrier, she immediately got on the horse and patted its back. “Hmp!! If you continue like this I will not give you your favorite leaves and sugar cane stalks!!”

The horse immediately turned to look at Aruna as if it couldn't believe what she had just said, then it immediately lowered its head in desperation because it was helpless.

Agra, who saw the scene, just laughed while tying the rope used to pull the cart to his cow. After that, Agra immediately sat in front of the cart to control his cow to pull the cart towards the village where they lived.

“Agra…why do you always have a scared and anxious expression when you sleep? Do you always have bad dreams?” Aruna asked on the way.

Agra was stunned for a moment, he lowered his head and closed his eyes, his thoughts seemed to drift towards the deepest point of the memory that he had buried deep, even so, the memory continued to appear like a film that continued to play through his dreams.

Yes… that’s right, those were Agra’s memories in his previous life, a life where the world had been destroyed to the point that the ground couldn’t grow even a fingertip of greenery. For some reason, he still had memories of his previous life, but fortunately those memories didn’t affect his daily life in this new world too much.

A world where plants can still be found anywhere and animals still roam freely, if in his previous life he was born in a time of war with modern weaponry, now he was born in the era of kingdoms, an era where everything is still done traditionally and humans still depend on nature for their livelihood.

However, unlike the world he previously lived in, here what was considered a myth is a real thing where the practice of shamans and occult or mystical sciences is commonplace and even develops into a part of people's lives, not only that, in this world there is also a term for warriors who practice the path of martial arts who compete to be the most famous and stand at the top.

People in this world have developed knowledge and occult sciences for a reason, because out there there are creatures that we consider as myths and fantasies but are real existences, they live in the interior of the forest, on the tops of the mountains, and even in the depths of the ocean.

Among all these differences, there are actually also similarities between the two worlds, although not very accurate but according to Agra's estimates the kingdom he currently lives in only has 2 seasons with fertile land throughout the region and abundant natural resources, and for its location itself Agra does not really know because there are no accurate maps at this time, what he knows from the stories of merchants and traders is that in the northern part of this kingdom is a very large cape that leads to a very large land that has deserts, grasslands, mountains and so on, while on the east and west sides it borders directly on the Ocean, finally in the South it borders a continent with various unique animals that live there.

“Hey!! Agra!! Are you asleep again!? We’re almost there!! Look, the village entrance is right ahead…” Aruna said, interrupting Agra’s thoughts.

Agra looked ahead and found the village entrance which had a simple gate with a post underneath it guarded by 2 young men, although they were called guards they did not wear special clothes or anything, they only carried a machete on their waist, ordinary village clothes and a badge on their chest as a marker. yes, it was natural that they dressed like that because in reality this village was also in a remote area and rarely touched by the kingdom.

“You guys are late…” said guard A, who had a fierce face as he stopped the two children at the entrance to the village.

“Hmp!! What’s late? It’s still afternoon, not dusk!” Aruna replied.

“Hahaha… never mind, the important thing is that he doesn’t cause any trouble, you must be tired, Agra,” said guard B who looked more mature.

“Hey!! What did you mean just now!!” said Aruna who couldn’t accept it.

“Hahaha… as usual, sis,” Agra replied casually.

  “Hmm…okay then,” said guard B.

They were allowed to enter for a moment. Agra stared at the writing on the village gate which had the name Mandala Jati Village, the village where he was born in his very peaceful and serene life.

The two of them continued walking and occasionally passed and greeted the friendly and smiling villagers. Agra really enjoyed this atmosphere every day and never felt bored, while Aruna, on the contrary, felt a little pressured because many people always bowed to pay their respects.

“Why is your face like that?” asked Agra.

“huft… they always treat me like an important person, even though I want them to be normal,” he replied in annoyance.

“hihihi… isn’t it because you are the son of the village chief here that you are so respected?” said Agra.

“Yes, that’s true, but when I went with the priest to visit other villages, they didn’t treat their leaders excessively… you were the only one who was willing to interact with me normally,” Aruna grumbled.

“Hahaha… just think of it as their way of respecting you,” said Agra, trying to cheer you up.

"Yes, but , Father..." replied Aruna, but before she could finish her sentence, someone interrupted her.

"What's wrong with your father, Aruna?" A warm and gentle voice was heard from a man in very neat clothes who greeted them in Aruna's yard, both of them did not realize that they had arrived at Aruna's house or the house of the village head of Mandala Jati.

“Um… that’s it… there’s no priest,” said Aruna to the man who turned out to be the priest or could be called her father.

Unauthorized duplication: this tale has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

"Greetings, Wira," said Agra, who had come down and saluted him.

The village head named Wira smiled and stroked Agra's head. "Why are you always like this when we meet? We are not in a formal situation Agra, you can behave like this naughty Aruna"

“ROMO!!!” protested Aruna who was teased by her father.

“Hehe… it’s okay, sir, this is a sign of my respect for my elders, especially since you are the head of this village,” replied Agra politely.

Wira smiled broadly at the polite attitude of the child in front of him, he then reached into his pocket and took out 5 bronze-colored coins and gave them to Agra. "This is for today... thank you."

"No problem, demang," Agra accepted the money and did not forget to thank the village head Wira. After that, he immediately unloaded all the grass in the animal feed storage area and led the cows he had brought into the pen.

After that, he immediately said goodbye to the village head to go home while riding the horse that was previously ridden by Aruna. "Then I'll take my leave, Wira."

“Hmm… see you tomorrow Agra,” replied the village head, Wira.

"Be careful on Agra Street!! I will pinch you if you get hurt tomorrow and don't bring me to play!!" said Aruna

“Hahaha… just relax, you know that I am very strong, right?... HIYAH,” said Agra while kicking his horse’s stomach which made the horse run fast.

After Agra left, Aruna still stared at her yard.

Seeing his daughter dumbfounded, Wira nudged her as he turned to enter the house. “Still young, you’re already interested in boys…remember you’re only 4 years old!!”

Aruna's face turned slightly red and she immediately followed her father who was already a few meters away from her. "What do you mean, Father!! I'm just curious!!"

“hoo…curious about Agra ? It turns out you are really interested in him… huh.. this makes your father sad my daughter?” said Wira teasingly.

“No!! That's not it, Father!!” Aruna denied.

  “Oh… then what?” asked Wira.

Aruna thought for a moment then nodded. “Well, isn’t Agra an ordinary villager, right, Father? But why does he have a horse? Moreover, he is the only one who has a horse in this village, aren’t horses very expensive, Father? And only the city nobles, knights, merchants, and warriors have them?”

Wira now looked at his son with a little surprise, because at such a young age he could already think that far, but to shake off the surprise, Wira stroked his son's head and answered. "Actually, Father doesn't know either... Agra's father is a newcomer to this village, he said he was a hunter who wandered because his village was attacked and destroyed by robbers, so maybe the horse was a wild horse that he tamed while hunting."

Aruna nodded in understanding, she now walked into her house while half daydreaming, but in the middle of her daydream Wira quickly approached her daughter. "So... you're getting more interested in Agra, right?"

Hearing her father's words, Aruna turned around and found that Wira had quickly gone into the house, while Aruna, who was being teased, made an annoyed face and immediately shouted while running after her father. “ROOMOO!!!”

On the other hand, Agra spurred his horse between the village rice fields, he headed to the farthest rice field where the rice field directly bordered the forest, in the distance Agra saw a crowd of villagers walking together.

Agra's eyes immediately fell on a very graceful woman, who was carrying a basket full of plants, in her hands she was also carrying a jungle fowl which occasionally struggled to escape.

When Agra approached, one of the residents immediately told the woman. "Kirana, look, your son is coming..."

The woman named Kirana smiled and nodded. "Yes, that's right, that's my child."

“Hmp!! It seems like he’s finished teasing the princess, that’s why he’s so late picking you up,” said a woman next to Kirana sarcastically.

Kirana just smiled without responding to the words of the woman next to her, it was true that Agra was a little late in picking her up, usually he would come a few moments before Kirana finished work, but actually she was not entirely at fault because at this time it was indeed the time when the farmers went home and after a while Agra arrived and immediately got off his horse and approached his mother.

“Mom… sorry I was late picking you up,” said Agra while smiling and scratching his head which wasn’t itchy.

"Yes, it's okay, my child," said Kirana while rubbing Agra's head.

Agra immediately took the basket and the jungle fowl that Kirana had brought and hung them on the back of his horse, after which he helped his mother to get on her horse, before he got on his horse, Agra said goodbye to the villagers who had previously been with his mother.

"We're going home first, sir...madam... come on," said Agra, bowing his head.

The residents immediately returned Agra's nod, some also replied to his words. "Be careful, son..."

After that he immediately got on his horse and galloped away from the crowd, but there was someone who stared at Agra and Kirana as they walked away. "Hmp!! What a seductive woman, her son is also a seductress!!"

“Swari, you better watch what you say!!” said a resident who really didn’t like what the woman named Swari said.

“Huh? What did I do wrong? I only speak the truth,” Swari denied.

The residents there shook their heads and chose to remain silent and walked back home, they knew that Swari had always had hostility towards Kirana if asked why? Everyone did not know or even when it all started no one understood, Kirana herself was also a kind and gentle person she also did not like commotion and disputes.

“Hmp…!!! Even if I had a daughter, I wouldn’t mind having a relationship with a child as good and polite as Agra,” said a villager quietly, which was answered by several nods from the other villagers.

In another place, Agra spurred his horse following the river towards the upstream, both of them headed towards the village at the very end and a little further away, on a hill (yes, although it was not appropriate to call it a hill because the place was only in a higher place from where he came) stood a simple house but it had a fairly large yard and was planted with various types of vegetables.

Agra entered the yard of the house which was his own house when the sun was starting to set, he immediately helped his mother to get down and carry the basket in front of the house, after which he took his horse and jungle fowl to the back towards the pen which was right behind his house.

Behind his house there is also a large yard with lots of grass growing but the surrounding area is fenced with very sturdy wood, all of the grass is intentionally left to grow for his horse's food, besides that there is also an artificial pond that is directly connected to the river near his house.

In addition to the horse he brought, there were also some goats, chickens and ducks when he entered his pen, without waiting long Agra put his horse in and put the jungle fowl in the pen after that he locked all the pens and had been locked tightly and safely he just turned around and checked around, Even though it was on a hill, near Agra's house there was an abundant spring, although it was not big or fast but the spring continued to produce water throughout the year, by utilizing the flow of water Agra's house could get a supply of clean water for daily life and as irrigation needs for their livestock and small gardens, but with the note that they still bathed and defecated in the river.

After that, he checked outside to look for eggs that might have been dropped by his livestock. Luckily, he found 2 fairly large duck eggs and after washing them in the artificial pond.

When he entered the house he immediately showed the two eggs to Kirana. "Mom!! Look!.. I found the eggs behind"

Kirana, who was in the kitchen, saw her child and accepted the egg. "Smart... OK, how about we eat eggs tonight?"

"Fun!! Okay mom!" Agra said enthusiastically.

"Okay then, go clean your body!!" Kirana said.

Agra nodded then ran to get a cloth and a torch and went straight to the river, even though it was dark, but in the river there was a simple hut that was surrounded by woven coconut leaves and wooden planks underneath it was also a river that had been dug and shaped in such a way that it was comfortable to use and as we know this is where the Agra family's bathroom is.

Agra, while heading to the bathroom, did not forget to light several small torches as lighting in case anyone wanted to go to the bathroom. He quickly took off his clothes and jumped into the river and he enjoyed it so much that he ignored the cold that slowly entered his body.

After finishing, he immediately went back into his house, secretly he also put the money he had earned in a hole in the floor of his house (yes, even though it was actually a hole covered with wooden planks because Agra's house was still built on dirt) , at the same time Kirana had finished making something and put it in a bowl. "Are you finished, son? Come here and give this herbal medicine to your father."

Arga nodded, he took the bowl and approached a room in his house, when he entered the room, someone was lying on the bed with a pale face, it was clear that he was sick, Agra approached the man.

“Father?... are you sleeping?” said Agra while checking on his father.

The sick man opened his eyes and turned his head. “hooh… no my son, Father just closed his eyes”

The man woke up and sat down leaning against the woven bamboo wall behind him, Agra quickly handed him the herbal medicine made by his mother. "Here, Father... drink it."

The man named Bima was previously a migrant as Wira said, in his daily life he was a hunter while his wife Kirana took care of the house, but in the past year his health continued to deteriorate for no apparent reason so Kirana had to work hard to support her family, Agra actually wanted to help with the work but Kirana immediately refused because she was still too young and the place she worked was on the edge of the forest which was prone to attacks by wild animals.

Finally, Agra just quietly went to help find money by looking for animal feed for the village head or anyone who needed his services, but even though he lived in the midst of these difficulties, he could still be grateful and never complained, because his life in this world felt very peaceful and calm, unlike in his previous life where even if he wanted to drink, he had to use extra energy.

After Bima finished drinking the herbal medicine, Agra took the bowl back, then he moved the table near Bima's room and arranged several plates there, not long after that Kirana brought dinner to them.

"Let's eat first," said Kirana with a smile.

  "Okay, Mom," said Agra happily.

Their dinner was very simple, just boiled corn mixed with vegetables, roasted sweet potatoes and 2 boiled eggs, Kirana immediately shared the food with her husband and children.

Agra greedily ate all the food cooked by his mother, even though the food actually tasted a little bland, he could still add more because he remembered that he had great difficulty eating proper food throughout his previous life.

Bima and Kirana themselves saw Agra who was very polite, devoted, and never complained and were very grateful for her presence, Agra's presence between the two of them became a very valuable meaning for the presence of the two people.

After finishing dinner, Agra went outside to enjoy the night atmosphere, the cold but fresh air became his friend to enjoy the beauty of the creator, the stars and the moon that watched him play with the fireflies flying in his garden even though in the body of a child with the soul of a grandfather, but still his body which was also a child also affected his mentality, the mentality of a child who only had memories of his previous life which only made him wiser and smarter when compared to other people, When he was busy running here and there a voice called him.

“Agra!? Don’t go too far” Agra turned to the source of the voice and found that his father Bima was calling him, knowing that his father was sick he immediately approached him.

“Father? Why did you go out? Father is still sick,” said Arga worriedly.

Bima smiled then sat on a bamboo chair in front of the house. "It's okay... Father is not that weak"

Agra shook his head and went in and out, carrying a cloth that he usually used as a blanket. "This...it's better for Father to use this blanket if you want to go out"

Bima smiled and accepted the blanket from Agra. “Thank you, son.”

After that, Agra did not play again but sat with his father enjoying the evening atmosphere. After a while, Bima, who was staring at the sky, began to sink into his subconscious, digging up old memories.

“Have you never thought that we have a difficult situation like this because of a sickly priest like this, Agra?” Bima asked suddenly.

“Not really… It’s not that I’m happy that Father is sick, but I’m actually happy because I can walk around the village while Mother is working, because previously Mother always forbade me from going here and there,” replied Agra.

“Hoo… isn’t it because you can collect some money from your work here and there and buy market snacks?” teased Bima.

Hearing his father's words, Agra immediately panicked and immediately hugged his father. "Father!? Father, how did you know!? Please, Father, don't tell mother."

“hehehehe…” Bima laughed softly as he stroked little Agra’s head. “… all men have their own secrets and ways Agra… Father doesn’t forbid you as long as you don’t do things that harm other people and you should immediately find another place to hide your savings.”

Agra widened his eyes in disbelief that his father knew that much. “Father… you knew? How is that possible!?”

Agra now immediately became silent and thought hard to determine another place that he could use to hide all his savings, even though he knew that his mother was very kind, but when it came to Agra's naughtiness, then his mother could be a very scary person.

“Agra… are you interested in becoming a traveler or a warrior?” Bima said suddenly.

“Erm... why, Father?” asked Agra curiously.

Bima smiled as he looked at the night sky full of stars. "It's okay... it's just that my father feels that your destiny in the future will go through a very difficult path, and your father is not actually a hunter."

“Erm… yes, Father, I will transfer my savings,” replied Agra, not making sense.

Bima turned his head and just realized that Agra had fallen asleep soundly, seeing his son sleeping so peacefully made Bima smile softly but behind that smile Bima's eyes looked far into the future when his son would find out the truth about his secret.

“AGRA!!! WHERE DID YOU GET ALL THESE PIECES OF MONEY?” Kirana shouted so loudly that it woke Agra up and brought him back to life instantly.
