I get the same 3Str, 3Cons, 3End, 2 Dex and 1 each of Int, Wis, and I put both free points in Endurance giving me 5 this round.
With my new gear bonuses and stats, I’m up to 460 health and 390 Stamina.
I also see that now that the UI is active, I get a notification for each kill. The notifications say that I got bonus XP for killing monsters 10 or more levels above me but it doesn’t say exactly how much XP each kill gives me. That doesn’t seem quite right.
“Scarlett, how do I tell exactly how much XP each mob gives me?”
The simple answer is you don’t. There are a variety of factors that go into how much XP a kill gives, but you will develop a feel for how much a mob will give you. You were already ? of the way to level 8 from your first two kills and these four kills of mobs, all at least 13 levels above you got you just a few percent into level 8.
“K, The System does what it wants then.”
I loot the bodies and between the four I find 26 gold and 180 silver. There’s also 12 ration bars and 10 clean water. I pick up the bow and 8 arrows. I don’t have the bow skill and I never shot one in my past life, so my quick attempts at shooting an arrow look pretty stupid. On my 5th attempt, I cracked the bow. The goblin archer either wasn’t as strong as me despite being a bunch of levels higher or he didn’t pull the bow all the way back. Whatever the reason, I throw the bow away but keep the arrows.
The room I’m in has 4 doors leading out of it. The one I came from and then one on each wall. I can’t be certain that the one on the opposite side is the one that leads into the wider dungeon, but that’s what I’m going to guess is true. Hopefully, the other two will lead to an armory or maybe even a treasury.
I choose the left door and walk over to it. I only saw a lock on the boss's bedroom, but it was obviously unlocked. The other rooms just have doors with a ring handle on them.
I do my same switch my falcata to my left hand and put my mace away and quickly pull open the door.
There’s no one on the other side and all I see is a room with a shelf just stocked with Dungeon ration bars and water skins on the left and various basic potions on the left. 25 each of healing, mana, and stamina.
“Scarlett, where is all of this stuff coming from? There are more than a hundred of each here.”
The System replenishes this room every day. This is necessary to keep the goblins alive since they cannot leave their floor.
Well, I guess that makes sense. I take everything! I realize I haven’t even tried one of these bars or the water yet, so I decide I have a feast here.
It’s not exactly a culinary treat, but it’s not bad either. Really just tastes like a granola bar. I can definitely taste oats and honey. Maybe some sort of nut as well. I take a drink of water and it is cool and tastes just fine. For some reason this is a big deal to me. I hate drinking lukewarm water and I was also worried the water would taste like leather. I wouldn’t really mind if the water was cold, but I’d hate to have to rely on warm, leather tasting, water.
I leave the room and go to the room on the opposite side. When I open the door, I see a sleeping goblin who is laying in a pile of filthy blankets on the floor. He slowly opens his eyes and stares at me. He doesn’t take any action at first, but I can see his eyes looking around. I don’t see any weapons on him and I remember I haven’t equipped my weapons after eating either.
I use Identify and see; Larry - Level 22 Quartermaster. I decide now is as good of a time as any to see if I can reason with any of the goblins and I say, “Hey there buddy, can you understand me?”
He just looks at me, so I say, “I won’t hurt you if you just get up and we can talk.”
I hold out my right hand and he just stares at it. He hasn’t attacked me yet, so I take that as a good sign. I lean towards him a little closer, and he smiles.
He reaches towards me and I think he’s going to take my hand so I can help him up.
He chooses this moment to summon a long narrow blade into his hand and he skewers my right hand. Holy fuck! I have been punctured twice now in like 15 minutes!
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Once again, I go into a blinding rage. I summon my mace and activate Unerring Strike and crush his skull. I try to activate it a second time and nothing happens, it’s greyed out because of the cooldown timer, but he’s already in terrible shape. His brains are leaking out. I hit him again and then I just see red for about 30 seconds. He’s definitely dead now.
This time I pull the dagger out of my hand quickly and just drink a healing potion to see what it’s like. It tastes like awful cold medicine and the healing takes a couple of minutes to fully work, but I’m all healed up once it’s done. I notice that any vestiges of a hangover are gone as well.
“Scarlett, do healing potions cure hangovers?”
They do indeed. A healing potion will cure any injury you have sustained that is still healing if you drink the potion.
“What if my leg gets chopped off?”
If you can reattach it quickly, before you bleed out, then it is possible to reattach. You will not grow a new leg though.
“Will they cure diseases as well? What about cancer?”
Healing potions will cure diseases, assuming the diseases have not been created to circumvent healing potions.
“Holy fuck that’s a thing?”
Of course Brandon. How else would someone wipe out a population with a plague when healing potions are widely available?
Judas, that sounds fucked up, but it doesn't surprise me. I’ll worry about the vagaries of healing potions and diseases later.
“Scarlett, I blacked out with rage again. That’s the second time in a row. Pre dungeon, I wasn’t exactly prone to black out rages, so it’s not something I brought with me. Why isn’t the emotion blocker working fully?”
It is definitely irregular, but I wouldn’t worry about it right now. You are in the armory, so you should see if it contains anything that will be of use to you.
“That’s not reassuring Scarlett.’
I do a quick assessment of the room and see at least 5 full sets of chain-mail sized to fit a goblin. The boss was the largest of the 6 goblins I’ve seen so far, but only by six inches, and maybe forty pounds. All the goblins have looked well fed, so they’re clearly getting a regular refresh of those ration bars and water, at the very least.
I loot Larry, another fucking regular name, and in his inventory is 20 gold and 5 rations and 3 waters. He also has 2 basic healing potions. I have an enormous stack of rations and water already. Well over a hundred of each.
Laying on the ground next to him is the dagger he stabbed me with. I identify it and it says: Well Made Quillion Dagger. It’s not magical and doesn’t show any levels. I throw it in my inventory. Larry’s gear isn’t showing in his inventory, but he’s clearly wearing good quality leather armor, now liberally spattered in blood and brains. I guess I’ll have to strip him if I want that gear. I’m not quite up for that and an Identify shows it’s just regular leather armor so I’m not taking it.
I go up to the chain-mail that is on stands and ?as long as I grab the stand, it’s all sitting on, I can just take the armor and stand into my inventory all at once. That’s certainly handy.
There are a few weapons racks containing some short swords as well as 1 handed axes and some spears that are only about 5’ long. I assume they’re goblin sized. I take the entire racks into my inventory. There is a nice non-magical round metal shield that is about 30” in diameter and I decide to move things in my hot button item slots around so that I have the shield.
The hot buttons look like this;
- Standard Healing Potion 2. Basic Stamina Potion 3. Unbreakable Flanged Mace 4. Unbreakable Falcata 5. Good Quality Round Shield
Against the back wall there’s a chest and I get excited as I identify it; Dungeon Treasure Chest. It’s locked and I don’t have the lockpick ability, so I look at Larry’s body but don’t see the key.
I decide to go back to the boss’ bedroom and notice that he wasn’t completely naked. He had the key on a string on his neck. I’d say this confirms that when I get the chance to loot a body, it doesn’t include any gear they are actually wearing.
I go back to the armory and unlock the chest, hoping for some more sweet gear and gold. I am a little disappointed when I open it, and there’s not a hoard of gold and jewels or a bunch of magical gear. Why would there need to be? If everyone has an inventory, they don’t need to worry about carrying around a bunch of gold.
Inside is 100 gold, a single ring and a wand, as well as a tiara. The ring is Tier 2, gives +25 Wisdom, and I still have open slots, so I equip it. My Wisdom is a whopping 9, so it only gives me an extra 4, but I assume any extra helps me when my stats are so low there.
The Wand is; Wand of Ice Shard Tier 3 level 50. It has +10 Wis, +10 Int, +10 Con and contains an Ice Shard Spell that costs 100 mana to cast and has a 30 second cooldown, but the Ice Shard does 100 damage per attack if the enemy doesn’t have ice resistance.
Alas, it requires Proficient level in Wands to use. I imagine it’ll sell for quite a bit at the very least.
The Tiara is interesting, and I might consider wearing it in certain circumstances at the moment. It certainly won’t provide any real protection, but it has some stats and a spell I could use.
The Consort’s Tiara Tier 3 Level 50. +10 Wis, +10 Int, +10 Con. Spell Damage Shield, Costs 100 mana to cast. Will provide a damage shield that will absorb 100 points of damage. 2 minute cooldown. Does not interfere with any other shield spells.
It’s quite pretty as well haha. It is silver and builds up in the front with a purple jewel set at the peak.
