Interlude III: Rin – “Stillness in the Hallway”

  The apartment was quiet again.

Rin stood in the hallway between the bedrooms, one hand lightly pressed against the wall like she wasn’t sure if she wanted to move forward… or lean back.

  Aurenya’s door was closed.

Not locked. Not silent. Just… breathing on the other side.

There had been no dramatic conversation after they got home. No tearful confession. Just warmth, and stillness, and a sense that the world had cracked open a little more.

Rin touched the phone in her pocket. The old message was still there — the one from her ex. The one she sometimes read when she needed to feel the weight of something real.

But tonight, she didn’t open it.

  She let her hand drop.

And walked back to the kitchen.

Not everything had to be solved tonight.

But she’d chosen not to forget.

And now she had to carry that — carefully.

  But not alone.
