Chapter 48. Facepalm

The group stayed in the living room for a while digesting the new information. Once they were sure they had gone through all of the news, Darío decided to ask something that was bugging him.

“Mili, can I ask if we are going to try to develop this Ranked alcohol? No memory loss and no hangover? I would love to try some.”

“We will try, now that we do that it is possible we will start researching it. Not only with alcohol, but it might be possible for other crafts too. After all, we know that there are Ranked blacksmiths too. We already started researching that one too. But we still had no results.”

“Did you try using World Energy?” Rafael asked.

“Not really, why do you ask?”

“Well, it is the big resource that they have and we didn’t. I also spent most of the week learning how to control it and it seems really versatile.”

“That is actually a good idea, but we would have to find craftsmen willing to work with us who have a good Energy Stat.”

“I would recommend having 5 in the Stat at the very least. The Trait is a game changer in every Stat,” Emilio added.

“Maybe we can find some craftsman willing to teach?” Milagros asked.

“If you are teaching someone, can I be the one learning? I would love to learn how to craft drinks,” Amelia asked.

“You what?” Emilio exclaimed. “Why would you want to craft drinks? You are absolutely not allowed to drink!”

“Why not? Given what you said about Ranked alcohol I doubt it would be bad for me. Even if it is supposed to be, I doubt it will do me anything in the long term with a Body at 13.

“I can even raise my Vitality in the future. Not only that, but I would also be ideal to try it out. You will find no one with a higher Energy Stat than me and the 4 points in Mind would make me learn faster.”

“She does have a point here, but we really don’t know the consequences of children drinking Ranked alcohol,” Milagros agreed with Emilio.

“You know what? I will ask Tuor, if it has some effect on you, you will not drink. And I want your promise,” Emilio proposed.

“Sure, I promise,” Amelia said smiling when she realized that she was allowed. “Does that mean that I can learn how to do it even if I don’t drink?”

“Go convince your mother,” Emilio threw the problem to his sister, if she allowed it, it was her problem.

Amelia went to call her mother to convince her and the rest kept talking.

“Should we share our Stats for this round? We do have a bet going on. I think I won it without a doubt, but we should still share them,” Emilio inquired.

At least I will not be losing anything. I’ll have to add this one to the long list of bets I’ve won.

“Mom, didn’t you have another bet with Rafael. You still didn’t say how many Stats you got,” Victoria added, and Milagros laughed at the comment, but both of the teachers fulminated her with their looks, it was evident that the woman knew more than anyone else on that matter.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

“What are you laughing about there?” Gabriela asked, pretending to be angry.

“You also didn’t say how well you did!” Rafael added.

“Haha” Milagros was still laughing “It would have been hard to do worse than you, no offense. I got 2 points in Vitality in the Trial.”

“Now, I really want to know how you did," Emilio said to their teachers, “I got 6 Points in Mind, overflowing some of the extra ones to Body.”

“Wow, not bad at all,” Darío encouraged him, “Your niece makes you look bad, but you are quite the talent here. I still got nothing. I tried the Energy one this time.”

“I got 1 point in Vitality,” Victoria said.

“I have 1 in Vitality too,” Her father added “It is not too outstanding considering I started with 1, but I feel really great.”

Now that everyone else shared their points it was the turn of the teachers. Gabriela decided to start even if she was reluctant to talk. “Ok, I got no points. I couldn’t even sense that fucking Energy. You won the bet.”

“For real? It’s not that hard to sense”, Rafael shared his experience given that he already got points in Energy on his first Trial. “Actually, I shouldn’t really talk like that as I couldn’t get a point in Mind either. We are tied here.”

“It seems that we really have to depend on Emilio, or even better on Amelia, in the future,” Gabriela turned towards the uncle and niece pair, “Please protect my family as best as you can.”

“I have to say the same, please protect Darío,” Rafael added.

“Don’t worry I will do the best I can. After all, you are giving your all to teach us,” Emilio promised.

“Talking about that, I spent most of the week getting used to using the World Energy. Should I start training Amelia on how to use it?” Rafael asked.

“Um, sure. It is a good idea given that I have no idea on how else to find a teacher on World Energy,” Milagros agreed.

At that moment, Amelia came back almost jumping from happiness. “Mom says that I can, as long as I don’t drink until we know it is safe.”

“I will need that in writing and signed,” Milagros anticipated any legal problems for the future.

  “I’ll tell her.”

“Is Nic all right over there?” Emilio asked.

“Just missing us. She got two points in Mind and is considered talented and a target to be trained. They are finally getting some training done,” Amelia informed them.

“Is all your family talented?” Alberto asked “Do you have anyone else to contact and see how they are doing?”

“It is just us,” Emilio explained. “By the way Ami, why did you put two points into Mind?”

“Because you said I needed it, and it should be my next Trial.”

This comment made both teachers facepalm.

  “What? Didn’t you say that?”

“Ami, as you are now your next Trial will be Vitality. You have to optimize the lower Stats first to do better and get more Coins.”

Amelia was paralyzed at that reasoning, she really didn’t think about that when she was assigning the points.

“At the very least, it is not that bad. Both of those Stats had the same points originally and we don’t know if she is going to perform better in Vitality.” Gabriela tried to make things better.

“That’s true. And at the same time, having 4 Mind will make your training more effective. We can work with this,” Rafael added.

When she heard her teachers, Amelia calmed herself a little. She was still ashamed of what happened, but she didn’t commit any huge mistake.

“I don’t understand why Tuor didn’t stop you. Did you tell him your reasoning?” Emilio asked.

“I did, but he didn’t stop me, he just…” Amelia shut herself up as she realized what happened. She had received her warning and had just ignored it.

“He just what?” Victoria asked, looking puzzled at her friend that was as red as a tomato.

“Coughed…” Amelia explained, while remembering what his Uncle said about his first Trial, when Tuor used this exact method to bypass the System restrictions.

This time it was Emilio who facepalmed. He really didn’t have anything else to add. She had received her warning and ignored it.
