Chapter 0054 - Gojo Explains Domain Expansion

Using a high level enemy as teaching material and giving on the spot instruction was standard practice at Tokyo Jujutsu High. Makoto was fully putting the idea of learning through action into practice.

It was rare for a teacher to be this self aware, and the content was priceless knowledge that was very likely unique among Jujutsu Sorcerer. The students stopped complaining and listened carefully.

“Domain Expansion, simply put, is using Cursed Energy to construct an area around you, forming an Innate Domain with an applied Cursed Technique.”

“Teacher.” Yuta Okkotsu raised his hand, just like in a normal class.

“Hi, Yuta.” Satoru Gojo stayed completely in teacher mode.

  “What is an Innate Domain?”

“We have to start from there, huh.”

Satoru Gojo then remembered that Yuta Okkotsu had started halfway and was different from the others who had foundations. He rubbed his chin and spoke.

“Innate Domain is the full name of Domain Expansion. You can understand it as a person’s inner world. Some also call it the world of cognition, or the place where the soul exists.”

“In theory, all humans, and intelligent beings like Rika Orimoto and Panda, have an Innate Domain. But those who can truly discover it and become aware of its existence are extremely rare.”

“Then how do you become aware of it?” Panda raised a paw.

As an Cursed Corpse, his growth path was different from that of a Jujutsu Sorcerer. When he finally encountered common ground, he naturally wanted to grasp it.

“It’s similar to Black Flash. As long as you have the intent, that’s enough.”

  “…”

“What’s this, you’re not even complaining?”

“Because Innate Domain really is something this subjective. Everyone’s inner world is different, so the process of awareness, understanding, and insight can never be the same.”

Akira actually wanted to complain, not because it sounded like empty wisdom, but because of the strange masochistic side of Satoru Gojo that seemed uncomfortable without being scolded. He kept it in his head though, since the situation was not appropriate.

“Correct.” Satoru Gojo raised a finger. “But there are still some tricks. Talking to your inner self, or using more aggressive methods like intense self suggestion. Imagine your future self, imagine what you look like after breaking your limits. Some sorcerers I know advanced to Grade One that way.”

“Can people really do that?” Maki Zenin asked. “It sounds like thinking I want to be stronger and then becoming stronger, like a fairy tale.”

Satoru Gojo pointed upward. “After seeing a world like this, do you still think fairy tales don’t exist? Jujutsu is inherited and engraved in the body at birth, but don’t forget where Cursed Energy comes from. Even ordinary people who cannot see Cursed Spirit possess Cursed Energy. The difference is only in how much they have and whether they can use it.”

Maki Zenin fell silent. She realized her thinking had been too limited.

She also recalled one of Akira’s ideas. In a sense, competition among Jujutsu Sorcerer was also a competition of imagination.

“By the way, if you have time, you can try sitting meditation or mindfulness. Quite a few Jujutsu Sorcerer tried it in history, but I can’t say how useful it really is.”

“Then how did you do it?” Maki Zenin blurted out, then immediately regretted it.

From Satoru Gojo’s expression, it was clear that aside from Reverse Cursed Technique, everything he did was basically effortless.

This time, Satoru Gojo did not turn it into empty bragging and continued teaching.

“Becoming aware of your own Innate Domain is only the first step. Materializing it, releasing it, and attaching a Cursed Technique is the real Domain Expansion. Most Grade One sorcerers get stuck at this stage.”

“Materializing an Innate Domain is not difficult. As long as you have enough Cursed Energy, enough imagination, and solid barrier techniques, even Grade One Jujutsu Sorcerer and some Grade Two Jujutsu Sorcerer can do it.”

“The problem lies in attaching the Cursed Technique. Innate Domain exists on a subjective level. To interfere with reality, transformation through Cursed Technique is essential. But using a Cursed Technique within your body and attaching it to an Domain Expansion or barrier are completely different. An Domain Expansion without a Cursed Technique only looks impressive. It is not very useful in combat and will severely drain Cursed Energy.”

“Attaching a Cursed Technique requires a deep understanding of its essence, so it can be transformed and extended in the most suitable way. For example, my Cursed Technique, Infinity, has gravity as its basic manifestation, Cursed Technique forward rotation, Blue.”

With a casual grab, Pancham, which had been lying on Panda’s shoulder, was pulled over without any resistance.

“If I reverse it with Reverse Cursed Technique, it becomes repulsion. That’s my most commonly used Cursed Technique, because the positive energy from Reverse Cursed Technique is more lethal to Cursed Spirit. Cursed Technique reverse, Red.”

This time, there was no special demonstration. Satoru Gojo had been using repulsion throughout the lesson anyway, clearing the field again and again.

“So here’s the question. What kind of form do you think my Domain Expansion takes?”

“Control over force? Like a combination of universal pull and repulsion?” Yuta Okkotsu guessed.

“That’s what I thought at first too, but unfortunately, that’s wrong. If it were like that, I wouldn’t need to expand Domain Expansion at all. Because of Six Eyes, I don’t have to worry about the precision of my Cursed Technique.”

Satoru Gojo slightly bent his finger. Yuta Okkotsu suddenly felt pain on his forehead, and when he looked up, he saw one of his hairs being pulled out. It was a white strand mixed among his black hair.

“Still can’t figure it out? I’ll reveal the answer. The solution is in advanced mathematics, and it has nothing to do with force at its core. If Makoto wants to know, you can come in and experience it yourself.”

“Forget it. Just looking at your expression tells me it’s not a pleasant experience.”

  Akira objected immediately.

Among all experiences, Satoru Gojo’s Domain Expansion ranked first on the list of things he never wanted to try. Unless there was an absolute necessity, he would never touch it.

“Hey, don’t be like that. Cooperate with me a bit.” Satoru Gojo actually started acting cute.

Akira almost lost his composure and barely held back the urge to punch him while he was not using any kind of shield. “Stop messing around and say something useful. Like what advantages Domain Expansion has, and how to deal with Domain Expansion.”

Akira knew this knowledge well, and he also knew the background of Satoru Gojo, but knowing it himself did not mean the other students did. When it was time to cooperate, Akira never held back, which was exactly what a qualified assistant instructor should do. After guiding the discussion just enough, he quietly stepped aside and handed the stage back to Satoru Gojo.

“The advantages of Domain Expansion are actually not that many, just two points,” Satoru Gojo said calmly. “A boost in status within the environment, and guaranteed hits. Both are easy to understand.”

“Your own Innate Domain combined with your own Cursed Technique naturally creates the environment best suited for you,” he continued. “Since the inside of Domain Expansion is completely covered by your Cursed Technique, the opponent is effectively inside a completed technique, so dodging is impossible.”

“The essence of my ‘Holy Shield’ is the paradox of ‘Achilles and the tortoise,’” Satoru Gojo added. “Because Domain Expansion exists, the paradox is removed, and Achilles eventually catches the tortoise. That is roughly how it feels. Can you understand that?”

Yuta Okkotsu lived up to his reputation as the officially recognized top genius and reacted the fastest. “I get it. A combination of Field Magic and Innate Domain?”

“That is a very good analogy,” Satoru Gojo said with clear approval. “It works better than Field Magic and costs less than Innate Domain. Unlike Innate Domain, though, Domain Expansion does not have to be closed. It is usually sealed only to prevent escape. So do you understand how to deal with Domain Expansion now?”

“If we cannot win, we run,” Maki Zenin said bluntly.
