Nayr tripped, his forehead hitting the scaly muzzle of the Model 3 Antithesis. He groaned as he rolled to the side and off of the model 3, until he realized that he was laying right next to the an alien. He realized it as it lunged at his head, its tri-sectioned jaw opening up to chomp down on his head.
Nayr brought the Frost Bite up and shot the Model 3 in the roof of its mouth. A small pellet shot out and impacted the roof of its mouth, splattering a strange blueish liquid that seemed to eat away at its flesh, causing frost to spread and visibly spreading. Some of said liquid splashed down towards him. Nayr rolling out of the way liquid and shot up, and watched as the tiger like creature with its jaw split into three sections, collapsed to the side.
Nayr brought the gun up and backed up against the wall as he scanned the hallway and corpse for anymore movement.
That particular Model 3 is dead. You have gotten the points for it.
Nayr jumped, but quickly calmed and muttered a quick thanks. Once he had made sure he wasn't in immediate danger of getting killed and was getting ready to move on, another voice made him jump.
"Try not to get killed. I'll be very unhappy if my boyfriend dies." Viv said while standing just outside the door. Only her head showing.
Nayr nodded and turned away. Keeping his gun at the ready as he stalked down the corridor. Turning around the corner in the hallway, he found another three, Model 3s waiting for him, only one of the looking his way. The other two turned his way and all of them began running towards him.
Bringing up the Frost Bite and lining up the aiming reticle, Nayr shot the first one in the chest, aiming for where the leg and body connected. He shot the second one in the center of its body and then the third one in the head. The third died in only a single shot while the other two were significantly slown down as frost spread over their body.
Firing another two shots, these ones execution shots, he killed them easily. Bringing up the refill canister, Nayr refilled the Frost Bite and continued on.
The next couple hallways were empty and while he liked the silence, this silence was eerie. This silence was caused by people having fled in panic and signs of that could be seen. Bags and other classroom materials were scattered over the floor, along with some blood but there hadn't been any bodies just yet.
As he was moving through the hallways, Nayr thought to himself, he needed something to do, something beyond just hunting the Antithesis. The answer to that was fairly obvious. He was a samurai and his job was to keep people safe so he assumed he should find the people who worked at, and kids that attended the school and bring them out of the incursion.
As he came to his decision Nayr turned into one of the larger hallways that lead towards the cafeteria where he knew one of the saferooms was located. Within that hall he came onto a mass of Antithesis and a person. Swiftly limping away was a man, Mr. Smith, one of the math teachers. He was covered in blood and his leg was broken. His clothes torn and shredded from the claws of the Antithesis.
Behind Mr. Smith were almost a dozen Antithesis. He could make out a large worm like creature covered in rings of scales and legs as it ate away at human and Antithesis corpses. Next to it were two Model 3s, six Model 4s, one Model 6 which was barely able to fit within the hallway, and a few more in the back he couldn't make out.
Bringing up the Frost Bite to provide cover for Mr. Smith. Amara spoke before he could begin to fire.
That man isn't alive anymore. His body has been taken over by Model 7s.
Turning his gun on Mr. Smith, Nayr fired a shot into his head and then a second into one of its knees. Nayr then brought his gun up and started firing into the horde, aiming for vitals and joints, hoping to disable as many as he could.
"Amara. I'm going to need something more powerful."
If you can kill one of the Model 3s you will have enough to purchase something I believed that will be well suited for the situation.
Nayr nodded focusing his fire on said models, not bothering to stop firing as he used his off hand to refill the Frost Bite. Once the Frost Bite clicked empty, he had killed two of the Model 3s and had hit the final one in both the chest and the leg, somewhat immobilizing it.
Dropping the pistol, he held his hands out in a way that should be enough to catch most any weapon and still be able to easily adjust his grip. A large rifle like gun appeared in the air above his hands. It was made out of blueish gray and white metal, with lines of glowing crystal.
Bringing the gun up to his shoulder, he lined up the aiming reticle on the nearest Antithesis, a Model 4, of the the closest ones. Seemingly appearing out of nowhere, the Model 4s head rocked back and it collapsed to the ground as an icicle sprouted from its head and then more spikes of ice sprouted from around it.
Stolen from Royal Road, this story should be reported if encountered on Amazon.
Not leaving himself any more time to observe the effect of his gun, Nayr lined up its aiming reticle with a the Model 6's foot, when it touched the ground and fired. An Icicle Sprouted from its leg, piercing into the ground, frost spreading up from the wound and somewhat freezing it in place. Firing three more into the Model 6 at weak points, doing his best to stall it, Nayr turns his sights onto the rest of the Antithesis.
Shot after shot is fired out, killing or wounding an alien badly enough that he has time to kill the next before they can make it to close to him but with each second that passes they are getting slightly closer but there are also less overall. Turning his gun to start firing at the Model 6 again, he pauses as Amara says something.
Model 7 at your feet.
Looking down, he says exactly what she said he would. A small worm like creature with tentacles reaching out of its maw, grasping at his boot.
Stepping backwards, Nayr pulls the trigger, and a icicle appears, sprouting out of the ground as more frost and spikes of ice spread. Bringing his gun back up, Nayr watches as the flailing whips like tentacles of a Model 4 fly through the air, straight for his face.
The Model 4 crashes into his chest, sending him flying back, his gun skittering to the side and away from him. Tentacles are already warping around his arms and torso, pulling him in, towards the gaping rings of its maw as pointed tips dig into his flesh. They dug into his flesh, dragging him in towards its maw.
"Amara! Give me something!"
A moment later, he felt cold metal enclosing his hands and forearms and felt himself now capable of prying the tentacles apart. He felt his fingers digging into the flesh of the Antithesis and he felt cold radiating around his hands and warm liquid pouring into them. A moment later he had torn apart the head of the Model 4 killing it.
As the body fell down, Nayr saw the highlighted form of the ursine Model 6 running towards him on crippled and mangled limbs. A moment later, the rifle looking gun was highlighted and Nayr dove for it. Bringing it up to his shoulder, while on one knee, firing into the Antithesis. One icicle after another sprouted from its body. The first in its face, destroying its eyes, The second a bit down, piercing further into its skull. The third missed, the forth, fifth and sixth, piercing into its chest, and should have destroyed its heart.
While it didn't die, each shot slowed it down and impaired it in some way. Each shot bought him more time, allowing him to survive a bit longer and giving him the time to kill it.
The Model 6 has multiple sets of redundant organs an extremely durable body. Among the best ways to kill it is to either destroy its organs from the inside or inject something that will kill it slowly.
"And how do I do that?" Nayr asked as he began shooting to cripple, instead of kill. Icicles pinning its limbs to the ground freezing them there with frost, destroying joints and freezing body parts together.
Aim for here and here. Your Icicle Launcher can do sufficient damage to the organs, assuming you can hit it.
Two spots light up with red in the stomach and in the back of its body. Additionally three more spots light up with green across its body, places he had already hit. Three shots later, the Model 6 collapsed, dead.
Looking through the hallway scattered with dead Antithesis. The only thing left behind being the large worm like creature in the back.
That is a Model 8, a utility Model. Its purpose is to dig tunnels for other models to move through and to collect biomass and bring it back to the hive. Like the Model 6 you just killed, they are particularly difficult to kill as they have vital organs in every section of their body. If you do wish to kill it, I would suggest a Frost Drip Grenade. It is designed to be thrown into the bodies of particularly difficult to kill Antithesis. It will slowly release an amount of frost venom into its body slowly killing it.
Frost Venom is the name of the liquid your Frost Bite, Icicle Launcher and your newly bought Frost Claws uses. Your Icicle Launcher fires fires something far more bullet like that is also filled with Frost Venom. While in air, it uses the Frost Venom to create those icicles. When it impacts the target, it releases the rest of the venom, creating more icicles and freezing the flesh.
Your Frost Claws have a small tanks of Frost Venom within them. The Venom is injected when you slice with the claws, releasing it into your target. Additionally, the metal is particularly hard and can be used to block many attacks from many of the lower number models. It also has small servos inside of it that increase your effective strength.
At the mention of the Gauntlets, Nayr looked down at them. Just like the other two items he had bought, they were made up of greyish blue and white metals with veins of glowing blue crystal running through them. The metal around the fingers was surprisingly thin, easily allowing for fine manipulation and still fire his guns. On the tips of each finger were razor sharp claws.
As Nayr looked over the gauntlets, he couldn't help but think back to how he had ripped apart the Model 4 and couldn't help but smile to himself. It had been… fun? Exhilarating? Both?
"Amara, how practical is physical combat? Could I become just as powerful while fighting in melee versus someone who used a sniper and shot the Antithesis from miles away?"
There are millions of catalogues, just about any fighting style can be accommodated. You can become strong, your just will have different strengths than that person with the sniper for the same point investment. It all depends on how exactly you use your points.
"Could I do it without replacing the entirety of my body with metal and mechanical parts? I still want to be mostly fleshy."
That does increase the difficulty and increase the cost but is still do able, depending on how much you want to stay as you are. We can go over the exacts later but I would suggest Class I Biotic-Augmentation Catalogue. You'll Need Class I Medical Utilities and Class I Bio Sculpting. It mostly focuses on augmenting the body without to much replacing.
Either way, if you want to continue specializing in cryonic based weaponry, I would recommend getting your skin replaced with something better able to hold up against your chosen weaponry.
Nayr nodded. "I'll think about it." With that, he picked up the Frost Bite, ordered up some extra ammunition and walked over to the Model 8. "Time to deal with you.
