Chapter 13:”The Day Lenks Disappeared”

Today is amazing. Lenks is taking me to the amusement park! Mom and Dad took me when I was much smaller, but since it's the first time since then, I'm really looking forward to it.

Made to wait at the entrance of the amusement park, I was getting a little bored and had been rushing Lenks since a while ago.

  "Hey. Let's go already~."

"Wait a bit. There's an order to things. One adult and one child."

Led by the hand by Lenks, we entered the amusement park. Inside was lively, and I could see various fun-looking things. Roller coasters, merry-go-rounds, Ferris wheels, and many others.

  "Wow!"

Excited, I started walking while looking around restlessly.

"Hey. You'll get lost if you go off on your own."

  "Come quickly! Lenks!"

  "Okay, okay."

Lenks approached with a look like 'good grief' and held my hand firmly again.

"If you're this happy, earning money wasn't bad."

  "What?"

  "No, talking to myself."

Me and Lenks decided to ride the coffee cups first. When you turn the thing in the middle, it spins round and round, and that alone is fun. Eventually, I was trying hard to spin it as fast as I could.

"Ahaha! There, there~! Come on, you do it too!"

"Alriiight! I'll show you Big Bro's seriousness!"

When Lenks lent a hand, the cup started spinning faster than anyone else's. It was so fast that just sitting there was overwhelming.

  "Whoa—! I'm getting dizzy~!"

  "Here! Accelerating more!"

  "Kyahaha! Go go—!"

While doing so, the time came and the coffee cups ended. It was fun! What should we do next?

"Urp... Feel sick. Got a little too serious."

"Ah~ that was fun! Let's go to the next one!"

"Hey. Can't we rest a little?"

  "No way."

  "Sigh... Okay, let's go."

  "Yeah!"

After that, we rode the roller coaster, went into the haunted house, umm, go-karts, and merry-go-round too. We ate lunch too. Well anyway, we played a lot. When I realized, it was already evening in the blink of an eye.

It's about time to go home. But, just one last thing. I saved it on purpose. After all, the last one has to be that.

  "Hey. Lenks. Let's ride that!"

When I pointed at it, Lenks said wonderingly.

"Come to think of it, I was curious, but what is that called?"

To Lenks making a face like he had never seen it before, thinking it was weird, I explained it to him.

"It's called a Ferris wheel. It goes around slowly, you see. You can look at the scenery from above. Don't you know?"

This narrative has been purloined without the author's approval. Report any appearances on Amazon.

"Heeh. Ferris wheel, huh. There wasn't one in the amusement park I knew."

  "Liar~. I don't think there's an amusement park without a Ferris wheel."

"Is that so. Then, maybe it was so shabby that it didn't have one!"

  "Useless amusement park."

  "Exactly."

We laughed together. The Ferris wheel didn't have many people waiting, so we could ride immediately. The vehicle leaves the ground and floats up slowly. This feeling of ascending isn't exactly flying, but I quite liked it.

I look outside. Ah, it's the elementary school I go to! Can I see Uncle's house from here? Oh, there it is, there it is.

When I stopped looking outside satisfied for a moment, Lenks muttered.

  "Hey. Yu."

His demeanor was a little strange. He had a somewhat strangely serious face.

  "What?"

"I think various things will happen from now on, but do your best."

  "Yeah. I'll do my best."

I answered without thinking too deeply.

At the usual park, as usual, I parted with Lenks.

"Thank you! It was super fun!"

  "Yeah."

  "See you tomorrow!"

  "...See ya."

At that moment, I suddenly became sleepy again—.

I felt that his behavior today was strangely odd. So thinking I would definitely be called out, I had already prepared my heart. He said very reluctantly.

"It's about time to say goodbye."

I knew it. Lenks is going away. He made wonderful memories with Yu at the very end. That's what it was.

"Is it okay? Really not saying it properly."

"Yeah. Because he'd cry and cling to me endlessly, I couldn't handle it. Instead—"

Lenks took out a single letter from his pocket.

"I decided to leave this behind. Unlike Yuna, I'm not very good at magic, but..."

Instantly, I felt a mysterious sensation as if my body was filled with something. I also feel like power is welling up. Looking at him thinking 'no way', he nods with his usual frivolous face.

"You seem to have strong Magic Power. I tweaked the Magic Tolerance with [Rebellion]. I'm going to use a little magic."

  "Magic, huh."

Thinking he did something outrageous again, the letter disappeared poof from his hand. Really like magic.

"Transfer complete. With this, it should have arrived in your room."

I wasn't very surprised anymore. Anything is really possible. This person. With a deeply moved expression, he says earnestly.

"Yu has become bright enough. I'm not needed anymore. Just a little more, and your role will probably end for the time being too."

"I see. Thank you for everything until now. I was a bit fed up sometimes, but it was fun."

Recalling numerous persistent entanglements, I also say earnestly.

  "Yeah. It was fun."

I wonder what he thought. He had distant eyes. Silence flows for a while. Neither of us knows what to say. Eventually, as if having made up his mind, he opened his mouth.

"See ya. I have to go on the next journey now."

Journey. He seems like a foreigner, so is he flying around the world?

  "Can we meet again?"

"Yeah. Someday definitely. If you want, I'll go meet you myself."

  "Seems persistent."

  "You figured it out well."

Having hit the mark, he just smiled wryly. And, with a refreshed face unthinkable for a parting, he announced.

"So I won't say goodbye. It's 'see you again'."

Seeing him like that, I could naturally say it refreshingly too.

  "Yeah. Let's meet again."

  "Right."

Strangely, lonely feelings didn't well up that much. I think it's because I was prepared long ago. Lenks turned his back to me and left the park without saying anything more. He never looked back again.

I quietly see off his retreating figure. Eventually it became smaller. At that moment, a strange thing happened. I think I didn't see it wrong.

Suddenly, his figure disappeared. As if he were an illusion or something from the beginning, nothing remained behind.

I understood abruptly. The true protagonist of the journey story Mom sometimes told me at night. The savior of mysterious worlds. It is said that when he finishes his role, he leaves as if disappearing and heads to the next journey again.

I always thought it was a fairy tale.

Lenks. A truly mysterious person. Thank you.

You didn't save this world, but instead, you saved us.

  Let's meet again. It's a promise.

When I went home in a happy mood, there was a letter I had never seen in my room. When I read it, I couldn't sit still. Not thinking about being scolded, I just ran to the park at night.

"Lenks! Come out! You're there, right!?"

  Nothing happens.

  "Let's play again!"

If it's now, even if you say "If only you were a girl", I won't get angry. I can call you 'Onii-chan' for you. So.

"Hey. Come on, like usual. Say 'Yo' and come out..."

  Still, nothing happens.

  "Please..."

Because no voice comes back too much, I gradually got angry.

"Lenks, you idiot (Baka)! You could have at least said goodbye!"

I understood in my head. That I would definitely never forgive a goodbye. So Lenks... intentionally didn't say it. But, still I couldn't accept it.

"Why! Why does everyone disappear on their own! Why!"

Everyone I love disappears without saying anything. Mom, Dad, and Lenks too. I screamed. With all my anger and sadness.

"Idiot! Lenks, you idiot! Lenks, you idiooooooooot!"

Suddenly, Big Bro's serious face when we were riding the Ferris wheel came to mind.

(I think various things will happen from now on, but do your best.)

  —Ah. So that was it.

I understood. I understood it. I didn't want to understand.

  "Idiot...! Idiot... sniff..."

He's gone. Really, he's gone. Many memories with Big Bro overflowed. My chest became full.

  "UWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA—!"

In the park with no one else, I cried with all my might.
