Chapter 42 Leah had been exposed

Hearing Keller's words, Allen spoke in disbelief,"I did it?"

He pressed urgently,"With no grievance or hatred, why would I cross thousands of miles just to wipe out the Morningstar family? You are not joking with me, are you?"

Keller shook his head and sat back down in his chair.

"Absolutely not a joke. But I do not know the exact reason either. Our Demon Tribe has never had any dealings with the Morningstar family, let alone any grudges or entanglements."

"Back then, you said you were going to meditate to break through to a higher level of magic.

After you finished, the very first thing you did was cross thousands of miles and launch a surprise attack on the Morningstar family of Silvermoon City, killing them all."

Allen was left speechless, his mind in chaos, and could only murmur instinctively,"Am I… am I crazy?"

"With no grievance or hatred, to wipe them out completely?"

Keller asked with a hint of confusion in his voice,"You were the one who did it personally. How could you forget the reason?"

After a moment of thought, he added,"Perhaps something went wrong during your meditation, and the disturbance in your magic caused you to lose control of your mind?"

Allen's heart was filled with confusion and despair. He knew clearly that, strictly speaking, this was not done by the present him, but by the previous owner of this body.

But he could not explain it to Evelyn. He could not very well say that he had crossed into this world and happened to become the enemy who wiped out her family.

Even if Evelyn believed him, how would she face it?

The person who had always protected her, the one she trusted with all her heart, would overlap with the terrifying figure from her nightmares. That kind of shock would be enough to completely crush her.

Seeing Allen so lost and dejected, Keller sighed helplessly and tried to console him."Why damage yourself over a Human Tribe woman?"

"Within our Demon Tribe, there are plenty of women whose looks and talent do not lose to hers."

"If you truly have thoughts about women, I can arrange for ten or eight beauties from the Tribe to accompany you for a pleasant holiday."

Keller said with a smile,"It would be just right to let Evelyn see this. When she sees you surrounded by beauties and having no interest in her, she naturally will not cling to you anymore. That way, you will not be so torn."

Allen glanced at Keller and said,"That is quite a good idea. Rather than wasting the effort, you might as well just kill Evelyn now. It would be even easier."

To Allen's shock, Keller actually nodded seriously, then stood up and began to walk toward the door, speaking earnestly,"You have a point. One stroke to end it all. I will take care of her now."

  "Stop!" Allen shouted sharply.

Keller, who always obeyed him, immediately halted and obediently returned to his seat.

Allen glanced at him and knew that Keller had no choice but to use force, which only made him more frustrated.

The two of them exchanged a few perfunctory words about trivial matters within the Demon Tribe. Allen then stood, bid farewell, and hurried back to Radiant Magic Academy.

In the following days, Allen stayed behind closed doors, both digesting the shocking truth about the massacre and secretly planning how to face Evelyn.

If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

  ...

Suddenly, a heavy and urgent toll echoed through the entire Radiant Magic Academy. The deep, resonant sound penetrated every building.

It was the highest level warning bell of the Academy, rung only in the event of an existential crisis or major incident, used to summon all elders and apprentices.

Allen sprang to his feet and rushed out the door.

In the corridor, Eleanor was already waiting, her expression grave."Allen, hurry! Something major must have happened!"

Allen nodded slightly and scanned the surroundings, but Evelyn was nowhere to be seen.

She was likely still resting due to her injuries, so Eleanor had not called her along.

The two of them followed the sound of the bell to the main plaza at the center of the Academy. Along the way, they passed flustered apprentices and elders, all of whom wore anxious expressions.

"What could have happened? They actually rang the warning bell!"

"Could it be that the Demon Tribe attacked? But the Academy has protective magic arrays!"

"Perhaps something went wrong with the Elf Tribe, and it affected us?"

Whispers and speculation spread through the crowd, anxiety rippling among everyone.

But when they reached the main plaza, the scene before them immediately silenced everyone, leaving them frozen in shock.

At the center of the high platform in the plaza, a massive, jet-black stone pillar rose from the ground.

A woman was bound to it by several obsidian chains. Her body was covered in wounds of varying depths, her clothes soaked in blood, yet she remained upright and unbowed.

The woman was Leah of the Academy.

Allen's pupils constricted sharply. He immediately realized the reason. Leah had been exposed, her identity as an undercover agent revealed.

On the high platform, Headmaster Augustine's face was dark. Beside him stood an elderly man with white hair and beard, the Academy's Grand Elder, Oliver.

Though Allen had never met Oliver, he had heard of the Grand Elder's deeds. His status in the Academy was second only to the Headmaster.

"Headmaster! What has happened? Why is Leah locked up?"

"What did she do wrong? Leah has always treated us well. She could not have done anything evil!"

After a brief silence, waves of doubt erupted from the crowd. Many apprentices who had been guided by Leah spoke up in her defense.

Augustine remained silent for a moment, then turned to Oliver and slowly nodded.

Oliver stepped forward, his voice old but powerful, carrying across the entire plaza."She is an undercover agent sent by the Demon Tribe."

The noisy plaza instantly fell into a deathly silence. Every face in the crowd was replaced with shock and disbelief.

Only Leah on the high platform curved her lips into a faint, indifferent smile.

She lowered her head, a deep scar cutting across her exquisite face, the blood dripping along her jawline.

Grand Elder Oliver cast a glance at Leah, and his aged but authoritative voice echoed across the plaza once more:

"She is an undercover agent sent to our Academy by the Demon Tribe. Three days ago, I captured her near the Holy Demon Prison Tower."

"This woman is stubborn. She admits only her affiliation with the Demon Tribe but refuses to speak of any accomplices hidden within the Academy!"

Oliver raised his hand and pointed directly at Leah.

"Leah, do not blame me for being unforgiving. You, an agent of the Demon Tribe, have infiltrated a Human Tribe Academy. Your purpose is surely to hunt our talented apprentices and plunder our resources!"

He then swept his gaze over the densely packed apprentices below the platform.

"All apprentices are gathered here today. Point out your allies, and I may spare your life."

"Otherwise, you will be executed here with the purification of Holy Light, as a warning to all!"

Leah slowly lifted her head, her voice weak as she spoke,"There are no accomplices hidden here. I am alone."

She had long been prepared to die. She would not implicate anyone, nor would she reveal Allen's identity.

Hearing this, Oliver's anger twisted into a bitter laugh, his fury surging in his chest."So, you are determined to die?"

Leah lowered her head again, silent, only the faint tremble of her fingertips betraying the slightest stir of her heart.

Allen quietly exhaled. Taking advantage of the crowd's attention focused on the platform, he slowly stepped back, slipping away without a sound, and found a hidden corner to conceal himself.

He had to wait for an opportunity to rescue Leah, but under no circumstances could he reveal his identity.

Magic swirled in Oliver's palm, condensing into a sharp dagger.

"You really think I do not dare kill you?"

"This is your last chance. Speak! Who else among you is a Demon Tribe spy?"

The dagger in Oliver's palm glowed ever brighter.

Yet Leah kept her lips sealed, silent, her gaze unshaken, her expression resolute as if welcoming death.

A cold gleam flared in Oliver's eyes."Fine! You brought this on yourself!"

With those words, he raised his hand and threw. The dagger in his palm, radiating dazzling light, shot toward Leah.

Leah exhaled gently, slowly closing her eyes, already ready to face death.

But at that moment, the clear sky above suddenly darkened. Fierce winds howled through the Academy, and everyone on the plaza looked up in shock.

Above the Academy, dense shadowy clouds of magic quickly gathered, rolling and surging, blotting out the sky, instantly covering the entire Radiant Magic Academy.
