Chapter 30

Miri gazed upon the colossal enemy in front of her with a sense of cautious apprehension. Tightening the grip on her staff, she mentally steeled herself to face the enemy head-on.

With a hefty downward swing, the giant dummy slammed its club onto the ground in front of him, sending a sundering shockwave that traveled through the ground towards Miri. The redheaded mage dodge-rolled to the side to avoid the earth-shattering attack, but the giant soon began lumbering forward, trying to engage her up close. In an attempt to intercept its approach, Miri casted Meteor Impact, summoning a rocky boulder which crashed right on top of the dummy, colliding into it with tremendous force.

The giant dummy staggered back a little as smoke and cinder bloomed from the injury on its head. However, it soon regained its poise and continued trudging towards the mage. Right as Miri was about to cast another Meteor Impact to finish it off, she suddenly realized that she didn’t have enough mana. Panicking, she fired one Starlight Bolt and one Crescent Arc towards the giant, which did little to halt its advancement. When facing against such an enormous foe, her two weaker spells might as well be peashooters.

Soon, the giant was able to approach close enough to perform a downward swing with its club. Miri quickly dodge-rolled to the side before taking out a mana potion to try to replenish her lost mana. However, in the middle of drinking her potion, she left herself wide-open for just a brief moment, allowing the giant to land a swift front-kick directly in her gut. The mage was sent flying backward by that powerful kick, her body crashing onto a stone wall, the impact causing her to cough out some of the mana potion she just drank.

“Oh no!” Anne exclaimed under her breath as she watched from the balcony, worrying that her companion was in a bit of a rough spot at the moment.

Miri had to take a second to collect herself as remnants of the blue liquid that was the mana potion was leaking down the corners of her mouth. She then quickly looked down at her wrist to check the condition of her armor.

A case of theft: this story is not rightfully on Amazon; if you spot it, report the violation.

  [Armor durability: 17/30]

Shit, that was a huge hit, Miri thought desperately. I cannot take another hit like that. I just can’t.

Because of that kick forcing her to regurgitate some of the liquid she just drank, she was only able to receive roughly half of the mana replenishment from the potion. Even so, it should be enough to cast one more powerful spell to finish the giant off.

“Meteor Impact!” Miri called out, performing that same powerful spell once more.

However, this time, the dummy seemed to be ready for it and performed an overhead swing that knocked the incoming meteor away, similar to a baseball bat smacking away a baseball. Miri was absolutely flabbergasted when it happened. She didn’t know that enemies could do such a thing, at least not when she played the game version of it. Had the enemies in the isekai version actually become smarter than the game version? What kind of bullshit was that?!

The giant continued advancing forward, trying to pummel Miri with repeated swings of its club. At the same time, Miri continued dodge-rolling and countering with her weaker spells, realizing that her most powerful spell was no longer as effective as she had hoped.

However, when up against her weaker spells, the giant might as well be a damage-sponge, taking the hits like it was nothing. And while she might be able to whittle down the giant over time, she preferred not to take too long as she also needed to keep the time limit in mind as well.

There had to be a better way. She just needed to use that brain of her to figure it out. Her previous gaming knowledge didn’t seem to help her as much as she thought it would. She needed to adapt, and do it quickly.

And then the thought hit her in a sudden lightbulb moment. If the giant was using the club to swat away the meteors, why not just remove the club?
