Currently, Miri and Anne were at Laveau’s Runes and Wares, where they came to drop off some more scavenged runes from their jobs. As they did so, the two women retold the story of what had happened between them and the three douchebag knights at Golden Lion.
“Man, I fucking hate those bastards,” Miri complained. “Thinking that just because they come from rich families, they can just do whatever the hell they want.”
“It’s all my fault,” Anne said, her face wreaked with guilt and shame. “If it wasn’t for me, you wouldn’t have been inconvenienced the way that you do. I really am a burden to you. I am very, very sorry.”
“Come on, Anne. You need to stop blaming yourself for everything. This isn’t your fault,” Miri said with a sigh, placing a reassuring hand on the cleric’s shoulder.
“She’s right, you know. You really shouldn’t blame yourself for what had happened,” Madame Laveau said to Anne before turning to Miri. “With that said, you have quite the gall to stand up against members of Golden Lion like that.”
“What, you’re saying that I shouldn’t?” Miri said.
“No, no, I think you are completely justified in what you did,” Madame Laveau said. “In fact, I would have probably done the same thing. Well, not the exact same thing. I would have had Noir peck their eyes and tongues out and feed them to the wolves.” The watchful pet raven Noir let out a caw in agreement, seemingly more than happy to do its master’s bidding. “Members of Golden Lion are notorious for being quite unlikeable throughout the city, always using their noble status to get away with their deplorable behavior. I can absolutely understand why you did what you did. Sadly, your actions aren't without its fair share of consequences.”

“Yeah, tell me about it,” Miri said with an annoyed sigh.
Of all the obstacles she’d expected to face when getting isekai’d into this world, she wouldn’t have thought dealing with spoiled noblemen brats to be one of them. She’d expected her conflicts to be more along the lines of raiding dungeons and fighting dragons and such. She’d rather take on a humongous dragon rather than dealing with those douchebag knights. At least she could actually punch a dragon in the face without any consequences. Well, she’d run the risk of getting flame-breathed and chomped, but at least it's something she’s comfortable with handling.
“What are your plans now?” Madame Laveau asked.
“I dunno. I honestly have no idea where we go from here?” Miri replied, shrugging her shoulders. “I mean, we’re basically blocked off from every money-making venue out there. Neither of us could get a solo license. We’re likely not going to get recruited by any guild around here. And all the guild-less, license-less jobs we’ve taken so far were barely making us enough money to cover the costs of living. Yep, as far as I see, we’re entirely out of options.”
“Well, I wouldn’t say you’re entirely out of options,” the blind shopkeeper said. “There are jobs out there that are available if you look in the right place—jobs that are immune to the influences of the nobility, jobs that actually pay well, jobs where being in a guild or having a solo license is not necessarily a requirement.”
“Hmm, really? You know of such jobs?” Anne asked, feeling hopeful.
“Indeed, I do. In fact, I have one particular job that comes to mind. However…no, it's way too dangerous. I don’t think you two are capable of handling it.”
“Oh, come on. At least tell us what the job is first,” Miri said. “We’ll decide on our own whether the job is too much for us to handle.”
“Yeah, whatever the challenge is, I’m sure we can handle it,” Anne added resolutely.
The blind shopkeeper could hear the determination within the voices of these two women and couldn’t help but relented in telling them about the job. “Alright, I’ll tell you about the job. Just be warned that it is incredibly dangerous—way above your level—and would most likely get you two killed. This particular job…involves finding a rune that’s guarded by a Chimeragon.”
