The boy instinctively tried to follow her in, but Scarlett turned and stopped him at the door.
“Don’t come in. The downstairs auntie said you have to leave within five minutes. Give me your things.”
The boy had fair skin, wore a white shirt and gray casual pants, and had thick-rimmed black glasses under his shoulder-length bangs. The lenses were visibly heavy, making him look somewhat dull.
He nodded expressionlessly, pushed the suitcase into the dorm room, and turned to leave.
Although they were of the opposite sex and had even helped each other move things, Grace could sense that they weren’t a couple.
“My driver’s son, a math major.”
Scarlett explained casually.
Grace understood. Judging from Scarlett’s appearance and demeanor, it wasn’t hard to guess that she came from a wealthy family; she was clearly a pampered girl who had been raised in luxury.
Scarlett walked to the bed opposite Grace, looked it over, and said with apparent reluctance, "Then I'll choose this one, facing you."
As she spoke, she suddenly tilted her head, looked at Grace, and smiled, "You're so beautiful."
Grace was slightly taken aback, seemingly not expecting this young lady's thinking to be so unconventional, praising her so unexpectedly.
"You're beautiful too," she politely replied, and indeed, Scarlett was very beautiful, the kind of radiant beauty.
The next second, Scarlett pouted, "This dorm room looks like it's been empty for a long time; there's a thick layer of dust everywhere."
"You probably don't know how to clean, do you?" Grace asked, looking at her.
Scarlett nodded without hesitation, looking at Grace with some difficulty, "If I let you clean by yourself, wouldn't it seem a bit much of me?"
"I can treat you to a big meal!" Scarlett's eyes lit up.
Grace couldn't help but chuckle. Her new roommate was not only pretty but also quite cute; she was starting to like her.
"Leave it to me," Grace said, pulling out her phone and fiddling with it.
Scarlett curiously leaned over to look. She saw Grace had opened a group chat called "AUST Dormitory Cleaning Job Opportunities Group."
"West Campus Women's Dormitory, Building C, Room 336, initial cleaning needed. 3 positions available, 1 cent payment each, first come, first served."
Immediately, someone jumped into the group to accept the job.
Scarlett blinked in surprise: "You can do that?"
Grace explained softly, "This group is full of students from our university, both boys and girls. Most are from financially disadvantaged families, and they earn a little extra money by taking on dormitory cleaning jobs in the group."
This story has been taken without authorization. Report any sightings.
A classmate added her to this group when she first enrolled. Although she received a monthly stipend as a special admission student, she still occasionally took on jobs in the group to earn extra cash. She stopped taking jobs after Eric objected to it when they started their relationship.
However, she never left the group, and today it came in handy.
Shortly afterward, three girls with tools knocked on the dormitory door. They were all freshmen.
"Hello, senior sister."
The girls were very polite. Grace took the initiative to speak, saying, "This is an empty dormitory, so there must be many hard-to-reach areas. I'll have to do a deep clean."
One cent per person was already a high price. Grace had considered the need for a deep clean when setting the price, which was why she increased the fee.
Scarlett quickly added, "Especially the restrooms, they must be thoroughly cleaned."
The other junior students nodded in agreement, "Don't worry, senior sister, we'll handle it."
The dormitory cleaning session lasted two hours each time, and they were getting in the way. Grace looked at Scarlett and asked, "Shall we go for a walk first?"
Scarlett naturally had no objection. With all the dust flying around during cleaning, she didn't want to stay in the dormitory.
However, after leaving the dormitory, Scarlett remained unusually silent the entire way, not saying a word.
Grace was utterly confused. Just as she was wondering what was going on, the other person suddenly turned to look at her and shouted, "Ah!"
Grace was startled and stood frozen in place, her face showing surprise. "Huh?"
"I finally remember! Grace, right? I remember you!" Scarlett looked at her excitedly. "You're Eric's girlfriend. Someone took a picture of you and posted it on the school forum when you first enrolled last year. I saw it!"
"Oh, I finally remember! I was so anxious! I thought I looked familiar as soon as I saw you, and after learning your name, I was even more certain I'd heard it before. I thought and thought for ages before I finally remembered!"
She let out a long sigh of relief, a look of relief on her face.
Grace was speechless and amused. It turned out that her sudden silence was because she was trying hard to remember who she was.
However, judging from the tone of her voice when she mentioned Eric, they seemed quite familiar.
"You know Eric?" Grace asked tentatively.
Scarlett pursed her lips and nodded, "Yes, my dad and his dad are business friends. I've known him since I was very young, but we don't see each other often, so we're not very close. We only see each other occasionally when our elders meet for social occasions."
"But I know about your relationship. I saw Eric confessing his love to you with roses downstairs at the girls' dormitory."
"I broke up with him." Grace quickly interrupted her, afraid she would say something more envious.
Scarlett opened her mouth, "Huh?"
Grace smiled calmly and nodded slightly.
Scarlett's expression changed slightly, and she couldn't help but ask, "Why?"
Grace pursed her thin lips, hesitating to speak. In her previous life, Eric plagiarized her thesis three years later, so she obviously couldn't use that as a reason now.
She hesitated for a moment, then whispered close to Scarlett's ear, "He's not very good at that..."
"That? Which one?" Scarlett blinked blankly, and noticing Grace's meaningful expression, her pretty face flushed red to the roots of her neck: "Then...then that one?"
Grace put a finger to her lips, signaling her not to tell anyone: "Don't tell anyone else."
Noticing that no one else was around, Scarlett's shy expression instantly changed, and she lowered her voice, puzzled: "That shouldn't be the case, he...he seems quite good at it!"
Grace shook her head in disappointment: "Don't judge a book by its cover."
"Tsk tsk tsk." Scarlett also shook her head: "A tall guy over 1.8 meters, all for nothing."
Because of this topic, their relationship suddenly became much closer. Hand in hand, they crossed the west playground and left the school gate. Scarlett said she would treat Grace to a farewell dinner.
The two ended up at a tiny, unassuming restaurant in the food street behind the university.
Scarlett, unable to hide her disgust, looked around and repeatedly wiped the table in front of her with a tissue, but no matter how many times she wiped, grease stains remained.
"I said I'd treat you to a fancy meal, and this is where you chose?"
