Chapter 18 Rebuilding reputation and introductions.

Hey coward!” I heard someone call from across the hall. Some teachers liked to keep the class going even after the bell rang, while others tended to dismiss class quite a while before. Which was the same in my old world. Misha and Neffie’s teacher seemed to be part of the former as I had been waiting while for them to come out after the bell rang. Because of that the hall was filled with quite a few students who all turned to look at the commotion. The idiot from yesterday along with a few others was behind the guy who had just shouted. Who I guessed was the supposed young boss they had mentioned. ‘What was his name again?’ I asked mentally. ‘It was Juandre von Vestia.’ Adviser helped me out. As I looked at him, I slowly got an idea. “I knew it wouldn’t take long for my bait to work.” I spoke. My voice staid but calm. He seemed taken aback by my response, but quickly recovered. “So, you’re the one who stole my spot on the entrance exam.” He said his pompous tone enough to make me realise his over inflated ego. “Dude I am in the top ten while you did not even crack a hundred. Go take that “I’m the main character” ego of yours and shove it somewhere the sun does not shine.” My reply came the anger I had been feeling since I had gotten reprimanded this morning finally coming through my voice. ‘Hey you need to calm your emotions, Lucian.’ Adviser said. His advice bringing me back from my small amount of bloodlust. He is just another student. Killing is not part of the plan I reminded myself. Even though I had regained control of my emotions he had not. “You lowly commoner, if you think cheating your through the…” SLAM. before he could finish his monologue, his face met the floor. I had used a blink ability to get behind him and slammed his head into the ground. I knew he could withstand the force because of advisers’ assessment and proceeded with what I was feeling like doing. Before any of his friends could retaliate two of them met with my fist and elbow respectively. This all transpired in less than a second so the others where to shocked to react. As I stood straight looking at them, blood dripping from my fist and elbow, none of it my own. I had let some of my natural killing intent radiate outwards as I looked at them. “I had spared you last time because I wasn’t in the mood to deal with you… even now I spared their lives because I am generous.” My words became even darker and colder as I said the next thing. “I don’t give third chances, consider yourselves lucky and let it be known if you want to die at school, I will gladly provide your method of suicide.” My aura was now even making the bystanders including Misha and Neffie’ s class who had by now come out, shiver, and tremble some kids closer to me took a step back, while a few in the group I was addressing fell, one even wetting himself. “Take that useless loser to the nurses, and if he wakes up make sure he understands his next plan for death.” I said as I turned around, my aura now dissipating as I walked toward my friends. After we left from there Neffie asked me why I had done that and I replied. “Last time I misunderstood my duties as a body guard, now I do, its better to be feared by people who want to come look for trouble before they do.” My answer seemed to satisfy her as Misha looked at me her expression a bit more fearful. The fear in her eyes stung my heart, that had not part of the plan, but better for her to know the darker side of me now than to only realise it later. “How did you get there so fast, one moment he was still rattling of a bunch of nonsense with you across the hall, next thing you were there with his head in your hand.” Ahh so she had seen that, the way she had described it reminded me of a particular vampire romance story from my previous world which made me laugh inwardly. “Let’s just say I have been very agile from a young age.” I said my tone turning jokingly mysterioso. As we walked to the clubroom together the atmosphere seemed to become brighter and the fear in Misha’s expression disappeared altogether which had made my unconscious tenseness disappear along with it. *** The clubroom door opened with a creak, which made me think to get some oil for the hinges. After coming inside, we saw that everyone else was already there lounging on the sofa or siting on a chair. James as always was at the black board in the room, evidently still working on his math problem. Brad was the one lounging and reading a book, enchantment for dummies. Was on the cover page which made me stop dead in my tracks as I had to suppress a chuckle. Demetry was at the desk a couple of alchemical materials in front of him, he seemed to be doing a bunch of random actions before frantically writing something down every few seconds. All three of them looked our way as we entered James’s head only snapping towards us for a second before looking back at his problem, his mind catching up to what he had just seen he looked back again. We walked inside and I spoke. “Everyone this is Nefftalia, Neffie this is brad…Demetri… and the one currently scrutinizing those numbers on the board like they are naked ladies is James. I pointed to each in turn; my last remark got a chuckle out of everyone as they each took her hand in turn and kissed it. “She has decided to join our magic advancement club. I continued as they each welcomed her and offered hopes that she enjoyed it here. Afterwards I went to James who had a couple of bald patches o the sides of his head, evident of him literally pulling his hair out. And I surveyed the contents on the black board he seemed to be trying to work out something with infinite speed. I asked him. “What is this about infinite speed, you do know that’s impossible right.” He looked at me and said, “well we have been observing light for a while what else can its speed be but infinite.” he said looking like he wanted to pull even more out. I was a bit astounded by the level of math he was trying to solve but then I answered and said. “I do not think it is, I just think that it is the speed limit of the universe. I mean anything faster than light would need to get to a point before it existed and nothing with mass could sustain that acceleration, I do not even think it is possible to accelerate anything to the speed of light, so that means light cant exist before it is created.” I said remembering einsteins famous equation E=MC*2. My words seemed to stun him for a bit; he stood there for a bit before a spark seemed to reignite in his eyes as he rubbed out the information on the board not much longer, he had a new equation on the board with which he was calculating the same thing but with variable speed. He was once again emersed in his work but this time it seemed as thou he would get somewhere after finally writing the last line he immediately ran out saying. “I have made a breakthrough, thanks for the advice. I need to go experiment.” His words were fading away as he ran. Surprising the rest, I quickly looked at the equation he had and was a wee bit astounded, he was not far from the correct equation einstein had figured out in order to figure out the speed of light, all he needed now was to get the correct answer from direct experimentation. ‘I guess there are geniuses in every world.’ I thought wondering if I maybe should have kept my mouth shut but I decided that it was not my problem if this world got its own einstein. I instead went to see what Demetri was busy with. He was still randomly taking what looked what like crude ores and either crushing small chunks or heating up others and doing other more convoluted things to it. Considering I had already helped someone else figure something that I already knew from earth out, I decided I was not in the mood to see what result he was trying to achieve just in case I accidentally cause even more of a scientific breakthrough in this world, making my own advantage less. After the rest left, I walked the ladies to their dorm before heading back to my own room and going to bed, satisfied that I had fixed my mistake from yesterday.
