Chapter 6

  Chapter 6

The Skidbladnir emerged from hyperspace, settling into a high orbit above the mysterious world designated P3X-439. Amos leaned back in his seat, a breath of relief escaping him. "We've finally arrived," he declared, anticipation mingling with the weight of their mission. Freyr focused intently on his view screen, drawing forth an image of the planet. As the visualization zoomed in, a rectangular outline materialized over the remnants of a shattered monument.

"That has to be the repository's location," Amos observed, a spark of excitement igniting in his voice.

"Quite right," Freyr responded, his gaze steady. "We need to make our way to those coordinates. Let’s hope your mission reports hold true—if so, we may yet uncover the wisdom of the ancients."

With a swift motion, Freyr produced a large white stone and handed it to Amos. "What's this?" Amos inquired, his curiosity rising.

"This," Freyr explained, placing a similar stone against his own chest, "will facilitate our teleportation between here and the surface."

Without further delay, they activated the stones and vanished from the ship, only to reappear amidst the planet's ancient landscape. As they materialized, they found themselves enveloped by crumbling ruins and lush, untamed fields, the silence amplifying the magnificence of their surroundings.

“Is this planet truly uninhabited?” Amos asked, surveying the serene expanse.

“Affirmative,” Freyr replied with a confidence that resonated through the still air. “We should remain undisturbed during our time here.”

The two walked through the thick ruins on the unclaimed planet and made their way towards the large monument , the only relic of an intelligent civilization still standing on the abandoned world. There Amos Fyree stepped into the void of the unknown. As the two stepped onto the relic holding the Ancient's Knowledge, a round alien device materialized before them.

  "This must be it,"said Amos.

Freyr stepped closer to the round grey orifice and said, "Indeed."

The round grey object activated, producing an ashen mound with two hands protruding from its center. Amos placed his head into the middle of the device and its hands reached out and grabbed his head. In that breathtaking moment, the ancient wisdom of ages long past cascaded into his mind like a torrential river, sweeping away the trivialities of his previous existence. Everything he had known, his life in Chicago now mere echoes in the vast expanse of possibility that lay ahead. Transcendence awaited him, and as the light flooded his consciousness, Amos Fyree felt the chains of his former self shatter, heralding the dawn of a new destiny.

Suddenly, the hands on the Repository of Knowledge let go, and Amos was free from the ancient device.

“Are you alright Amos Fyree?” wondered Freyr. Amos backed away from the repository and rubbed his eyes. “Wow, what a rush!” said Amos. He could feel himself spinning – changing – from what he was, into what he was about to become.

“I’m fine,” assured Amos. “Now, let’s go save your people.”
