Chapter 11

  Chapter 11

The city shimmered with an electric excitement, a vibrant tapestry woven from dreams and ambition. For the Asgard, this was an unprecedented moment—their first steps into a Lantean city, a realm unseen and untouched by their presence before. Unlike the distant outposts and weathered research facilities they had encountered scattered across the vastness between Ida and the Milky Way, this place radiated youth and vitality, an architectural marvel that stole their breath away.

Nestled before them was a stunning metropolis, each structure a testament to elegant design. The airy, open spaces were wrapped in a luminous glow, while copper tones intertwined with rich mahogany finishes danced together in harmony, accentuating the grandeur of this newfound domain.

"Is Atlantis as magnificent as this?" one of the Asgard inquired, his eyes sparkling with wonder as he turned to Amos.

"Atlantis bears a resemblance to Asuras," Amos began, his voice steady and rich with knowledge, "yet while Atlantis is but a small island, Asuras is sprawling like a pulsating city. Once, this beautiful metropolis was besieged by the Lanteans, who feared the devastation that the Replicators could unleash on the galaxy. When they abandoned Pegasus for Earth at the end of a terrible war, however, the Replicators seized their opportunity, spreading and proliferating across the planet. What remains now is a testament to the resilience of their species and the splendor of a world transformed."

The group of explorers continued to make their way down the long ornate hallways of the adorned city until they came to a giant opening showing the world outside. “A-ma-zing,” said the bewildered Asgard. As Amos and the Asgard looked out of the large opening, they gazed upon the vastness of the entire city. Resting on a large body of water, like a leaf hovering on the stillness of a small pond, lay the heart of the metropolis – A Lantean city ship. Surrounding the city ship was a circular boardwalk and many rows of buildings. In terms of density this city could easily dwarf some of Earth’s largest cities from Sao Paulo to Shanghai.

Scattered in between those buildings were green spaces and small trees giving life to this mechanical wonderland. In fact, nature had been pushed to the brink in this metropolis. There was more green on Othalla than on Asuras. For so long, the Asgard viewed themselves as the pinnacle of civilization. It had been millions of years since their power and prestige were humbled by achievements of another race.

The Asgard had very little knowledge of the Ancient’s exploits since they had left the Milky Way millions of years ago. Going deeper and deeper into Asuras reminded the Asgard who the Ancients really were and what they could also become. Looking out at this city, their new golden city which was now completely and utterly theirs, the Asgard began to reimagine their own empire and ponder their own destiny. With all that lay before them they knew what they had discovered. This wasn’t some normal outpost. This wasn’t some normal city. It was as if the Asgard had stepped into Heaven itself. It was at this moment, the Asgard stopped calling their new colony Asuras as it was called by the Replicators, and began calling it Valhalla.
