Chapter 55

  Chapter 55

The Captain of the Special Forces unit was impatiently pacing back and forth outside of the Southern Isle's Children's Hospital. Another member of his team quietly looked at his watch while chewing what appeared to be a type of alien gum and made a shocking discovery.

"Hey Boss,"said the rookie member of Hebridan's special forces.

"What is it?" responded the Captain walking back to his position.

"Times up."he said, popping his gum in the process.

The dubious captain checked his watch himself and low and behold, the deadline for the ransom had passed and no explosion.

Suddenly, the energy shield that had hindered them for so long disappeared, granting them access to the children's hospital.

  "Ok people, let's go!"

The Hebridean special forces stormed the children's hospital where they bypassed hundreds of hostages running for safety. In the atrium of the complex, they saw the Genite terrorist Mack Tynan on the ground, bound and handcuffed by none other than Amos Fyree.

Up in orbit over Hebridan, joyous celebrations were taking place. The President and his administration were celebrating not only a complete victory but a miracle. Amos Fyree, the alien who had come from nowhere, had destroyed a Ha'Tak vessel and prevented a suicide bomber from destroying a hospital full of innocent children.

When Amos arrived back at the Situation Room, the mood had completely changed. Dozens of reporters and journalists were there wanting to know everything they could about Hebridan's new hero, and the Commonwealth he represented. Greeting him first however was none other than the President of the Hebridean and Serrakin Federation himself, Peter Hagan.

"Son, that was a miracle! On behalf of the people of Hebridan, as well as her many colonies, I want to congratulate you on a job well done." spoke the proud President amongst tremendous applause.

As the crowd continued to cheer his miraculous victory, Amos could see in the distance the wife of Mack Tynan being led out of the Situation Room.

Amos quieted down the crowd, then looked up at the President and said, "Sorry, Mr. President; but there's still one more miracle that needs to be done."

Amos parted the sea of people between him and the exit, and walked over to Cynthia Tynan. She was barely out the door, when Amos reached out his hand and placed it on her shoulder nudging her back into the Situation Room.

"Hello, Mrs. Tynan, could you please come with me,"urged Amos with a soft and gentle voice.

"W-why yes, yes I can,"said the frail and sickly woman.

Amos held Mrs. Tynan's small and weak hands, and asked all of the news crews and journalists in the Situation Room to circle around.

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

"Come now; everyone please come here," said Amos trying to get everyone's attention. "Everything that I said down in the Southern Isles was the truth. We intend on healing Mrs. Tynan."

The sound of cameras flashing, and the questions of eager journalists, filled the room.

"How much is the procedure?" asked one journalist.

"Can you pay a deductible?" inquired another.

Amos waved his hand silencing the press.

"There is no cost, there is no deductible. The procedure is simple. The procedure is free."

The crowd grew even louder, and asked even more questions, after Amos had said these words. Amos was forced to once again raise his hands and silence the throbbing roar of the people. "We came to this world for a reason. Not only to foster an alliance against the Goa'uld, whose mighty shields and weapons you have bore witness to today. We also came to this planet to heal the sick, help the less fortunate, and perform wonders using the knowledge of the Ancients and the vast pool of knowledge and technologies now shared amongst a dozen worlds."

Amos then turned to a bashful Mrs.Tynan who lowered her head as he addressed the crowd. "Mrs. Tynan. Could you please tell us the name of your disease?"asked Amos as he gently raised the shy woman's head.

Mrs. Tynan looked at the slew of cameras and microphones surrounding her and with a small and gentle voice, she opened her mouth and said:

  "I have Lukemia."

"Oh my God," blurted someone in the back.

"That's incurable," uttered someone in the front.

Amos once more silenced the crowd with a movement of his hand and printed a small Orbanian delight.

"Oh Ancestors!" blurted one of the journalists. "Even the chocolates obey him."

Why Amos tried hard not to laugh at the idea of him being chocolate Jesus, he took the Orbanian delight and placed it in Mrs. Tynan's other hand.

"Take and eat," said Amos, as Mrs. Tynan took the peanut butter and chocolate covered treat.

Mrs. Tynan took the small wafer and put it in her mouth. As she chewed the Orbanian delight she noticed that the sickness that plagued her for so long was slowly fading away.

  "I feel… I feel… better," said Mrs. Tynan. "I feel… healed!"

As she continued nibbling on the Orbanian delight, a reporter from TCNN couldn't help but notice that the large round lump protruding from her arm had disappeared.

"Oh ancestors, look! Her lump; it's gone!"said the astonished journalist.

Mrs Tynan took one look at her arm and tears began to well up in her eyes.

"Thank you. Thank you. Oh God, Thank you!"said the once sick wife of Mack Tynan.

Amos looked at her and smiled, "No problem. I'm a man of my word."

In a moment of silence, an eager journalist from the Hebridan Herald asked Amos one last question, "What about the food and living expenses you promised her? Are you going to give her those things for free too?"

Amos realized he sounded like a Democrat, if they only knew he was really a Republican. He reluctantly nodded his head in affirmation and said, "Yes, we also have the technology that can print food and housing from thin air."

The press corp and government officials laughed not thinking that Amos was serious. Then Freyr raised his finger and interjected, "It's true. With our matter conversion technology we can produce food synthesizers and modular homes with absolutely no cost. As soon as you all join the Commonwealth we can begin offloading supplies."

This time the press said nothing, only widened eyes and dumbfounded looks could be seen around the Circle after Freyr confirmed that the Commonwealth could print food and housing from thin air.

The President, reading the room, finally moved the attention of the media back to him in order to end the makeshift press conference. "Come let us conclude this emergency meeting of the Circle. We have much to prepare for tomorrow. To everyone watching, remember the election will begin at 6 pm tomorrow evening and end at 8 am in the morning. Just like the last election, per protocol, we will kick off the general election with a rally in the capital's Infinity Square so come on out and join the fun. This is, in fact, a time for celebration! I hope everyone will attend; and don't forget, everyone, vote Moderate, vote Tech Con!"

A member of the media, now focusing solely on President Hagan, asked him a followup question, "Mr. President, do you plan on using your executive authority to add joining the Lantean Commonwealth as a referendum on tomorrow's ballot?"

The crews of the Samantha, Skidbladnir, and the Sebrus each looked at President Hagan intently for his response. The aged president then cleared his throat and once again addressed the people, "After all that's transpired following today's events," the President took a brief moment to gather his thoughts, "I will use my executive privilege to add joining the Commonwealth to the ballot on tomorrow's election. It will then be up to the Hebridan and Serrakin people if a formal union with the Lantean Commonwealth is what they really want. As a matter of fact, how about we have Amos and his comrades give the keynote address at tomorrow's election rally? How does that sound?"

Both the Hebridan press corps and the Lantean Commonwealth were in agreement.

"Very well! I will see you all at 5:00pm for tomorrow's rally kicking off the General Election!"
