Yui says “Sure, I can do that. Just put the papers on the table so that I can scan them.”
I just nod and spread out the papers on the nearest table. Then I watch the beam of light pass over them as Yui scans them.
Yui says “Alright, it won’t interfere with the tower at all and I don’t see any mistakes, but I do have a few suggestions.”
“Please!”
I quickly sit down and start taking notes as Yui explains her suggestions. Most of them are ways to make everything work together more efficiently. Especially the formation, her knowledge of formations turns out to be far deeper than I had imagined.
Instead of helping me to further modify my formation, Yui walks me through creating one from scratch. I learn a lot about formations and it ends up being a very educational experience for me. By creating a custom formation, not only will it be more effective, but it will also be easier to set up.
It is still going to be three dimensional and built into the mountain, but it will be easier to put in place. It will still allow the system to connect to the rest of the kingdom, but it will cost less mana. That means that I will have more mana available for the other enchantments.
In fact, with Yui’s help, I am able to add a few things back in that I had taken out due to lack of mana. Yui understands how enchantments interact with each other on a level I am not sure I will ever reach. She even modifies some of the enchantments so that they share parts and work better for it.
“I never would have imagined that two enchantments that share a common component could be merged like that!”
Yui says “It is a very advanced technique and is normally only taught to those who have earned the rank of master enchanters.”
“Is it okay for you to be teaching it to me?”
Yui says “It is appropriate. You would easily qualify as a master enchanter at your current level of skill. You are almost at the point that I would consider you a grandmaster enchanter.”
“Oh. Thank you. What am I missing to be a grandmaster?”
Yui says “Mostly, you just need to master this skill. Once you create an item that has two enchantments sharing two or more components, you will be a grandmaster.”
“It works with more than one component?!”
Yui says “Yes, it does, but the difficulty multiplies with each component.”
“Well, I am definitely going to have to play around with that later. However, I will probably wait until after I am done with the city.”

Yui says “That is wise. Attempting to do too many tasks at once will ruin them. There is no rush.”
“That’s true. I just need to get this done so that I can set up the government. Once that is done I plan to take a break to do some hunting.”
Yui says “Unfortunately, I don’t know enough about governments and how they work to offer any advice.”
“It’s fine, I already have a plan. I just needed to be sure that upgrading the city’s enchantments wouldn’t affect the tower. By the way, I still want to take a look at the tower’s enchantments at some point.”
Yui says “If you can meet the requirements for me to recognize you as a grandmaster enchanter, I will be able to give you access.”
“I thought Lin had to become the owner of the tower to grant me access?”
Yui says “Grandmaster enchanters have special permissions. After all, they are the ones who enchanted the tower. They even have a way to override the orders of the ruling archmage if they need to.”
“Basically, they left themselves a backdoor?”
Yui says “I am not sure what that means. There are no doors involved.”
“Nevermind, it is something from my world. It doesn’t matter. I will see about becoming a grandmaster enchanter once I am back from my hunting trip. Although, it may have to wait until after I learn draconic.”
Yui says “You found a way to learn draconic?! That has been the dream of practically every mage who ever resided in the tower! Draconic is believed to be the original language of magic and as such it should be able to surpass the magic known to the tower.”
“While I probably won’t be allowed to pass on the language, I should be able to answer some of your questions about it, if you want.”
Yui says “Yes, please!”
“Alright, I will stop by once I learn draconic.”
Yui and I chat for a few more minutes, but I still have things to do so I don’t stay too long. Next I use the teleporter to go down and arrive in Core’s room inside the main pillar. Luckily, she is there and after saying hello I show her my plans for upgrading the city.
Core says “This all looks great, but what does it have to do with me?”
“I wanted to make sure you were okay with me changing the enchantments. This is your city and these are historical elven enchantments. It wouldn’t be unusual for you to be against me changing them.”
Core says “You are our king and this is your city. You can do whatever you want with it. You can also do whatever you want with us, we are your people.”
“I don’t like the sound of that. You are not slaves, I don’t own you. You are free to tell me no or that you don’t like my idea.”
Core says “That attitude is a big part of why we were willing to recognize you as our king. Among the elves, once a king is recognized, his words are absolute. After you brought them here, and freed me from this room, I talked to all of the elves. I heard everything that you did for them and why they chose to recognize you. You are not just our king in name, you have been recognized by all of us as our rightful king.”
“Be that as it may, I still don’t want blind obedience from you. If you have a problem with something I am doing I want you to speak up.”
Core says “If that is what you want, then of course I will do so. However, I still don’t see any problem with this plan. The enchantments, if I am reading them right, will be of benefit to both you and my people.”
“I don’t know if you know about it, but there is a set of enchantments to allow the king, or queen, to control the city. It also gives a lot of information about the people living in the city. This plan’s main purpose is to improve that system and add more options to it. It will also allow more people to use the system.”
Core says “More people? Like who?”
“Well, for one thing it will allow my wives to have the authority of queens in the system. I also plan to allow less access to those I appoint as ministers and governors. It will allow them to see all the information for their territory and some other functions.”
