6. First Request

The guild operates on a ranking system, listed in order as Green, Red, Blue, Yellow, White, and Black. When I asked why they were arranged this way, I was told that the higher-ranked magic, starting from Red, becomes rarer as the ranks go up. Apparently, very few people can use Black Magic.

The guild also buys monster parts as materials. Killing anyone other than bandits and criminals is strictly forbidden, doing so would result in being enslaved. Attacking guild receptionists is also prohibited. Anyone, whether noble or commoner, can become an adventurer. However, when advancing from White Rank to Black Rank, a simple practical test is required. That’s the basic gist of things.

"That concludes the explanation of our guild’s rules. Do you have any questions?"

"I’d like to take on a simple request and also get some information on the monsters in the surrounding area."

  "Understood. Please wait a moment."

With that, the elf receptionist disappeared into the back.

A moment later, she returned with a thin sheet of paper… and a massive stack of documents as thick as a whole dictionary.

  "Here you go."

The thin sheet was obviously the request form, but what was with that absurdly thick pile of papers?

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

  "Um… that huge stack… Could it be…?"

"Yes, this is the information on the monsters you requested."

She said that with such a bright, dazzling smile, but…

"Wait, are there really that many types of monsters around here?"

"Not really. There are only three common species nearby. However, there are always a few reckless people who venture into the Poisonous Forest. So, this also includes information on that area and the creatures that inhabit it."

  "The… Poisonous Forest?"

"Oh? You don’t know about it? It’s that deep forest near this area."

"And what kind of monsters appear there?"

"Ah, let’s see… Mostly creatures like boars and bears that have venomous traits. Ah, here it is."

I took a look at the document.

…Wait. These are the same monsters I’ve been fighting all this time!

"Umm... What’s wrong? Don’t tell me you plan on going to the Poisonous Forest?"

"H-haha… No, of course not, who'd be such a fool to do something like that..." (Jiro)

"Good. Now, let me explain your request."

  ---

  Request: Goblin Extermination

  Reward: $500 per goblin

  Required Proof: Right ear

Additional: Corpses may be sold based on condition

  ---

I see. So this is how requests work.

  "I’ll take this request."

"Understood. Please be careful out there."

…Why does this feel like a maid sending her young master off on an errand?

  "Oh, by the way."

  "Yes? What is it?"

"Do you have any weapons or armor?"

…Ah. I completely forgot! I should check out the equipment available.

"Thanks for reminding me. I’ll go take a look right now."

"Please do. And… make sure you don’t die mister."

With those parting words, I left the guild.
