Chapter 39: Bodyguard (Part 1)
=======================================
Robin was currently sitting at a bench in the middle of a park. It was the meeting place designated by his employer. As he waited for their arrival, Robin listened to his favorite tune “Unravel”. Three men approached Robin as the song started to end. He put away his headphones as the man in the middle introduced himself.
“Are you Robin?” he asked.
“Yes. It's nice to meet you.”
Robin held out his hand. The man ignored the gesture and continued to smoke his cigarette.
“My name is Thomas Walker. These two men,” he tilted his head at each muscular man in black suits, “are my personal bodyguards. However, for certain reasons, I require someone stronger to protect me for the next three days. You will follow my orders to the letter, is that understood?”
“Of course.” Robin responded.
Detect
The men's body glowed to reveal hidden guns behind their jackets. Thomas's own body had a pistol hidden in his sleeve.
Identify
= Huh. That's weird. I can't see their names. Are they using some kind of skill to hide it? I should learn that sometime. But I wonder why they're hiding it. Suspicious... =
The man started to walk; Robin and the bodyguards followed him. They got into an expensive car and drove out to one of the exits in the west. During the car ride, Thomas began to explain the plan to Robin.
“Today, I need to visit one of the mines outside the Kingdom. I need to be there to receive some cargo. Because it's a bit far, I need you to protect us and get rid of any Grimm that we run into along the way. We'll have to stop every time they approach us, so if you could get rid of them as quickly as possible, that would be preferable.”
Robin nodded in understanding.
“Good. After getting there, we'll be transporting a truck back to the kingdom. I need you to protect us during that entire time. The faster you get us back, the extra pay I'll give you. After returning, you'll spend the night with us. I'll explain what we do each day when it comes. Payment will be done after each morning. Just do your job, and we'll get along fine.”
The travel was done in silence. Robin spent his idle time watching the road outside. As they got further away from the kingdom, the road got bumpier. In the beginning, only weaker Grimm approached the noise from their vehicle. Robin would poke his body outside the window and fire at them with Pantomath to prevent them from blocking their path. As he monitored they surroundings, he signaled to Thomas of an incoming foe.
“There are stronger ones coming.” he said.
The bodyguard, that was driving, pressed the brakes. As the car slowed down to a stop, Robin jumped out of the car and landed square on his feet. Activating his skills, he examined the group of felines.
Identify
= I must get rid of these guys now or they'll just be troublesome if they gather to follow us. =
Enhance
Aura Sword
His body cloaked in silver, Robin dashed forward while extending the reach of his dual swords. Robin slashed the ground with Pantomath clad in flames from Red Dust. The strike caused a line of fire to form and separate Robin and the Grimm from the vehicle. The Skull Sabertooth pounced at Robin.
Aura Limbs
A pair of arms reached out from his sides and grabbed the Sabertooth by the neck. Robin threw it towards the ground and stabbed a sword through its head. The power behind his strike was enough to crack completely through the bone armor that covered its head.
The Skull Cheetah tried to dash by them and over the flames. Robin pumped aura to his legs and dashed to block its path. The Cheetah acknowledged that fighting Robin was a losing battle, so it continued to get past him and fight the weaker foes hiding behind the flames.
Robin didn't even let it attempt to a second time. He aimed at the exposed joints and fired Yellow Dust bullets at its legs. The bullets paralyzed the creature and caused it to fall to the ground with its legs twitching. Robin sliced off its head before returning to Thomas and his men who were clapping at his performance.
“Very impressive, Robin. You definitely have more skills than I gave you credit for. Would you consider being a permanent bodyguard? I can guarantee the generous pay.”
“You flatter me.” Robin chuckled. “I appreciate the offer, but I'm not interested in a permanent job.”
“A shame.” Thomas shrugged. “Let us continue.”

The rest of the ride was done in a similar fashion. Robin fired paralyzing shots to prevent Grimm from following them. Those that he deemed were too dangerous to leave alone were dealt with accordingly. After four hours, they arrived at a place that had walls surrounding it. Of course, it was lower than that of Vale, but it did its purpose of keeping many Grimm at bay.
They entered the walls after showing their status plates for identification. Thomas pulled the car up to a warehouse where mined Dust was stored before shipping. A man approached their car as they parked.
“Name?”
“Thomas Walker.” he said. “I'm here for the cargo.”
“Ah yes, Mr. Walker. It came a bit earlier than expected. Would you like to confirm the products?”
“Of course.” He looked at Robin.
“Stay here and guard the vehicle. Don't let anyone in. I'll be back soon.”
Robin drank an elixir and did as he was told. The wait lasted for an entire hour. Just when he was about to die of boredom, Thomas returned with more people following him. They all got into their respective vehicles and drove out of the mines. This time, a truck and several other cars guarding the truck followed behind them.
Thanks to his earlier prudence with killing the Grimm, there were less occasions where they had to stop. Nevertheless, Robin gathered enough experience to reach Level 62. After another four hour drive, they entered the Kingdom, and then they entered Thomas's home which was a huge mansion. Thomas reached into his inventory and pulled out 4,000 dollars in cash.
“Here you are. You were very helpful today. The extra is a bonus for making everything run so smoothly today.” He smiled.
“Dinner is already placed inside your room. I'll see you in the morning.”
Robin happily took the money and stuffed it inside his inventory. He bid them good night and left for his room. It was rather spacious, and just like Thomas said, dinner was prepared and left on a desk inside. As he sat down to ate, he began to examine his status.
= Hmm.Thomas seems to be very rich. Not only did he hand out 4,000 in cash, but he also has maids that take care of his mansion. How fancy. = Robin thought.
Robin washed up and changed into his night clothes he had brought in his backpack. He sank into the soft bed and let the feeling of sleep overcome him.
= I hope the next two days are easygoing like this. I'll get a huge increase in money if that's the case. =
I'm sleepy so I'll get you the next chapter tomorrow. Huzzah for status update which takes forever to write. I'm not writing for every skill because that takes up space that isn't necessary. >.> Rate, comment, enjoy! Thanks for reading!
Edit: I'm gonna ask using the poll. Do you guys want me to add a table for each skill? or keep doing like I always have, showing a table when he learns it and show it again if it changes.
