Chapter 188 – Showing Sari around

Lydia, Pete, Eve, and Theo were still in the middle of getting to know each other better, and while doing so, the former two learned a lot about their daughters, Sophia and Steph. This also included how the tiger had turned into royalty at some point, and the dog-girl dating the daughter of a goddess.

“Why did you have a baby carrier in your storage?” While their parents were talking, Maya, Sophia, and Steph had left the cottage, and the cat-girl was staring at her girlfriend, who had strapped her little sister to her chest using a carrier she had pulled out of thin air.

“I thought it might come in handy in the future~.” She smiled at Maya while gently caressing the head of her sleeping baby sister. “I was right!”

“…” The cat-girl’s expression turned complicated as she looked at the tiger and the baby nestled against her chest.

“I wonder if this was the future you thought it would come in handy for.” Steph let out a small chuckle.

“Not at all.” The blonde lightly shook her head without any hesitation whatsoever.

"It suits you, though." The dog-girl gave her a thumbs-up while smirking at Maya.

“Shush!” The cat-girl glared back at her.

  “Hehe.” She liked her reaction.

"Should we give Sari another tour of the domain?" Sophia was utterly unfazed by her sister's teasing. “She’s too young to consciously remember anything we’ll show her, but we might be able to make her link this to a happy place.”

“Cheeky, I like it!” The middle sister was a fan of the slightly underhanded tactic the tiger came up with.

“Doesn’t she need to be at least awake for anything to stick at all?” The cat-girl gestured at the baby, who had been sleeping the entire time since they went to Earth hours ago.

“Ah, that’s a good point.” Sophia looked down at her sister. “Well, let’s just walk around and see if she wakes up. We could also introduce her to the other girls while we’re at it. And Fennyfenny, too.”

“Where are they right now?” Steph tilted her head. “I mean, not all the biomes in your domain are a good place for babies.”

“That’s a good point.” The blonde agreed with her. “Let’s see, Ari and Aura are in their rainforest area. Anna’s with them, too. That might be too dark for Sari, and she could get scared, so we should avoid that for the time being.” Unbeknownst to her, she prevented Sari from seeing something truly terrible. A scared tiger overwhelmed by bugs and turning everything to dust, that is.

“Y-Yeah, we should definitely not go there.” Judging by her wording and reaction, it seemed like Maya already knew about the true nature of the rainforest and what was hidden inside.

“Chloe and Fenny are in their winter retreat. They just got their log cabin the other day, so we won’t be out in the cold to appreciate the beautiful view.”

“The cold is the best part of their holiday home!” The dog-girl disagreed.

“Regardless of whether that were true, which it isn’t, the cold is no place for a baby!”

“I guess so…” There was little she could say there.

“Alright, let’s show Sari her first northern lights! They may be fake, and North doesn’t exist in my domain, but those are just little details!” Saying so, Sophia opened another portal, and the girls went to visit the cozy duo.

  ----------------

“Sari!” When Chloe spotted them and saw the baby cradled against Sophia’s chest in the carrier, she immediately walked up to her and gently patted her head.

“Wait, you know her?” Maya looked a little confused.

“Of course!” The fox smiled at her. “Whenever Steph took me with her to meet the family, Sari got unlimited cuddles from me.”

“Exactly how it should be.” The tiger gave her a thumbs-up.

“Ahh, makes sense.” The cat-girl had briefly forgotten about the part where Chloe had met them a couple of times already.

"Does that mean your parents are also around?" The fox-girl wondered why the little baby sister was with the two older ones.

“They’re back in the cottage and getting to know Maya’s parents.” Sophia nodded. “They wanted to have a parents-only chat, so that naturally meant that Sari also wasn't invited, and I just had to take care of her.”

“You had to, huh?” She raised an eyebrow in return.

  “Absolutely!”

“Anyway, what’s up?” Chloe decided to let it be. “Are you showing Sari around?”

  “Yup!”

“Shouldn’t she be awake for that?”

“Do you want to wake her up?” The blonde stared at her.

“I see the issue.” She obviously didn’t have the heart to do such a cruel thing, either. “I can’t believe just how much of a good sleeper she is, though.” The fox petted Sari a little more while saying so.

“Really?” Sophia and Steph tilted their heads. “Even though she’s our sister?”

“Ah.” Chloe paused for a second. “Fair point. You two are also impossible to wake up.”

“Hehe.” They were proud of their skill.

“Wait, how long was I asleep?!” While the girls were chatting, they had moved to the living room of the log cabin and ran into Fen, who had been asleep on a rug right in front of the fireplace. He got rather confused when he saw the baby against Sophia's chest. “I’ve hibernated in the past before, but not more than two or three months at once, though. If I remember correctly, the gestation period of your humanoid lot takes a lot longer than that, right? I don’t feel like having slept for longer than half a day, either. Well, whatever, congratulations!”

“It’s not my baby.” The tiger rolled her eyes while slightly shaking her head. “It’s Steph’s and my little sister from Earth.”

“Ohh.” He nodded a couple of times. “Right, I remember you talking about getting your family to here.”

“Yup!” She smiled at him. “Regardless of that, I heard something interesting just now! You need to teach me how to hibernate! I need to know how to do that before the next winter!”

  “Sure!”

“Don’t you dare!” Maya glared at him. “I’ll make your existence hell if you do!” She didn’t like the idea of Sophia sleeping even more, and being unable to wake her up for entire months.

“We still haven’t had the magic fight you challenged me to in the desert.” He looked back at her. “I don’t care about empty threats.”

“He got you there.” Steph had to side with the wolf.

“Yeah, it definitely can't be yours." Fen stared at the baby before looking up at the tiger. "I can't feel any bit of magic inside of it. If it were your cub, my head would probably explode if I were to use my detection magic on it.”

“True!” The blonde nodded. “Mine would be the most powerful baby alive!”

“Parenting life will be unbelievably difficult…” Maya had a bad feeling about their future.

“It will be fine~.” Sophia was looking forward to it.

“Speaking of magic, what are we going to do in that regard?” Steph looked at her older sister. “Mom, dad, and Sari need some if they're in this world, right? Especially if we want them to stay here, but it would be helpful even just when they visit."

“Sari would be fine without it for a good while longer.” Maya lightly shook her head. “It takes a few years before you become able to use magic. Like, Ellie’s magic only awakened a few weeks ago. The normal beastfolk also can’t sense dormant magic, so she wouldn’t be suspicious, either. Lydia and Pete would definitely need it before being in public, though.”

“That is true.” Sophia nodded along. "Well, they don't need a lot, and I'm getting a lot more power from playing in the domain, so I won't mind giving them a little bit of my power to get them started.”

“Same!” The dog-girl thought so, too. “How about we both give them something? That would only be fair!”

“Sounds fine to me!” The tiger smiled at her. “We might as well also give something to Sari while we’re at it. It’s true that magic needs a while to activate in people, but maybe it already does something while it's dormant, and Sari would be missing out on some sort of development.”

“That could be!” Steph didn’t want to rule it out. “We should talk with them about the magic thing later, once we return. Also, no giving Sari magic right now. Mom and dad have to decide on that.”

“Fair.” Sophia nodded again. "We'll do our best to convince them, though."

“Of course!” The dog-girl wanted the same, after all. “I wonder if magic has an influence on the immune system.” She then tilted her head. “I mean, there’s healing magic as a whole, and when I received my magic, I instantly felt more powerful and healthy, so…”

"I'm not sure if you need to have a certain base level, but magic definitely affects your vitality.” Fen looked at Steph. “I mean, on our level, we literally don’t age. The tiger beastfolk, who generally have a little bit more magic than the others, also live slightly longer. It would make sense that it also makes you sick less often."

“Let’s go!” Steph clapped her hands. “That’s such a convincing argument for mom and Dad!”

Afterward, they tried to come up with some more arguments to sell having magic to their parents while waiting and hoping for Sari to wake up on her own. After all, showing her the domain when she was fast asleep made little sense, and no one dared to wake her up forcefully.
