Sophia introduced Sari to Fen, and the group had a good time chatting in the cozy biome of his and Chloe's while getting sidetracked a whole lot before eventually getting back to showing her little baby sister more of her domain.
"How is this world?" While the girls showed Sari around, the parents were still getting to know each other, and Lydia wanted to know more about the place her daughters had ended up in. "The general world you are from, not whatever this place is."
“Mhmm, it’s a good place?” Eve tilted her head. “It’s a little hard to tell without knowing any other worlds.”
“I don’t have anything to complain about.” Theo nodded along.
“How about diseases and things like that?” Pete joined the conversation. “Especially serious or large-scale ones like pandemics?”
“Uhh,” The cat-man paused for a moment. “Two years ago, there was a nasty cold that caused half the village to rest in bed for three days.”
“Dear, that was three years ago.” Eve lightly shook her head.
“Ohh, right!” He scratched his cheek. “Pandemics, huh? I learned about those roughly 30 or so years ago in school, but it’s just a theoretical scenario, isn’t it? It's not the cheapest thing, so people don't use it for every little thing. Still, it's affordable for everyone to receive healing magic when necessary, so all serious illnesses get treated before they spread. The kingdom will help, as well.”
“Hah.” The couple from Earth was at a loss for words.
“What about life-threatening diseases?”
“It depends.” Theo looked back at Pete. “If it’s something really serious and you let it get to the point where you’re basically dead already, there’s a chance that healing magic won’t work anymore, either. Normally, most can get treated with a couple of sittings with the healer. Though, I bet Sophia could bring people back from the dead. Her healing magic is something else entirely. Normally, it’s not that good at fixing the effects of time on one, like a bad back or knees, but after your daughter worked on me, I felt like being 17 again. In fact, I still do.”
“Wow, that is quite something!” Lydia was too overwhelmed to find the right words. “What about jobs? How hard is it to find work?”
"That, once more, depends." This time, the cat-man looked at the woman. “There are many professions with different demands. Your skills play an important role, as well.”
“That is fair.” Lydia couldn’t really say much there. “I used to manage a kindergarten before halfway through my pregnancy with Sari, and decided to fully focus on her. I’d like to eventually work with children again, though.”
“Ohh!” Eve lightly clapped her hands. “Kindergarteners are always in high demand! It’s quite a prestigious and well-paid job, and you seriously need to prove your skills, so not just anyone can become one."
“Prestigious and well-paid?” The blonde woman looked confused for some reason.
“Of course!” Eve nodded. “They help to raise our children and are a cornerstone in educating the future generation! Just like teachers, it’s obvious that they enjoy a high standing and are respected by everyone for that. Anything else naturally would make no sense! After all, there’s nothing more valuable than children, and preparing them for their lives is a noble deed.”
“Uh-huh.” Lydia’s expression turned awkward. “That’s definitely how it should be, yes.”
“I think I’m starting to see why the girls like this place so much.” Pete leaned over to his wife and whispered those words.
“Y-Yes.”
“How about planning and engineering jobs?” The sisters’ father then looked at Maya’s parents again. “I used to be a civil engineer, and I’d love to learn how cities in this world do their infrastructure. Maybe I could teach a thing or two, too. Although, I’ve been moving into private housing lately, so that would also be an option.”
“Well, that’s not really my field of expertise, but I don’t see how that shouldn’t work out.” Theo thought about it for a moment. “Houses always need to be designed and engineered. If it's larger-scale civil engineering regarding the infrastructure of cities, it might be regulated by some sort of ministers of the king, and it might be harder to get into. Then again, you have some good connections with your striped daughter there.” He started smiling. "Sophia could easily put in a good word for you with the king or the minister in question."

“Isn’t it great that our girls are this successful?” Pete gave his wife a cheeky thumbs up.
“That is quite true.” Lydia could only nod.
“Have you already decided to migrate to our world?” Eve tilted her head after hearing how happy they were over the job situation.
“It certainly sounds like that to me, too.” Her husband nodded along. “I’m sure Sophia would let you stay in her mansion in the capital, so you wouldn’t even have to think about that, either.”
“She has a mansion?!” The couple got loud.
“Ah.” Theo noticed that he wasn't helping.
“We have not decided on migrating.” Lydia shook her head while her husband did the same. “We are interested in knowing if it would even be an option in the first place.”
“That makes sense.” The cat-woman couldn’t blame them for being cautious. “There’s also still the magic issue, too.”
“It’s not something you can decide so lightly.” Pete agreed with his wife. “Although, if we manage to solve this issue and we’re able to blend in without causing suspicion, I’d like to at least see this capital. If it’s as nice of a place as you’re selling it, it’s at least worth considering.”
"To at least visit every now and then in the beginning," Lydia added some extra detail to it. “We can’t just leave our old home and world behind like that. Our impulsive girls were able to do that, but we have to think about everything we’d have to take care of first.”
“We’d gladly show you around once the circumstances allow it.” Eve smiled at them. “I’m sure Sophia and Steph will give you the first tour, but once everything settles down, we can give you a less fancy version of it.”
“After all, going around with the sisters, especially Sophia, who’s something like a celebrity in the capital, might not be the most representative way of getting to know the world. With us, regular commoners, you’ll get the normal experience.”
“That sounds lovely.” Lydia liked the idea. “Knowing our girls, they’ll probably do their best to give us the perfect impression of the world. They’re cheeky, after all.”
“Actually,” Theo lightly shook her head. “Sophia told us that she’d be glad if we could also show you around. She admitted that she and her sister want you to live here, but they’re not going to force you, and how they want you to see the world from a regular point of view.”
“Wow.” Lydia paused for a second. “I am impressed that our daughters can be so mature.”
“If they want to, that is.” Pete let out a small chuckle.
“That is quite true.” His wife nodded a few times.
“You should be proud of them.” Eve thought they turned out to be amazing people.
“We absolutely are!” The couple agreed with her.
“Is there anything else you’d like to know about our world?” Theo tilted his head. “We’ll gladly tell you everything we know. Admittedly, it’s not all that much because we’ve spent most of our lives in a rather remote town, but we have done a little bit of traveling and been in the capital for almost a year now.”
“Everything you’re okay to share!”
“I’m a little interested in the remote town part.” Lydia got curious about his explanation. “After Sari was born, we decided to take a break from the busy life to fully focus on her. We lived away from everything and everyone for a good while. We’ve been living in a big city for over 20 years already, but we actually quite liked the slow life.”
“Yes, I loved how idyllic it was.” Her husband felt the same. “Especially being so close to nature, as well as no phone and never-ending doomsday news.”
“Phone? Doomsday news?” Theo looked confused.
“Not important~.” It was exactly what Pete wanted to hear. “In our world, everything is connected with each other. So, if something happens at the other end of the country, we'd know about it immediately. We also have all kinds of transportation that gets you across the entire globe in a couple of hours. It’s very convenient, but it can also be quite overstimulating.”
“Wow, that’s hard to imagine.” The cat-man thought about it for a second. “Here, it takes weeks before news from the capital reaches our home. Even stuff that happened in the next village only gets to us by chance. I'm unsure if that's a blessing or a curse, though."
“I guess it depends on what you’re used to.” Lydia couldn’t blame him. “For us, constantly being able to know about everything that happens everywhere on the entire planet, no matter how significant or insignificant, whether we want or care to know, can be a bit much.”
“That really is the complete opposite of the state of things in our world.” Eve was impressed for a moment. “That, too, can be a blessing and a curse, huh?”
“Very much so.” The couple from Earth reacted with a vigorous nod. “Living in a remote place sounds more and more lovely to us.”
“I guess that’s fair.” The cat-woman shrugged. "If you don't want to know what's happening around you, you definitely won’t be forced to know in our world.”
“I’m not sure if it would be the right way to live in the long term, but right now, that sounds like paradise.” Lydia felt like it might eventually would feel bland, but she still liked the sound of it.
“Although, this might change a little in the future.” She scratched his cheek. "A little while ago, Sophia told us about her plan with her portal things. Apparently, the king asked her to place them in important cities nationwide to link them with the capital. With this, the way information is exchanged, and how travel time will be reduced, things probably won’t stay the way they are right now.”
“Our girl is an active one, huh?” Pete looked at his wife.
“That’s putting it quite lightly~.” Theo let out a small chuckle. "Once you go to the capital, ask some random people about the blonde tiger. Everyone will have a story about some kind of thing she did for them.”
Afterward, Maya's parents told them more about the idyllic and somewhat easygoing life everyone has in their world, which made Lydia and Pete look rather envious. The sisters’ plan seemed to be working rather well.
