Chapter 183 – Cunning tactics

Sophia and Steph told their mother about their plan to show their family the new place they're now living in. Naturally, Lydia had some reservations about going to another world, but the sisters' argument that it would be less work than going to another country made her falter slightly, and she decided to agree if they could persuade their father to do so as well.

“Okay, I’m overjoyed to see you two again and happy to have met Maya, but what was the thing about convincing me about something earlier?” Pete tilted his head while looking at his daughters.

“Our girls have gone insane.” Lydia stared at him with wide-open eyes.

“Mhmm.” He glanced at his dog- and tiger-girl daughters before shrugging. “Okay?”

“Hey.” The sisters didn’t like his reaction. Or rather, the complete lack of a reaction.

“Sophia and Steph want us to visit their new home.” The woman added a bit more detail to it.

“Huh?!” He finally understood the insane part. “You want us to go to another world?!”

“For a visit, yes.” The two nodded. “Nothing more.”

“Hah.” Pete wasn’t sure what to say. “That’s quite something.”

“I didn’t hear a no!” Steph got excited. “Let’s go!”

“Calm down.” He rolled his eyes. “What is the plan here? The motivation behind it, as well.”

“Thank you very much for being so reasonable!” Lydia smiled at him.

"That much is only natural.” Pete nodded a few times.

“How did we turn out the way we are with parents like this?” The dog-girl tilted her head.

  “Good question.” Sophia shrugged.

“Very good question, indeed!” The two just looked at their daughters in a disapproving manner.

"It's as we said before, we want to show our family how we live now!” The dog-girl looked back at him. “There’s nothing wrong with that, is there? Our home is amazing, so we want to brag about it, too!”

“So you don’t want us to stay, or rather relocate to there?”

“We absolutely want you three to move there.” Steph shook her head.

“That’s not our decision, though.” The tiger smiled at him. “We can show you how amazing the world and the people are, but there’s just no way we’d ever make you stay there.”

“Exactly!” The dog-girl agreed with her.

“Speaking of amazing people, we already told mom, but you could also meet Maya’s mom and dad once you go there. Eventually, you’d also be able to meet Chloe’s parents, too.”

“They definitely got their cunning side from you.” Pete took a quick peek at his wife.

“What’s that supposed to mean, dear?” She looked back at him. “Are you trying to imply something here?”

  “I would never!”

  “Good~.”

“Can we even go to a different world just like that?” He faced his daughters again. “I mean, even simply going to a different country here can include a lot of work.”

“There’s no such thing as customs for people from other worlds, you know?” Sophia lightly shook her head.

“How am I supposed to know?!”

“…” She paused for a moment. “Fair enough.” The was nothing else the tiger could say.

“We’ll just go through the sparkly portal upstairs and arrive on the other side. From there, you can do whatever you want and take a look at the sights. Once you’ve had enough, you’re free to return whenever you want~.”

“Should we?” He slightly turned his head to look at Lydia.

“You’re actually considering it?!” Her eyes grew wide again.

“I mean, we've been supposedly living with a portal to a different world in our upstairs closet for about half a year now! It always reminded me a little of Narnia!” Pete sounded a little bit excited. “Have you not gotten curious at all when walking past the closet lately?”

“I’m still having a hard time wrapping my head around it.” She scratched her cheek. “It’s clear that it leads somewhere, and that place is different because of how our girls now look, as well as Maya and Chloe, who also have non-human features, but it still seemed too fantastical for me to think too much about it. Not to mention that our beloved Sari is taking up most of our time.”

“That is true.” He agreed with his wife. “You two are the main reason I haven’t taken a peek yet. Then again, it is apparently the home of our other daughters now. If they guarantee it's safe, and we can return at any time, isn't it almost our duty as their parents to make sure they’re living well?”

“You’re the best, dad!” Steph was happy he was on their side.

“You absolutely are!” Sophia thought so, too.

“Well, if you put it like that, while still unnerving, we do have to make sure they’re having a proper lifestyle at their new place.”

“LET’S GO!” The dog-girl energetically jumped off the sofa.

“Shhh.” The tiger put a finger on her lips again while glaring at her before gesturing at Sari on her arm, who stirred a little after the loud noises.

  “Ah, sorry!”

"Is there really nothing we have to be wary of?" Lydia was still slightly reluctant. “Are we safe in terms of health-related issues? I’m especially concerned about Sari here because her immune system is still developing, you know?”

"I would argue that there are many more diseases on Earth than on the other side.” Steph scratched her cheek.

“The issue is not the number of diseases, but none of us having any exposure or antibodies for those of a different world.” She then looked at Maya. “Couldn’t that be dangerous for her, as well? Especially if there are even more diseases on this side.”

“Not an issue.” Sophia smiled at her mother. “Whenever we take the portal to Earth, I’ll bathe everyone in an obscene amount of healing magic before and after going through. In fact, after you go through the portal, you'll be healthier than ever, and Sari will be, by far, the healthiest baby in existence.”

“Is magic really that omnipotent?” Lydia had a hard time believing her.

“To be fair, after we met the new Sophia a little over half a year ago, she healed my back pain with those blue particle things, and I haven't had a single issue with it since then." Pete felt like what the tiger was saying could be true. "Dear, I haven’t heard you mentioning anything about the occasional migraine attacks you used to have in the past since that day anymore, either.”

“I haven’t had even as much as a slight sting since those blue particles, yes.” She nodded.

“The ‘All-In-Sophia-Premium-Healthcare’ comes with all sorts of benefits while having the low-low costs of daily Sari cuddles!”

“That’s a reasonable price if you ask me.” Steph gave her older sister a thumbs-up.

“Wow.” Their parents had nothing else to say.

  “Let’s go.”

  ----------------

“Okay, now that I’m standing right in front of it, can we talk about this again?” The group moved upstairs, and Pete was getting cold feet while looking at the swirly pink and purple particles that formed a two-meter-tall and one-meter-wide opaque portal.

  “Gladly!” Lydia energetically nodded.

“Too late!” Steph wasn’t going to let them reconsider.

“How about this?” Sophia turned the inner part of the portal see-through to make it easier for them by letting the two be able to see what was on the other side. “It’s a lot less concerning now, isn’t it?”

“It’s just a room?” Her father tilted his head while taking a better look. “Also, it’s so weird that the inside is bigger than the outside!”

“Because the portal to Earth is a little special, I put it into its own place away from other things for quarantine and preventing accidents.” The tiger smiled at him. “Speaking of quarantine," She then concentrated for a second before the entire area was bathed in pale blue light. "Good to go~."

  “…”

“Alright, as I’m getting slightly tired of this, let’s give this a try~.” Sophia’s expression changed into a smirk. Luckily, she still had an ace up her sleeves. Or rather, in her arms. She was still holding the sleeping Sari and then simply stepped through the portal with her before turning around and waving at her parents from the other side inside the portal.

“HEY!” Lydia and Pete instantly leaped through the portal without wasting another thought on it.

  “She’s good.”

“She definitely knows what she’s doing.” Maya and Steph smiled at each other before slowly following after the others, as well.

“That was cheap!” On the other side, Lydia glared at her striped daughter. “Using Sari like that is a complete no-go!”

“Using her for what?” Sophia tilted her head. “I basically just walked a couple of steps with her. She didn’t even stir when going through the portal because there’s nothing to it.”

“…” She had nothing else to complain about there.

“Admittedly, it’s not the most refined way, but I’ve gotten tired of people taking hours to go through my portals because they’re scared.” The tiger rolled her eyes. “I would NEVER put Sari in danger of any sort. It is 100% and absolutely safe.”

“Are we really in a different world?” Once he calmed down a bit, Pete looked around in the dark grey room with nothing but four corners, the portal, and a door. “It looks remarkably unremarkable.”

“Did you think rooms would look different in other worlds?” Steph tilted her head.

“Okay, fair, but you know what I mean!”

“Well, this is pretty much just the entrance to the world.” Sophia gave him a thumbs-up. “Kinda like the airport after arriving in a different country. Just a bit less fancy, though much less annoying, as well.”

  “I guess that makes sense.”

“Alrighty, let us show you the actual world!” Steph opened the one door leading out of the room. “Well, one of the worlds, but we’ll get to that later.” After all, the group arrived in Sophia's domain, which, while it was a different world, wasn't the one where the sisters had ended up in.

As Sophia was still holding Sari and simply walked through the door afterward, her parents had no other choice but to immediately follow her to get their first actual look at a different world in one way or another.
