Chapter 4.5: Everything about the 22nd century - world and military - Part 1

World: In the year 21XX, the world is no longer a fragmented picture of small nations but has united into massive alliances, extending their tentacles of power across the globe. When history is no longer just an endless flow of individual wars but has turned into a ferocious storm, sweeping away old boundaries and forcing each individual to come closer under common ideals and goals. However, the nature of humans is conflict, and when these powerful blocs grow stronger with absolute power, confrontation becomes inevitable.

Organization: Also known as Optimized Republic of Governments for Nuclear Innovation Zones and Territorial Integrated Operational Nexus (O.R.G.A.N.I.Z.A.T.I.O.N). This bloc is a symbol of remarkable progress in nuclear science and technology. Formed from the alliance of nations sharing ideals of high-tech development, Organization builds a society where efficiency and artificial intelligence are central. Skyscraping metal towers, automated transportation systems, and state-of-the-art combat machines are testaments to their superior strength.

Nation: Also known as New Alliance of Thaumaturgic Innovation for Operational Nations (N.A.T.I.O.N). This bloc is the embodiment of the combination between tradition and modernity, when magic is applied to science, a powerful alliance where humans have chosen to research and exploit supernatural sources of power for development. Similar to the industrialization of nuclear energy by Organization, Nation heavily invests in the industrialization of magic, as it is not only a tool for combat but also a source of knowledge and energy to improve life, while thoroughly exploiting this power for the bloc's development.

Blood Contract: The Blood Contract is a form of magical contract created by modern researchers in the early period of Nation. With the Blood Contract, humans can achieve great accomplishments and gain tremendous motivation to fulfill what has been agreed upon. In return, they must have a strong will and a heart of steel to resist the insidious corrosion of the contract. Additionally, the Blood Contract is used to seal covenants between individuals and organizations, ensuring that all will adhere to what has been signed. If someone attempts to go against what has been agreed, they must face the eternal flame, burning their heart and mind, similarly for those who are not steely enough before the power of the contract.

-"The greater the condition, the heavier the responsibility to complete. Even if one gains the strength to finish, if the will is not strong enough, then what awaits is only death" - John, a researcher on Blood Contracts, said.-

-"Similar to other contracts, the Blood Contract can also be 'loopholed' to declare it invalid. In some cases, the signer will intentionally harm themselves, leading to the contract becoming void. Additionally, there are many cases that lead to the contract becoming invalid, such as loss of memory or loss of ability to function, etc." - Max, a researcher on Blood Contracts, said.-

Soldiers: Due to special conditions leading to the inactivity of mobile weapons during operation, soldiers must personally go to the battlefield with their weapons. In terms of equipment, current soldiers tend to view close-range weapons as primary, while long-range weapons are only supportive.

-"Throughout history, no matter how powerful the weapons, infantry has always been crucial, and this holds true even today. Many military branches have been disbanded due to the times, but infantry continues to develop" - Valen, a high-ranking general of an unnamed bloc's military, said.-

Fortifications: Architectural structures built to serve as the first line of defense. These fortifications are equipped with particle-field shield systems to protect against enemy firepower. Capturing these fortifications is always a top priority, as they are usually placed in strategic positions, helping to observe the situation inside and outside the national borders, like the very eyes of the nation on the battlefield. Basically, fortifications operate like a double-edged sword, so protecting them is always a top priority.

-"We know it’s a double-edged sword, but the benefits it brings are too great. So we have increased the particle density of the shield field in this area" - Alex, an engineer of an unnamed bloc, said.-

-"Because of the strategic importance of fortifications, resource allocation there is decided by high-ranking individuals in the system, so basically, no one dares to intentionally damage or destroy them. And if someone does? Then they’re either an idiot or a madman" - Lexor, a high-ranking official of Organization, laughed and said.-

Intelligence Network: A collection of one or more groups of people tasked with secretly gathering information within the enemy’s ranks. Typically, each unit commander has their own independent intelligence network. Because even though they are on the same side, there is sometimes competition between individuals, and victory often goes to the one who possesses more information from the enemy.

The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

-"When starting each battle outside of Organization, we usually let our intelligence forces blend into the crowd... {Information redacted}” - {***}, commander of the {} legion of Organization, said in an interview.-

Mice: Also known as spies or M.I.C.E - which is a mnemonic device used in counterintelligence training to remind trainees of the four general motivations that could lead someone to commit treason. Similar to intelligence, this is also a group of people specialized in gathering information within the enemy’s ranks. But unlike intelligence, this group directly joins the enemy’s ranks, thereby sabotaging or directly collecting information from within, rather than from outside like intelligence. Additionally, these units work in unison and share information sources with each other, thereby providing consistent information to send back to headquarters.

-"I refuse to answer this question" - Ash, a member of Nation {******}, said.-

Mobile Weapons: Unlike in the 20xx years, mobile weapons are not as favored at this time. Under the development of high technology and supernatural magic in all blocs, mobile weapons are nearly inactive as soon as they step onto the battlefield. For that reason, the human factor is highly valued in the tactical strategies of nations.

-"Who wouldn’t want to bring tanks and armor onto the battlefield? It would be much easier, but that was in the past. Now, bringing them is like climbing into a mobile coffin." - Hawl, a soldier, said.-

Light Long-Range Weapons: Similar to the 20xx years, long-range weapons like guns are still used. However, due to the development of protective armors for soldiers, long-range weapons lose their current lethality, so they are usually only used to support advances.

Medium Long-Range Weapons: Similar to light long-range weapons, medium long-range weapons like artillery are still used. However, their main purpose is still to weaken the defensive shields at strongholds. Or to intercept enemy forces unexpectedly, to cause significant losses. And like light long-range weapons, under the development of military armors, the firepower of medium long-range weapons is not sufficient to completely take down soldiers.

-"They tried very hard to create a concentrated energy beam on the tip of the bullet, but the recoil was too great, leading to the 'shield' becoming stronger too. And if they reduce the recoil? Well, you don’t want to see a gun jamming right at the barrel." - Howard, a weapons dealer for an unnamed bloc, said.-

Heavy Long-Range Weapons: Similar to mobile weapons, long-range weapons are completely useless on the battlefield, even if fired from over a thousand miles away.

-"They tried very hard, but it’s impossible. Like the Challenger spacecraft, no one wants to invest in a weapon that will explode as soon as it enters the airspace, or worse, as soon as it’s fired" - Evan, a military historian on armed forces, said.-

Combat Armor: The basic equipment for all soldiers. After many decades of development, combat armor today is fully capable, or even more than capable, of protecting soldiers’ lives from long-range firepower. When exposed to the shockwaves from those types of weapons, energy fields are activated, creating a large resistance along with a counterforce, completely neutralizing the shockwaves from those weapons. Additionally, thanks to advances in material development, combat armors are very light but sufficient to protect the soldiers’ lives.

-"In principle, they are very durable, and reality has proven that" - Gira, a researcher in military weapon development, said after firing an entire magazine at a dummy wearing armor.-

Close-Range Weapons: Contrary to the 20xx years, close-range weapons are highly favored. Due to their ease of upgrading and enhancement, as well as their ability to be easily combined with high technology or magic, close-range weapons have become the trump card in battles, as their destructive power is sufficient to break through the sturdy armors of enemies on the other side of the front line with shockwaves only a tenth of those from long-range weapons.

-"I’ll explain it this way for you to understand easily: when the sword blade touches the energy field, it will be blocked, but the energy field on the sword itself helps them cancel each other out, thereby penetrating through. Indeed, we have to thank the limited power of ourselves. And besides, under the pressure of the energy field, they easily pierce through that light armor" - Edward, department head and high-tech researcher and developer, said.-
