Chapter 7: Carne and The Quest, part one (20)

Chapter 7: Carne and The Quest

As they and the carriage rambled along the road, Calvaria looked to the sky, her eyes watching the clouds as her spells that she had used watched the areas around her. It was rather nice, to see the world pass by.

As she looked around the sky, she heard a voice in front of her cough. It was a fake cough of course, yet it drew her attention. It was Peter, the man was walking along the carriage looking to the right as he walked.

“Calvaria, I was wondering, what do you look like?” he asked, and the question surprised her.

Had she not shown them her face? She looked down at her feet as she recalled the meeting they had had. She remembered talking about business with the other party. Yet, she didn’t remember removing her helm. She looked back up at him.

She looked like he wanted an answer, yet he had a slightly concerned smile on his face. She didn’t know how to answer. She did not know how she wanted to look, after all. Should she disguise herself as a human Momonga? Or should she go with something more different.

She pnned to introduce Momonga to this pce as a separate entity. So, she couldn’t use that face at all. She also wasn’t that comfortable at trying to make herself look reted to Nabe, after all, she had told them that she was her aunt.

Actually wait, she hadn’t told them that. Even the NPCs didn’t consider themselves family at this point in time. While she herself. This was a slight setback. Maybe not for long though.

“I look somewhat like Nabe, as I am her aunt,” she said, removing her helm, “Though she inherited most of her looks from her father, my brother.”

Peter looked at her, shocked out of his own mind and thoughts. The woman sitting down in front of him, or rather to the side, was utterly gorgeous. Her hair was raven bck, same as Nabe’s. She also had heterochromia, one eye was blue, the other was bcker than pitch.

Her hair was shoulder length, tied into a braid and wrapped around her head to keep it out of the way. If he was Lukrut, he would be pining after her and not Nabe. Yet, there was also an age to her face, stress lines that looked less new, and older.

Her face was most definitely rounder than that of Nabe’s. Yet, he could see the resembnce. It was there, just hidden under the more exotic traits. That much he was sure of.

It was as if her ugh lines, her face dimples, and her overall beauty was being pulled down by some stress that she had that he couldn’t seem to fathom. He looked over her face as she gave him a comely smile. Her face was pulling him in as much as it was after he noticed the stress though.

“You look stressed,” he spoke his mind as she put back on her helm, “May I ask what that stress came from?” he asked.

She put the tch on her helm back on and looked at him with a measured voice, yet there was a casual tilt to it that it seemed like she was pulling a joke. That couldn’t be it, right?

“I am the Matriarch of my family, that includes most of the politics that no one enjoys,” she said with a slightly tired voice, so light was the emotion that Peter thought he had imagined it, and then quickly forgot it was there altogether.

They then heard Another voice pull over the white noise of the cpping of hooves and the rattling of the carriage. It was Lukrut, and he was worried. It was then that Nfirea, Anna, and Calvaria noticed that there was a fence around the vilge.

Lukrut seemed rather worried about something, and that thing was the goblins that Calvaria had managed to spot with her, “Life essence,” spell. Sure, it was only really made to be able to make out someone’s health points, but it also worked as a way to tell if there was a person in an area.

“I can tell that something is hiding out here, in the grass!” he shouted out as he drew his bow.

They were just getting to the front gates of the shoddily built fence, when goblins popped out of the grass. After all, it was tall enough to hide them. Calvaria and her group weren’t surprised though, Anna simply gripped the handle of her hand axe, and Calvaria put the palms of her hands on the pummels of her swords.

“Hey!” the lead goblin spoke, he seemed the highest leveled, “I don’t want any funny movements. Especially that big woman in the back,” he said, pointing his bow at Calvaria herself.

He seemed to find her the most troublesome opponent here, which was fair. After all, she was the holder of the, “World disaster,” title.

“We all wait here till the boss gets here. So, we can all stay here and stay all peaceful like, right?” he ordered more than asked.

The Swords of Darkness looked at each other, gauging their own party’s opinions on what they were going to do, while Anna and Nabe simply gnced at Calvaria, who had slid her hands off of her swords’ pummels.

“Wait!” Nfirea yelled getting the goblin’s attention, but not his gaze, “did something happen to this vilge, why are you here? if you don’t mind me asking,” he asked, and the goblin flicked his gaze to him and spoke.

“The Vilge was attacked before we were summoned by the boss. Since then, we have kept up watch here, and you can’t get past us till the boss says so,” he expined, and Nfirea drooped a little.

After everyone, well mostly everyone one as the goblin was still peering at Calvaria with slight fear, footsteps were soon heard. These footfalls belonged to a person that the potion maker seemingly knew quite well.

The young man’s eyes widened in surprise as he got up from his seat and he stepped off the carriage. This all amounted to him falling and stumbling. He caught himself, yet not before a slight flush of embarrassment colored his face.

“Nfirea!” Enri Emmot spoke, an excited smile gracing her young face, “I didn’t know you were coming today! If I knew, I would have told the goblins!” she excimed.

Nfirea couldn’t help but blush slightly at the attention of the girl he obviously liked. Now that Calvaria saw it, the young woman also seemed slightly flushed when talking to the young pharmacist.

It was then that Enri Emmot noticed that there were other people around the Carriage of her childhood friend, and quickly introduced herself.

“I am Enri Emmot, current leader of these goblins that guard our home,” she stated with her hands on her hips, “I assume you all are here with Nfirea? Well the you can all come in the vilge,” she told them and they got a move on.
