In his youth, Eldin showed great affinity for controlling the elements. He easily commanded the base elements of creation: Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. Aside from this, most people could also shape one of the universal elements of Light or Dark to their will. Some could even wield both. Unlike his father who wielded the element of Light, Eldin’s affinity was for Dark. He didn’t know why. Children usually followed after their parents, but Elrin had assured him that while uncommon, it was not unheard-of for offspring to use a different universal element than their parents.
Fire, Water, Earth, and Air. These are the base elements. Meaning that they have an actual physical form that can be contained.
Light and Dark are Universal elements. They have no form and exist everywhere. They cannot be contained but can be condensed
Energy, the final element. It is unique in the fact that it is both a Base and Universal element. It is found everywhere but can also be contained
Most wizards could simultaneously control two or three elements allowing them to create a wide variety of effects. The spell on the scroll however, definitely required the use of four different elements. A feat only talented spellcasters were able to perform.
He scratched his head thinking about how he was going to manage a spell as difficult as the one before him. Eldin let out a big sigh as he stood up and looked out the window from his study. His medium-short brown almost black hair moving along with the wind that blew outside as he stuck his head out. He watched a few kids running around with a ball. He could tell they were enjoying what little light remained before the sun fully set.
His father had given him until sundown to decipher, learn, and cast the spell on the scroll. Additionally, he was forbidden to use the scroll to cast the spell. He understood what the scroll detailed, he just didn’t know how he was going to control 4 elements and have them work in tandem. “Argh! Why did he have to make this so difficult!” Eldin said in a frustrated tone as he went back to his desk to stare at the scroll more.

If he could cast the spell, then Eldin wouldn’t have to study anymore under his father. Something he took as a bittersweet reward. Bitter in the fact that his father would no longer go out of his way to teach him, but the promise of sweet freedom from unbearable hours of study and dictation sounded so wonderful!
Eldin was only 18 years old, but he was well on his way to becoming the youngest Elementalist in history. A title given only to wizards who could command four elements simultaneously. He wanted to gain that title more than anything else. He just wasn’t expecting how difficult the final test would be. Eldin left the desk again and fell to the floor. Catching himself with his hands he began performing push-ups trying to get the blood flowing in his body. His loose green tunic hung from his back as he began his exercise.
Being a successful wizard required years upon years of study and practice. With how much studying was required, it was very common for spellcasters to neglect training their body. Elrin had explained to Eldin at a very young age that this was a common pitfall for aspiring wizards. While it did take a lot of study and focus to manipulate the elements, one should never neglect daily training and strengthening.
In this world, Energy represented life itself. The reason any of the base elements were able to move or the reason why fire was able to burn. Was because it had energy. Therefore, the more energy one was able to store, the more they were able to do. The only way to command more energy was to make the body more receptive to energy. An individual that was physically fit consumed more energy to survive. As such, their affinity for gathering and storing energy became greater as their strength increased.
He began to review what he knew in his mind about current elemental theory. Although energy existed everywhere as a natural resource, it was not taken into consideration as a controllable element for the purposes of testing. Mostly because no one had been able to control it, as stated by the standards of the Runefal Magic Academy.
The Runefal Magic Academy is a prestigious school located in the capital city of the world, Runefal. They are responsible for creating guidelines and rules for elemental manipulation globally recognized by all races.
After performing 100 push-ups, Eldin got up and started doing air squats. He continued thinking about how he was going to cast this spell as he exercised.
The spell wanted him to create an implosion, sucking everything into a single area before exploding. He knew he needed to create a vacuum followed by an explosion with fire. That part was easy.
The difficult part was figuring out how to deliver the destructive spell into a singular area devastating everything around it. He theorized that he could store the explosion inside a rock that was hollow, though from what he read, it would require a boulder to hold the intended power. It was far too inefficient, not to mention incredibly difficult to move precisely.
He finished doing 100 air squats before returning to his chair and staring at the scroll. He knew how to perform the spell, but that was only with three elements, and he would need a lot of preparation in order to cast it accurately. This spell detailed that it could be done on a whim if needed. He just couldn’t figure out what the fourth element would be!
