Damien tapped a pencil on the desk as he stared up at the ceiling. It would seem he was staring into space, but reality was that he was looking directly into the system that was so firmly implanted into his head. Thankfully, it didn’t change anything about his appearance, no third eye scenario.
Slowly spinning in his chair, he had the quest board open; they were basic things that seemed almost too easy.
It was the levels next to each quest that really stuck him tho. “Why are the levels so high for something so basic?”
He wished he had answers, but there was nothing that could help him. He hadn’t even bothered searching it up on the internet, he figured that would be a pointless endeavor. He contemplated trying to go to the library, looking in the faith section but he really didn’t feel like being caught in public right now.
“Maybe, I can test the quest out?” That was really the only logical thing he could think of, at least that's what he personally had felt. There was a small tab next to the quest page, it said Daily. Damien had eyed it as well, pretty basic stuff.
‘Is this a self help or a video game?’
Damien pushed himself up and sniffed his hoody, it smelt worn and like BO. He had been wearing it for a few days, this was the third day to be exact and it was about noon. He decided he should at least do the daily quests, they seemed pretty simple.
Changing his clothes, brushing his teeth, showering, he felt good. It was definitely a moral boost even if his moral stat didn’t budge. He ate a spam sandwich and drank some water from the faucet, they didn’t have much in the terms of food or drinks to really have anything else. He wasn’t picky though, spam and bread were pretty cheap.
Going back into his bedroom he kicked some clothes out of his way and sat back on his chair spinning in it. ‘This place is a pig sty, maybe the first quest should be to clean?’ Damien's head turned looking past the interface at all the clothing that scattered across the floor. His eyes refocused on the quest. .
Damien focused on it for a few seconds, then he activated it.
The tale has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
Damien selected his answer. ‘It's just cleaning.’
Damien watched as the entire world glistened and shimmered for a brief second. It almost felt like something came around him. His windows became fogged out with a white mist, slowly a health and mana bar appeared in the top left of his vision and a mini map appeared at the bottom right.
“Oh, so this is a game game.” Damien said out loud to the system. The mini map showed his house, currently he was in his bedroom, across from his bedroom was the bathroom, and to the right was his moms room. To the left led into the living room that had a small archway leading to the kitchen. It wasn’t super big, or complicated meaning this shouldn’t be too hard to clean.
He sat his hands on his waists and kind of examined his surroundings, then the mini map beeped at him. His eyes focused on it to see a red dot beeping outside his bedroom door. ‘Doesn't that mean there's an enemy outside?’
Thinking for a second he glanced around grabbing an old baseball bat that was a little worn down.
‘+2 Isn’t bad, better than whatever my normal hit rate would be.’
Damien stood at the front of his door and took a few breathers. Outside was the start of something that he wasn’t even sure he was prepared for. He also didn’t like the fact there was something red on his mini map in his hallway, wasn’t this just a cleaning quest?
Damien took a long deep breath, and stepped outside. To his surprise, it was empty. His hallway, the bathroom door in front of him, but there was no enemy, just some dust on the ground.
Glancing around and holding the bat tightly he started to let his body loosen up. Looking at the dust he smirked, almost laughing at himself. “It's showing me where to clean, I gotcha-” He was cut off though.
Leaping out of the dust was a small orb of fuzz and lent, that had large ears, lanky fingers with razors on the tips, and a grin from ear to ear with viciously sharp teeth. The claws swiped at Damien, and he had nothing he could do but to watch as the claw sliced through his shirt and left marks across his stomach as he screamed in pain stumbling backwards.
Damien stared at the health bar dropping fast. He felt two emotions, fear and awe. The Dust ball ran backwards then pushing its fat feet off the ground leapt towards him again. What would happen if Damien died? A thought that flooded his mind as he flinched and POP!
Damien smacked the creature with the bat sending it slamming into the wall across the hall from him.
Damien breathed heavily, he couldn’t believe it, had he really done that much damage? Looking at the bat he noticed, it was dented from the dust bunny. Gritting his teeth he looked back at the creature. Why let it get back up? That was the first thing Damien thought, pushing off the ground he slid the bat across the ground and swiped up.
The bat slammed into the creature causing it to fire up into the ceiling and slam back down into the ground. The creature's eyes widen as it lets out a screech.
Damien felt his body heal, his shirt still torn, but he rubbed his stomach and let out a relief sigh. He won and he couldn’t believe it.
Looking at the Mini map he saw red marks start popping up in all the rooms around him. Damien was far from over.
