02: For My Own Reasons

Robinn stepped out of the warehouse, letting the sun settle on her skin again. The air outside felt warmer than inside. She blinked once as the wind tugged at her uniform jacket.

The rest of the class stood gathered near the edge of the street, eyes already on her. She could feel it, even if she didn’t exactly look at them. A sort of collective pause hung in the air.

Then Kirishima and Sero stepped out behind her.

“She got the dummy before we even saw a robot,” Sero muttered under his breath. “I think that might be a record or something.” Kirishima rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah... she made us look kinda... uh, extra.”

Aizawa didn’t let the moment stretch long. He spoke flatly, but his tone carried weight. “Good work. Reibach, excellent use of mobility and planning. You didn’t just run ahead, your teammates had a clear path thanks to you. That’s how real heroes operate. If you can reach the victim safely and clear a path for your backup, you should.”

A small murmur moved through the group, but Aizawa continued.

“As for you two...” his gaze shifted to Sero and Kirishima “you didn’t do anything wrong. A little slow to respond, but that’s understandable given the circumstances. You followed and supported the strategy once you understood it. That’s teamwork. Don’t hesitate next time.”

Both of them nodded quickly, though Kirishima still looked a little sheepish.

  Robinn didn’t say anything.

She stood with her hands behind her back, the hint of a smile on her face. It wasn’t smug. It wasn’t dismissive. Just... calm. Like she knew what she’d done was right, and that was enough.

From the corner of her eye, she noticed movement.

  Sort of.

It was hard to tell exactly where Hagakure was looking, but given the way her gloves and boots angled, Robinn had a pretty good guess.

The invisible girl shuffled forward with oddly heavy steps, then came to a stop in front of her.

“Hey!” Hagakure’s voice rang out, friendly but a little flustered. “Sooo uh... about your quirk?”

Robinn tilted her head, eyes narrowing just slightly in curiosity.

Hagakure jabbed a gloved thumb at herself. “Not to sound all territorial or anything, buuut invisibility’s kind of my thing, y’know?”

The smile on Robinn’s face didn’t falter.

She didn’t reply right away. Instead, she let the moment stretch, gaze fixed on Hagakure’s invisible body, but her thoughts flickered elsewhere.

Yeah, of course they’d assume that, she mused. They haven’t seen the rest of it.

Finally, she offered a small shrug, her voice even and polite.

“Sorry if it felt like I was stepping on your thing. But my quirk’s not invisibility. That was just...one part of it.”

That sentence hit like a dropped pin in a silent room.

The class leaned in, subtle and not-so-subtle shifts all around. Kaminari’s eyebrows went up. Midoriya’s eyes were already darting between Robinn and his notebook. Even Bakugo’s scowl twitched with the faintest curiosity.

Hagakure leaned forward slightly. “Wait... so what was that then?”

Robinn didn’t answer right away. She just kept smiling, hands still tucked calmly behind her back.

“...It’s complicated to explain,” she said at last, voice cool but not dismissive.

“I’d prefer to just show everyone... If I’m allowed?” She turned to face Aizawa. He gave a slow nod, barely blinking. “Go ahead.”

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Robinn smiled, and then she began to fade. In about three seconds, her form softened, blurred... and vanished entirely, leaving only her shoes. A collective gasp rippled through the class.

“Wha... she is invisible!” Kaminari blurted, whipping his head around.

“No, no,” Midoriya muttered, already halfway to a theory spiral. “It’s not the same. It’s not refraction or light bending like Hagakure it’s something else entirely”

“Yeah,” Robinn’s voice echoed through the space, calm and amused. She was still invisible.

“I can go invisible... sort of. But I’m not just doing that. Right now I’m actually completely made out of air.”

“HUH?!” Sero exclaimed, looking around wildly.

“I... I feel kinda called out!” Hagakure said, flailing her gloves. “She’s actually air?! That’s not fair!”

Then, Robinn shimmered back into view, but not as herself.

She reappeared in the exact same stance, the same expression on her face... only now her skin, her clothes, her hair, everything looked like smooth, solid rock. No cracks, no jagged edges. Just Robinn, but carved from polished stone.

“Now I’m rock,” she said cheerfully, pacing a few steps like it was the most natural thing in the world. Her lips moving like normal and her voice echoed with the same clarity, somehow unaffected.

“Okay, what?” Jiro said flatly, staring. “How’re you talking?” Ojiro asked, mouth slightly open. “Is that still you? Or like a shell?” Mina added, scratching her head.

Before anyone could puzzle it out further, Robinn’s form rippled again.

The rock softened, liquefied, and flowed seamlessly into a new texture, her figure now shimmering and translucent. Water.

Robinn was walking, speaking, standing, and yet her entire body was made of liquid. Still shaped exactly like her, down to the details in her hair and the folds in her uniform.

“You get it now?” she said, turning back to the class, her hands proudly on her hips, still very much liquid.

The silence this time wasn’t from confusion. It was awe. “Okay,” Mina said, hands on her head. “That’s actually so cool.”

“This is so unfair,” Hagakure muttered, pouting dramatically. “I can’t even blink at her right now.”

“You’re like... like Element Girl!” Kaminari said excitedly. “Or wait... Element Everything Girl! No, that’s dumb, forget I said that.”

“I need to take so many notes,” Midoriya whispered, trembling.

Kirishima just laughed, rubbing the back of his head. “Man, you really went all in. You could’ve told us earlier, y’know?”

Robinn’s watery form tilted her head at him, still grinning.

  “Where’s the fun in that?”

After a bit Robinn finally piped up, still in her water form but beginning to shift back into her normal self as she spoke, reaching down to put on her shoes.

“My quirk is Transform," Robinn said, now fully back to her usual appearance, skin, clothes, and all. “I can change any part of my body into any material. Doesn’t matter if it’s solid, liquid, or gas. The transformed part keeps its shape and moves like normal.”

She gave a sheepish smile, rubbing the back of her neck.“Though... don’t ask me the physics behind it.”

There was a beat of stunned silence.

“...What?” Kaminari said, eyes bugging out. ”What?!"

“Wait, so, any material?” Jiro asked, blinking.

“Like any-any?" Sero leaned in, mouth slightly agape.

“I mean, I haven’t tried lava or uranium or anything,” Robinn replied lightly, “but yeah. Stone, metal, air, water... those are my go-to’s right now.”

“I... she said gas," Hagakure muttered, flopping into a squat. “I was freaking out over invisibility and she’s out here turning into the air."

Midoriya silently crossed out half a page of notes in his notebook, muttering to himself, “States-of-matter based? that was wrong... material mimicry... molecular consistency, no, no, no..."

“Can you do multiple materials at once?” Tokoyami asked, his tone low but sharp.

“I can mix them,” Robinn nodded. “Like one arm stone, the other water. That kind of thing. Though more than two at once gets... tricky.”

“Do you have limits?” Ojiro asked, thoughtful. “Mass, duration, control?”

“Yeah, a few actually,” Robinn said. “They vary by material. My quirk burns through stamina fast, the more complex the material, the faster it drains me. So I try to stick to simpler stuff when I can.”

A few heads nodded, some of the more analytical students leaning in now.

“Mass isn’t a problem on its own,” she continued, “but it does affect things. Like I’m way heavier as stone. And even though I can move normally, the weight doesn’t go away.”

She held up a finger as another thought struck.“Also, it takes a ton of concentration. I don’t feel pain when transformed, which sounds good until it isn’t. If I’m not paying attention, I won’t know I’ve overstrained something or if a limb’s out of position.”

Now some of the class winced. Mineta let out a quiet “yikes.”

“Oh... and,” Robinn added, raising her brows, “when I’m fully air? I can’t see. Or hear. Or feel. Or smell. Or taste.”

  Everyone stared.

“You’re just... floating blind?” Mina asked, recoiling a little.

“Yup,” Robinn said with a chipper shrug. “No senses. Just flying on memory and momentum.

“I thought it was a stealth-type quirk at first. But that’s just... nuts.” Uraraka said, wide-eyed

“This is way more than a states-of-matter quirk,” Iida declared, adjusting his glasses with newfound respect. “It’s an adaptive transformation ability with a staggering degree of control!”

Robinn just smiled again, hands on her hips, looking proud. Not gloating. Just... proud.

She was happy to be making such an impression.. and honestly? She did love talking about her quirk.

(Off-screen, Present Mic:)“ROBIIINN REIBAACH! QUIRK: TRANSFORM! She can change any part of her body into any material she can manage! Solid, liquid, or gas! The transformed part keeps its shape and moves like normal. Wild, right?! She can even do multiple materials at once, though more than two gets tricky. Still, with that kind of range, she’s got options!”
