Upper Waste Tunnels 1.6

It was a couple hours after Skitter Nail and Skar woke up from their short rest that they finally found what they were looking for, in front of the odd pair was a large stone door that was decorated with bones and feathers while torches of fire lined the walkway up to the door. This was the boss room’s entrance for the second floor and the reason they are here is to get to the next floor, with the creeping mud slime on this floor it makes it harder to actually hunt for levels so they rather risk going down a floor and fight monsters a level higher than them than crossing paths with the slime. That is why even though it will be all tough fights out from here they believe in the fact that they mostly cover each other's weakness and if they don’t then there is always a chance that can convince another mob to join them.

Now that he had more intelligence Skitter Nail noticed that the boss room’s door probable was hinting at what kind of monster would be the boss of the floor, he had no idea what it would be like maybe a rat since they sometimes like to collect bones but why than are the feathers and let’s not even talk about the torches. The only way to know what is behind the door was to go through it and see it for themselves, he tried to use the towering creatures to see what was inside but once they entered the door closed right behind them. Skar was really starting to get bored and he also really wanted to see what the boss was so they didn’t wait for another group they just wanted to begin the boss fight and so they walked through the stone door that opened itself and entered the obvious arena.

The arena was a bowl shaped pit with a mix of sand and gravel as the ground and it was surrounded by wooden structures that housed sets for the dozen or so spectators, the spectators were these weirdly ugly green short creatures that barked and chanted randomly with a fervent faith. What the green creatures were looking at was one of their kind that was standing in the arena, it was taller and looked stronger than the others and it seemed to be wearing more clothes than them too. This seemed to be the boss of this floor which was weird since most of the time the bosses are monsters from the same floor but they haven’t seen any monster like this, maybe it’s a monster that is too strong for this floor but is weak enough to be the second floor boss.

  [Gubkal the Goblin Warrior]

  [Floor II Boss]

The now known goblin warrior beat his chest with the arm that had a shield while raising his other arm that held a rusted spear, the monstrous spectating crowd roar with animalistic vigor towards their supposed champion. Skitter and Skar just watched this idiotic display of power and fame that was most definitely false, it didn’t take long for Skar to decide that she wasn’t going to continue to watch this very boring hype up and use [Dash] to begin the fight. But just before the devastating bite was going to hit the goblin swiftly dodged out of the way and was also able to stab its spear into her three times in a row before she caught up to what was happening.

Skitter Nail was not sitting idly while his teammate was being stabbed, no he was sneaking up behind the boss and shooting a mana bolt at the back of its head. The goblin somehow knew about the attack and dodge and then turned around but that was what Skitter wanted him to do since an ember was already flying towards its head and even though the boss did dodge out of the way again the ember still was able to somewhat blind the goblin. It was at this critical moment when the boss was both distracted and blinded that his lizard ally came ramming in with her head high and slammed it into the goblins left leg while noticeable having [Heavy Strike] active by the mossy green glow around her head.

With a sickening crack the leg bent in a way it was not meant to, the goblin screamed out in pain as he toppled to the floor beginning to cry due to the pain. Both him and Skar tried to take advantage of weakened boss on the floor but from the crowd five goblin jumped down to protect the boss while the rest grabbed bows, javelins, and slings. The pair grouped back up to make sure they don’t get picked off one by one by the out numbering goblins that although aren’t as strong as the boss they can work together well, Skitter Nail was shooting at the ranged enemies and also protecting Skar’s flanks while she protected him from the melee goblins.

While the fight with the boss was shorter it was much harder as these bunch of goblins did not even stand a chance since they were all probably level one and did not seem to usefully use their skills or their stats. The only problem was that only one of them can deal with the ranged enemies and Skitter Nail didn’t want to use to much mana when they still hadn’t killed the boss, which is dumb the boss couldn’t even stand it was barely a threat but most of the time with bosses it isn’t always that simple. But it doesn’t matter, the weak goblins were defeated easily without either of them even getting slightly injured, now it was just time to kill the goblin boss but before they even got to him the goblin started to scream in rage at the death of its minions.

  [Gubkal the Savage Revenger]

The goblin stood up on its quickly healing leg as he grew a foot taller and his green skin became a pale lime green while black veins spiderwebbed from his heart, a wrathful flame of ambition was ignited in his eyes as he glared down at the odd duo that had caused this feeling to blossom from the depths of his heart. Gubkal threw his shield away and grabbed onto his spear with both hands, tears evaporated seconds after coming out of his eyes the anger he was feeling was so strong that it was affecting the ambient mana making it so those who could see mana look like he was in the middle of a fiery storm. The boss raised his spear in one and got ready to throw it like a javelin, energy burned through the spear making the hidden runes on it to glow red and the rusted spearhead shed off the rust making it look as good as new.

One moment the spear was in the boss’s hand and the next there was a red blur that landed between the two of them blasting both the ground and them away, in the center of the crater molten glass rapidly cooled around the spear as it was embedded in the dungeon stone underneath. The goblin boss open his hand and the spear in the ground started to shake before launching out of the ground and landed back in his hand, as more of the black veins spread from his heart his skin became paler but did not matter as he shifted his focus to the rat that was skittering around scare shitless at the display of power. Skitter Nail did not in all of his intelligence know what to do when facing such overwhelming power, he barely even noticed that the boss seemed to be slowly drained of its hp since the dust from the blast hid most of the arena from his eyes and only thing he could see was the glow and gleam of the spear the was in the boss’s hand.

When the dust settled and Skitter Nail was able to see what was going on he felt endless fear for two reasons, one was the fact that the boss was looking at him and the second was that Skar was sneaking up behind the boss without a hint of fear. His fear quickly left him since he knew if he didn’t do something they both will very well die before the boss does, with the three mana he had left he rapidly fired out embers to blind the boss and he succeeded in his endeavor as the boss raised an arm to cover its eyes from the light not even caring of the burning heat that hit it. This is when Skar acted as she blasted towards the boss with [Dash] using the momentum and the strength of [Heavy Strike] clamp down on the boss’s waist tearing it straight off.

Bleeding out on the floor Gubkal used his spear to raise himself off the floor so he could glare at the two monsters that had killed him, Skitter Nail stared down at the dying boss with pride while Skar gluttonously consumed his lower half. The boss tried to power an attack but couldn’t as his life continued to fade from him, the last thing he saw was a rat and a lizard laughing at him but at last he could join his minions in the afterlife. The both of them stopped laughing after they saw that the boss had finally died, they then began to celebrate in their own ways and after about half an hour of celebration.

  [Ember Lv 1] Level Up!

  [Dash Lv 1] Level Up!

[Heavy Strike Lv 1] Level Up!

Sadly neither of them level up from the fight but they did get some levels on some of their skills and Skar felt like she was close to a class level so it is not like they didn’t get nothing from the fight, and they can go to the next floor too! Taking a short break in the boss room will be fine since it seems the door won’t open again until they leave the room, and that is what they both did for a couple hours. But both of them are monsters for exploration and it wasn’t long that they were both ready to go to the next floor and see what it would be like.

So they began their walk down the stairs wondering what would be different about this floor other than the increase in monster levels, what they saw when they got to the bottom of the stairs was something that was both family and unique. The first big difference to the 3rd floor was that it was bigger, like really big, 10 of those towering creatures could walk side by side and they still could fit nicely in the tunnel in front of them. The second difference was that it was clean or well cleaner than the last floor, there was still trash but it was so little that Skar was as tall as the tallest piles it was so weird for the duo.

It was also obvious to see that there were some new monsters on this floor that there wasn’t on the last one, it seemed Skitter Nail was correct about the goblins since they could see roaming gangs of them of similar size to the goblin boss’s group. The other new monster was this large brown bug that seemed to spew out fire from their mouths, they roamed the tunnels by themselves and regularly got in firefights with other monsters. The other thing the two of them noticed was the absolute lack of rats on this floor, this made Skitter Nail happy that he didn’t need to see anymore of his kind but before he could start to celebrate again the both heard sounds coming from the boss room behind them and they decided that they need to start getting a move on before something thinks they are an easy snack.

our monster heroes need a new friend what will they be? each vote for a new character will be different.
