2.2.e - Cowardice

Dolus steps out of the building he was hiding in and takes a moment to admire his work. The golem he spent the last few months working on performed incredibly well, neither of his two companions having noticed that they were not travelling with a human. Although, that matters no more. Melissa died in the fight, and Victor fulfilled his purpose, having sacrificed his body to give someone more important an advantage.

The blond, who was reaching out to inspect Victor, had his extended arm blown off. He was thrown against another building, denting the stone slightly, and is shakily trying to get up. Dolus chuckles to himself as the boy falls to his knees, taking heavy breaths.

The bowman is unfortunately much better off. He was lucky enough to not collide with anything, merely sliding to a stop and not even losing any limbs, although he still suffered large wounds all over his front side. He stands straight despite this, his eyes locked on Dolus, who smiles back.

The brute, irritatingly enough, seems to have somehow purged the gas from his system. The shock of the explosion was enough to awaken him without causing noticeable damage, so he has climbed back to his feet and is walking to the other battle-capable man.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Finally, Dolus regards his sister. Her wound is still far from recovered- he chose firebombs intentionally to make the wound harder to heal- but she appears to be in a relatively stable condition. All he has to do is extract her, but that is easier said than done. The warrior breaks the silence.

“What're you gonna do now? It's a two versus one, and you clearly aren't equipped for another battle.”

Dolus winces at the observation but bites back.

“Both of you are injured while I'm in perfect condition. You assume I have no more contingencies, which is a laughable mistake.”

He spreads his arms to show his confidence, hoping they may be fooled by his bluff.

The shorter man seems to fall for it, glancing around himself, but the other pays his words no mind, approaching Dolus.

“Vis, don't be so hasty,” the moronic one calls out, but it is of no avail. Dolus backs away, trying to circle round to the downed boy, but the one who stayed back moves to ensure his safety. Dolus’ position gets worse as more time passes, and he finally speaks.

“Fine. I'll let you go this time. But know that you will never be safe; I have contact with someone on your side, who will inform me of your movements so I can obliterate you next time.”

With that said, he turns and runs away, heading past more houses and down the mountain.
